Yesterday, I decided to revisit the Mezcal restaurant in Miramar Beach, Florida. I had been there before, ordering quesadillas, two different times because they were so good. Because I decided to try something new, I went to their website. I couldn't believe how detailed that website is! I looked at other restaurant websites on the internet to compare them to Mezcal's website and there is no comparison! Mezcal's website not only has the usual Tex Mex items on it, but it has many upscale menu items for Monday through Friday, a “Lunch Specials” menu, a “Happy Hour” menu, and even a “Family Meals” menu PLUS a separate “Brunch” menu that they offer for Saturdays and Sundays. Oh yes, and they offer FREE LIVE outdoor music on Thursday and weekends too. There is SO much more on that website....including a “patio cam”. (I couldn't believe that one!). I invite you to see it all for yourself . I need to get to “the rest of the story”, so to speak.
I didn't see “customer photos”, but if you scroll down to the bottom of the menu tab, where they encourage us to follow them on Facebook or Instagram, you will see their photos of many of their wonderful meal offerings.
Cleanliness? The Mezcal restaurant is immaculate. Sparkling clean! Tables are nicely spaced so you don't feel claustrophobic, and so you can walk between them without bumping into a patron at a nearby table. They have silverware, not plastic ones, and cloth napkins, a rarity!
My server, Camila, brought me chips and salsa immediately, as they do in other Mexican restaurants, but their delicious salsa is homemade! This time I ordered a “Burrito Bowl” with pulled pork as the meat in the dish, and iced tea. It was not only delicious, but it was much more than I could eat in one sitting! (I ate the other half of that meal for dinner last night!). Camila was very attentive to my needs all during the meal, checking on me several times to make sure all my needs were met!
Last but certainly not least, they offer 20% off all foods daily FOR LOCALS. Who else does that...advertising a large discount for locals on their website for all to see? None that I know of. Oh yeah...My bill for that delicious, LARGE meal and tea? $12.80. If I had a mic right now,...
Read moreSat at the bar with a friend tonight. I bought a quesadilla, which we split, and my friend a beer. Bartender tried to charge me for two beers, but after bringing it to his attention, he adjusted the bill. We chose to sit in the outdoor seating area to eat after paying the bill and tipping the bartender $10 on an $18 tab. 15 minutes later, the owner came out with the same bartender and tried to pin a bill on my friend n I that belonged to someone two seats down from us. He then threatened to call the cops, and told us never to come back again. I would highly recommend NOT going to this place so this doesn’t happen to you. The food is mediocre. The salsa tastes like they poured some canned enchilada sauce in it to maybe give their spin on it. The quesadilla was supposed to have chicken, but it did not. I had been once before about a year or so ago for an entree that was far from memorable except maybe to remember it wasn’t that great. Didn’t think they could mess up a quesadilla, but they did. The owner is pure trash. I’ve NEVER experienced anything like this in 36 years of living in this area. Roll the dice if you choose to dine here! You may get hunted down by this lunatic and extorted for a dine n...
Read moreThis place was a let down (as a Texan who is accustomed to flavorful tex mex).
First, we tried the blanco queso. The flavor was good, but my gosh it was watery. My husband and I literally had to pass it to each other, to catch the dripping queso each time we tried to dip our chips into it. $9 is too steep for basically watered down queso. Also, someone had mentioned in a review the salsa tasted like marinara sauce, definitely understood that comment once I tasted it.
Then - I thought it was weird that no cheese enchiladas were on the menu. Maybe I missed it? So I decided to do something different and order the chicken enchiladas. The verde type sauce they used was ok, a bit spicy, but the beans and rice had no flavor. Also, the rice wasn’t cooked completely. There were hard bits throughout the entire dish.
My husband enjoyed his beef enchiladas, so maybe if you’re going for more of a tex mex taste, those are the ones to get.
Overall, while the service was super quick, the food is not up to par with the cost. The items need more flavor and more of a variety on the menu.
