We can not be more pleased with the service and staff at this hotel. We stayed for 3 nights, I called ahead the day we were to check in and told them we would arrive sometime around 12am. They informed me check in is possible till 2am. When we arrived the rep told us our room that we originally reserved had been surrendered and we were put into a double queen room (versus the king we had planned for) we didn’t mind, room is actually bigger than the king bed. As a kind gesture the rep (John) gave us complimentary breakfast for our entire stay. He def did not have to do that and we were impressed with the service. They also acknowledged that I had called in ahead about late check in, I’m guessing because we didn’t pay for our stay until arrival the policy must be first come first serve. I work in the travel industry so I completely understand. Breakfast was a great selection, nothing to write home about, good enough that we ate bfast there all 3 mornings. Fresh fruit and selection of juices was a nice touch. Never short on food even when busy, staff are all hardworking and very well mannered. The hotel has a shuttle that runs back and forth to Mohegan sun about 1.5-2 miles away. It’s about a 25 min drive to foxwoods. 25 min drive to mystic aquarium. Room was clean, turn down was great, no complaints about the room location, we had an adjoining door in our room and on our 2nd and 3rd nights there was a lot of women laughing and chit chatting which got really loud and annoying at times. Luckily they went out and stayed out late so it didn’t interfere with sleep. It’s odd they only leave 1 tiny bottle of shampoo and conditioner even in a double queen room, certainly not enough, the staff were prompt to provide me with extra shampoo, no problem. I ended up buying some shampoo at the cvs next door anyways just in case. There is an indoor pool, I guess big enough for laps and a small terrace to lie out on. Pets are welcome which can be a great reason to stay here, I would highly recommend and would stay here again. Coffee and tea bar in the lobby (tazo teas, 2 decaf options available) also in the lobby, work station 2 computers with a printer. This was actually a life saver for us as I forgot to print out tickets for an event we were attending. We saw some people work out in the gym, on the smaller side. There is a hidden Starbucks across the street but it’s inside the stop and shop supermarket. Tons of free parking, tons of lot choices so you can park close to your room. I would say the top pro of this hotel was the low rate we were able to reserve. Certainly better rates than competitors. Two thumbs up. Kudos for excellent service...
Read moreThis is our third time staying here and the place has not missed a step, it's right up the block from the casino and you get 3x the room for 3x less the price.
Check-in:They had 3 staff members manning the desk when we got there, I think it took all of 2 minutes before we had our room keys, room was ready on time at 4, I will say this, they are pretty stringent about that 4pm check in time, be mindful of that when planning out your arrival time.
The hotel: Tucked away well off the highway, it's surrounded by trees and nature, the lot is large and clean, well lit with a sensible layout(you're never 20 steps from a door). The lobby is clean and modern with plenty of seating and nooks to relax in if you chose to eat in from the on site kitchen. There are 3 elevators that go to the guest rooms so you never have to wait long. Large indoor pool, workout room and conference rooms, all clean and modern.
The Room: Every room is oversized with both a sleeping area and a sitting area, this is the main reason I keep going back, I love to be able to relax on the couch and watch TV without having to sit on the end of the bed, it's a nice separation and makes the room feel so much more luxurious. Full size bathroom, fridge, dressers and a big screen tv. The room is modern and appointed nicely, and it was spotlessly clean. You can waive room service and they will just drop off fresh towels if you want.
The Staff: Everyone one we encountered as polite, professional and attentive, you can't ask for more then that.
The Location: central to EVERYTHING, all the attractions, outlets, casinos and mystic, plenty of local restaurants nearby and you have a CVS and Stop n' Stop right next door, Mohegan sun is right up the road and (Hyatt runs a free shuttle Thur- Sun every half hour all day.)
Criticism: There is no safe in the room(I hate not having a safe), ditch the super soft pillows, like sleeping on a marshmallow.
Something to take note of: They offer free breakfast but we skipped it after the first day, the area fills up fast and the stuff goes quick, and people get a little nutty over anything with the word "free" in it. The hotel was at full capacity when we were there and lets just say, tempers were flaring among the guests when we were there. My advice, get down there before 8 or be prepared to fight for the...
Read more40th Birthday Weekend - Should have stayed elsewhere
I celebrated my 40th birthday weekend at Hyatt Place Uncasville (Mohegan Sun) as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here when I turned 30, but man have times changed for the worse.
I don’t like to give 1 star ratings short of egregious issues (which explains my 2 star rating), but this Hyatt has become a rundown uncomfortable place where you’d be lucky to get a good night’s sleep.
The black out drapes were not black out - I had a terrible night’s sleep both nights we stayed here as I was awoken at 5:45am each morning like clockwork by the bright sun entering my room at the top of the “black out curtains”. At least the bed was comfortable, but that didn’t matter when the sunlight wakes you up at 6am every morning. Bring your nightshades to address this problem.
The walls are thin as we heard children yelling at the other end of the hallway both nights we stayed, and there was a barking dog across the hall from us. I love dogs but just know the walls are very thin here and there is no peace and quiet.
We also didn’t get housekeeping during our stay despite requesting it. After we returned to the hotel at 5pm and saw housekeeping had not come, I requested more towels to be brought to our room, but after an hour I went down to the front desk to get a fresh set of towels. They eventually brought towels to our room about an hour later, but that was after I had already gone down to the front desk.
The breakfast was good. Good scrambled eggs, juices, and the coffee was good. They need to get rid of those sad pieces of ham and splurge on some bacon or even sausages. CORRECTION - Saturday morning they had delicious sausage links! The breakfast is solid.
We didn’t even bother taking the weekend shuttle and drove to and from Mohegan Sun instead.
Overall I would never stay here again even if it was free. Hyatt is generally a terrific brand with great properties worldwide, but this isn’t one of them. If you’re traveling to Mohegan Sun and want to enjoy your visit, stay at a different hotel nearby or splurge on a room at Mohegan Sun — I wish I did and we would have enjoyed my 40th birthday...
