DISCLAIMER: THIS REVIEW IS NOT COMPENSATED FOR.
I can't speak to the hotel side here, but I definitely agree with the other reviewers in regards to the staff: everyone has been extremely helpful, friendly and very sensible people. Though I have not interacted much with Mike, he always looks cheerful and approachable. Katrina, our leasing agent, was always extremely responsive and professional with all of our questions during the application process, and went above and beyond to accommodate my partner and I during our move-in process from out of state (me) and from Greensboro (my partner): she allowed us to deliver some of our belongings to the reception area before the start of our lease which really helped us streamline our move-in and we are forever grateful for this. It having been my first time moving anywhere out of my home state and starting a job less than a week after moving in, a lot of things could've gone south, so to have her support on helping us figure out what documents we would need to prove we met the income requirement and being able to hit the ground running was nothing short of a lifesaver.
Aside from one incident with our freezer, we haven't had any issues to complain of during our stay here. The few times (in regard to the freezer) we've had to submit maintenance orders, the maintenance staff were quick to act and very detailed, leaving sticky notes on our fridge to let us know what they had fixed and suggestions for how to prevent them in the future. Maintenance comes in regularly (and warning emails are sent out prior to expect them) for pest control, for cleaning air vents and the cleaning staff are very good about cleaning the common areas (hallways, stairs, and elevators) though what another reviewer said about some tenants not being respectful and leaving trash in some common areas or not returning carts to their designated area is true. I do not think it fair to fault the staff for this, but I do hope to see more strict guidelines for some residents regarding usage of common space.
My partner and I signed a 12-month lease for a 1 bed 1 bath unit which is admittedly small for two people, but what it lacked in space it made up for with amenities in spades: firstly, ALL UTILITIES ARE INCLUDED IN RENT! I cannot understate how much of a GODSEND not having to worry about AC electricity bills throughout the humid, unforgiving summers is. Secondly, all the equipment here is top-of-the-line. While a lot of other apartments claim to have newly renovated furniture and equipment, Waterwalk provides a freezer unit with a built-in ice machine, a deep-walled sink with garbage disposal, generous granite countertop space (both in the kitchen and in the bathroom!) and a CONVECTION stove-top, the last of which is so easy to clean and made eating out harder to justify. Added to this, their showers, unlike many in the area, are walk-in showers rather than tub-shower combos, thus their drains are one-piece drains that don't get hair clogged in them and allow for easy hair cleanup. Thirdly, our bedroom window came equipped with grey blackout curtains which are extremely effective in blocking out sunlight for when we would (admittedly too often) sleep in. These last few features don't seem significant at face value- but you will definitely miss them if you're without them. Fourthly, we have had no hiccups (outages, speed issues) with our internet and for the cable TV junkies out there: they include DirectTV PREMIUM free! If all of this isn't enough: you also get access to a well-lit small walkway with a grill (for dog owners), 24/7 access to the lobby (and free coffee!), a regularly before-and-after-use cleaned fitness center, and all of your packages are held safe at the reception.
If I could move Waterwalk closer to my workplace and keep my current monthly rent rate I would absolutely renew. But: for those fortunate enough to afford their new rates and work in the area, you will NOT regret...
Read morewe live on the non hotel side or Building "B". My wife and I agree, been resident here for a while and will be for a while longer. We think that this location is one of the best kept housing secrets in the RDU area. period.
UPDATE - in '23, there was mangt. change. WW owners wanted a higher ROI, so they hired these folks, they are great at it! Any mgmt. co. (many out of fla.) out of that region is known for increasing roi. That is excellent ! if you are the owners or pm's, however, that almost always means a cut in services, which is probablly what happened.
I am stating this, because it would appear others here, that are my neighbors, are posting reviews as well. In post pandemic US, many things changed and the livery industry was hit particularly hard. This location is no exception. also, when all that fed $ ran out, nationwide there was a rash of burglaries and low end thefts by those who had $ needs (too many people leave electronics in their cars, like here, and its an invitation... police and insurance warn everyone). I have never stayed anywhere that unless it was a secure parking garage, you always park at your own risk. Insurance, right?
The cleaning issues seem to be associated with the front building at this location, not the B side as it is called. The new mgmt. group had quite a backlog to get to. The new GM, 'Sean' is excellent ! His assistants Damien(weekdays) and Andrew (weekend nights) are truly amazing livery professionals. It was these two, who helped this place through the transition (imho) as well as the other very excellent front end personel.
Many people in this industry's cleaning side are low end, hard working folks, but they get stretched pretty thin and turnover of folks is pretty high. Many, all across our country are 1st generation Americans. Very often that is forgotten. We all were once too. Rest assured this location, is well on the way to being the best in RTP - again. Change takes time, the management here, Sean, is on the case and negative reviews are disappearing quickly. The b building has no complaints except the ups and downs of elevator life... (bad pun!) There is no place in this industry (imho) that is truly smoke free. Management here does an excellent job of enforcing something that is very hard to enforce. I never said it went bad here, just not over the top good like it used to be, but e.g. the new maintenance Engineer 'Dave' has made a huge difference with his multiple years of field engineering experience. Fully diverse in his many professional industrial disciplines. Finally, this is a true multi-american environment. From college students (e.g. i have 2 deg's) to graduate students, to business travelers, to corporate teams, every creed, race, color, song key to sing in, whatever is here and this staff is outstanding at dealing with all of it. On any given night, you can enjoy quite a diversity of all walks of life around the fire pit. To our great team, Sean, Damien and Andrew as well as the other oustanding ladies, thanks...
Read moreThis hotel is in need of better staffing and housekeeping that is better trained and held accountable. I regularly book 3 month stays at extended stay hotels for work, and this has been the worst in terms of room cleanliness. If you are staying just a few days maybe these things won’t bother you.
Booked a 3 month stay here. At check in there was a used soap bar in the shower which was the first red flag. After being told at check in that cleaning was done weekly on Friday’s and that I would just be responsible for taking my own trash outside, my room was not cleaned for the first three weeks. After I went to the front to ask if I was mistaken and inquire about weekly cleanings, I was told they weren’t sure why but would put in a note to make sure it was done the following week. After that it was “cleaned” and that cleaning did not included the floor even being swept. If there are not going to be supplies placed in the rooms to do bare minimum things like sweeping, you’d think this would be done by housekeeping. I can count on one hand the number of times my “cleaning” on Fridays included the floor being swept. In the 3 months I was there the cleaning NEVER included the shower. I had to eventually buy supplies and clean the bathroom myself after emailing both managers and never receiving a response. If housekeeping is not going to clean surfaces and the floor, then supplies should at least be left in the room to clean, the nightly cost of the room was not low enough to not even have the basics. If I was paying $50 a night then maybe I’d understand the need to purchase my own cleaning supplies and do it myself. This is a hotel after all not an Airbnb. The inconsistency with cleaning drove me insane. Sometimes the only way I would know housekeeping came that Friday is because they left new detergent and paper towels on the table. Some weeks no trash removal, some weeks no linen change, most weeks the floor was not even swept so couldn’t have been mopped either.
I asked on 2 different occasions to have maintenance come look at the garbage disposal that was not working properly and shooting out water when turned on. It was never addressed before I checked out.
The full size bed and the sofa are uncomfortable. Walls are so thin I could hear the phone conversation of the person in the next room, not because he was yelling.
I wish I had gone through the hassle of checking out early and finding different housing.
The positive? The front door requires key access, and the front desk staff...
