The Agave Mexican Restaurant was ideally located, just across the parking lot from our motel. So, after driving for about 7 hours, it was enjoyable to walk to dinner, even if it was in 99◦ tempture. Upon entering, a couple checking out pointed us to a hostess that took us to our table, without saying a word or giving us a smile. It was the coldest welcome that I have ever received in a restaurant. I wasn’t sure what to expect after we were seated, but I was pleasantly surprised. The rest of the staff was everything you could ask for: pleasant, friendly, attentive and efficient. They really made for an enjoyable meal.
As luck would have it, we were there on a Wednesday when they have a picture of Margaritas for $5.00. So, when the brought us our Chips and Sala, that is what we ordered. The chips were crisp and not greasy, and the salsa was flavorful, but pretty mild. The Margaritas were surprisingly good.
My wife ordered the Enchiladas Rancheras - Two cheese enchiladas topped with pork, cooked with tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and enchilada sauce. Served with a tossed salad and flour tortillas. She said the food was served hot and it was delicious. I ordered the Carne Asada - Charbroiled steak served with rice, beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, avocado, grilled jalapeño and grilled green onions. It also came with flour tortillas. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great, my only complaint was that there wasn’t enough rice, beans, pico de gallo to balance off the amount of steak you got, but that is a minor complaint.
If you are in Mt Vernon and want some Mexican food, I would definitely consider...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars, I would!! I got a chicken enchilada, ala carte, and 1 beef taco, and one chicken taco, to go. My husband picked it up, and when I opened the container, it was a grainy, dark reddish/brown sauce that looked like it was swimming in grease. It had a few small shreds of white cheese on top of the enchilada toward the middle. I thought, maybe it would taste okay, despite the presentation. The sauce tasted like some off- kind of BBQ, and the flavor was disgusting!! It was like eating a spoonful of grease! The tacos were soft tacos, and they were anything BUT soft. They were rubbery, and tasted EXACTLY like Taco Bells ground beef. If I wanted Taco Bell, I would have gotten that, but I never eat there for a reason! I expected far better than this overpriced(for what we got)nasty food. And to add insult to injury, my husband asked if there was any cutlery in the bag, he(the cashier)said "Man, I don't know, I didn't put it together." If you're traveling, as we were, and you don't know anything about the area, stay away from this greasy spoon! The food wasn't fit for my dog to eat, let alone us! I rarely ever leave reviews. I will generally post a review for one of two reasons: 1. Exceptionally great food and service, or 2. For exceptionally terrible food and service. This place had neither good food, nor did they have good service. It's been 15 minutes since I had a bite of the enchilada and a bite of the taco, and I already have heartburn from the enormous amount of grease in all of the items. 9/10 of the food went into the trash, where it belonged. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME...
Read moreFirst off I want to start by saying that this might have been a flute or accident but at the same time still scary and messed up. So me and my girlfriend had decided to have a pretty late dinner at around 8:40pm-900pm as she really likes Mexican especially agaves, so we get into the restaurant and get our drinks, food, etc. pretty quickly. We then start to notice very strange behavior by to of the workers, staring, frequent walks passed our table, and other things that could be chalked up as just coincidence. The weird part comes in like a Mack truck in the middle of my second drink (both ice waters) as I started to feel a buzz coming on, mind you I’m not 21, this sort of felt like something that might have been caused from my creeped out mind playing tricks on me but as the night went on this buzz got worse and started numbing my legs and hands, on the car ride home I was nearly passing out! There are many more weird details that me and my girlfriend started to realize on the way home, but I’m mostly just writing this review as a precaution to anyone who goes and starts to notice strange behavior I recommend A.) leaving the building B.) Don’t...
