Acme is located in the Seascape Shopping Center right on highway 98 in Miramar Beach. There is a large parking lot which makes it convenient.
The ambiance at Acme is informal and pleasant. The portions are quite large. The service has always been excellent.
I do like chargrilled oysters. They have been cooked perfectly at Acme when I have ordered them here. They are served hot and accompanied with bread. A dozen of these oysters will fill up most people, especially if accompanied with a salad.
My biggest complaint is that they are too salty to enjoy the dish. The butter flavor is good but the salt taste is overwhelming. Perhaps it is part of the Creole recipes as several of the dishes are also very salty and taste less like seafood than the salt taste.
For those who do not like the strong flavor, it is possible to order the oysters without the seasoning and butter. According to our server, the season is not prepared for individual orders, which makes sense, so whatever is in the seasoning is already there. No doubt, eliminating the seasoning is not what the restaurant intends; it is all a matter of personal preference.
Most of the dishes are excellent and well prepared and not overcooked.
By the way, this restaurant is very popular. On two of our last three visits (during Spring Break when tourism is heavy in the Destin area), there was a wait of about 30 minutes to be seated. In part, that is due to the social distancing still practiced by the restaurant. In part, it is due to the restaurant's popularity. Obviously their food and the ambiance is very popular and appreciated by those...
Read moreFirst off—Dillion was our server, and he was amazing!
I ordered the Fish Plate with potato salad, sweet potato fries, and a side of soft shell crab. My husband had the Market Fish Plate with hush puppies and chicken and andouille sausage gumbo. Both of our platters were fried hard.
My meal: Everything was delicious! The potato salad stood out in the best way. At home, I’m used to a sweet pickle-style potato salad, which I love, but this version had a dill pickle flavor that paired perfectly with the mustard and mayo. The seasoning and consistency of the potatoes were just right—truly spectacular!
The fish came with three catfish fillets, which were crispy and tasty. While they could’ve been a bit crispier, the tartar sauce more than made up for it—it was really good. The sweet potato fries were also excellent. The only miss for me was the soft shell crab—it was extremely salty, so I ended up sending it back.
My husband’s meal: He was a bit disappointed by the Market Fish Plate. For $25, it only included one fillet, which didn’t feel like a full meal. However, he enjoyed the gumbo and absolutely loved the hush puppies. He eventually swapped the Market Fish for the Catfish Plate (with three fillets), and that was a hit—super flavorful and satisfying.
Overall: We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. The food (with the exception of the soft shell crab) was fantastic, the portions were generous—especially the catfish—and the service was excellent....
Read moreWe went here as a family there was 6 of us. We got 3 appetizers to share the gator bites(a little chewy), the fried crab claws(super tiny) but good, and the chargrilled oysters absolutely delicious highly recommend (mkt price for a dozen $31). The kids got a cheese burger(it was supposed to come with pickles it didn’t and we got charged .25 for them when we asked for them.) the tenders my daughter said was delicious. The adults got the capt platter and each couple shared one because it was so much food. And it was delicious($51.95). We also go the espresso martini (delicious) and a mixed drink that was fruity and delicious. We got side salads that are $4 apiece but beware when asked if you want bacon bits, croutons, cheese, onion, and mushrooms because we got charged $2 for everything except croutons and those where $1. Beware that they add on a gratuity for parties of 6 or more. So when the waitress gave herself a 20% tip ($36) and got mad at us (her kindness went out the window)when we didn’t give her an additional tip it was a bit uncalled for. No wait to be seated, food was good but being charged for every little extra thing was a bit much. They have awesome shark head cups for the kids but again $17 dollars. We got them not realizing how expensive they were but the kids loved them. Just making everyone else aware. They do give a...
