Sam, the woman who you talk to through the front desk kiosk after hours was very kind, helpful and personable; Super 8 should consider themselves lucky to have her as an employee, she alone was the saving grace in my awful experience with this hotel and the ONLY reason for the two star rating in the “service” category. To elaborate - I booked my room with Priceline; during the booking process it showed that the room slept up to 5 people which was exactly what I needed as a mother traveling alone with four children. Check-in went smoothly, after which, we proceeded to head to our room. Immediately upon entering the hallway, there was a strong odor of marijuana which I let Ms. Sam know, who apologized and stated she would have it addressed. After which I thanked her and we continued on to our room to go to sleep - or so I thought. Upon entering the room, there was an EXTREMELY strong odor of must and mildew; it was quite overwhelming. Not only that, but quite frustratingly, the room did not, in fact, sleep five people. After realizing this, I returned to speak with Ms. Sam who was, again, very kind and empathetic, but informed me that there were no roll away beds/cots to offer. It was clear that she wanted to resolve the issue for us though, so she contacted her supervisor. To my utter disbelief, she was told to convey that there was nothing they could do about it because the room was booked through a third party. She explained that her manager said, if a Super 8 employee had provided incorrect information, they would have comped us a second room to accommodate for the error BUT, regardless of the false information from Priceline, since it was booked through them, (despite the fact that they are affiliated, contracted with one another and that Priceline advertises and acts on their behalf) there was “absolutely nothing they could do” other than to charge me for a second room. Obviously this was not acceptable so I informed Ms. Sam that we would not be staying there. Once I returned to the room to make phone calls to find a hotel that could accommodate us, I had the opportunity to make further observations and let’s just say, I now view this situation as a blessing in disguise. Aside from the musty smell, the bedding was all still damp, the carpet, where they suggested that I have one of my children sleep mind you, was gross and not vacuumed, the bathroom was not well cleaned and there was even a hole in the door! So, at 1:30 am I ended up having to drive 30 minutes off course to a hotel that could accommodate us, all while arguing with both Priceline AND Super 8 who each kept putting the blame on the other, telling me that I had to have the other provide a refund. Priceline even had the audacity to tell me, nearly verbatim, “yes, it shows that it can sleep up to five people, but when you actually complete the booking, we note that there is no guarantee that the room can sleep more than two adults.” I’m sorry, WHAT!?!? Due to this “explanation” Priceline refused to provide literally any type of resolution. It wasn’t until I called the Super 8 front desk and spoke with Ms. Sam again that she agreed to cancel the Priceline reservation and provide a full refund, to include my pet fee. In the end, we ended up staying in a hotel that was EXPONENTIALLY nicer, cleaner and overall FAR more accommodating, all for the same price. That being said, I genuinely CANNOT speak enough good things about the front desk clerk at Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Salem, IL. THANK YOU SO MUCH, Ms. Shelly!! You are a TRUE angel and I’m so grateful that I was blessed enough to cross paths with you!! Overall, this was an AWFUL experience with both Super 8 AND Priceline, neither of which I will EVER use again. This was the absolute epitome of a bait and switch and not at all okay. I am simply grateful that, despite being prevented from helping initially, in the end, Ms. Sam did the right thing and refunded all of my money. She is a genuine asset to their company, without her customer service, I have no doubt that this would yet to...
Read moreThe visit started with the phone call alto check availability that went amazingly well earlier in the day. Thanks for that. Then when arriving it seemed wonderful the lobby smelled great, looked clean, off to a great start. Slightly rude lady at check in, but she also looked tired so I looked over it. We get to our room and again first glance looks wonderful. We were exhausted the beds were pretty much what you expect. The pillows were not enjoyable for me. Try sleeping and I am itching the entire night I feel things crawling and never find anything, but honestly think it was the pillows or I was allergic to their detergent. This is where the fun starts, the ac isn’t working, call the front desk, unplugit and plug it back in, ok it came on. During the call she tells me there are no rooms to move us to if this doesn’t work. Oh and mind you the 54 dollar price you see on google is actually 81 dollars at check in. The ac came on and then quickly went off. We unplugged and restarted it no less than 7 times before giving up. We decided to try sleeping, the room would have been comfortable but with no air flow at all it was damp feeling and muggy so hard to breathe. There was an underlying chemical smell in the room I hope that was from disinfectants. All through the night we had NO sleep. The halls and rooms echo so every conversation, argument, laugh, running up the stairs you heard in extreme detail. This is NOT the place to go if you actually want to sleep. Wake up and go to get a shower and notice what Looks like dried drops of blood on the bathroom floor possibly mud. We didn’t stay long enough to find out. We got our things together and left two hours earlier than our planned check out with no sleep and another 7 hours worth of driving. The absolute worst hotel experience ever. My husband did say when we stopped by the front to officially check out around 8 the lady was nice that...
Read moreMostly good here. They have some parking for semis on the road and the parking lot in the front has room for a few oversized vehicles as well. They have 3 floors the top floor is smoking only. We were on the second floor and it was quiet I could not hear anyone above or around us. J'nae was the front desk clerk that checked us in she was professional and quick in getting us checked in and although she was busy she still took the time to help us decide where to get dinner. We settled on the Mexican restaurant across the street and it was delicious and cheap. They are pet friendly with a nominal $10 pet fee. The room itself was clean and the AC was on already so the room was nice and cool which was very appreciative after a long hot day on the road. We had two queen beds that were quite comfortable with clean sheets and blankets and soft fluffy pillows. He room included a fridge microwave hair dryer coffee maker dirty clothes laundry bag(big plus on this one) soap and shampoo. The bathroom was clean and shower had nice water pressure but was hard to keep at a good temperature it was either too cold or too hot. The breakfast was very good with enough choices to satisfy. My only real complaint was the carpet was so old and kind of gross and not just in our room but throughout the whole building. The carpet was this dark brown pattern and it just made everything look dark and dreary. Also the wifi was not real reliable it kept kicking me off. One other plus was the bedside lamp had plugs to charge your electronics!! That is so nice. All in all nice hotel for the price and being greeted by J'nae really started off the whole stay on the right foot. We...
