I was driving through IL and had some poor planning and waited until I arrived/was tired from driving until booking a hotel. The normal chain hotels I choose (Comfort Inn and/or Holiday Inn Express) were all booked up. So I gave America's Best Value Inn a try. That was my first stay at an America's Best and my LAST. Room was dirty. I do backcountry camping so I'm fine with dirt and the like but... when backcountry camping... not in a hotel.
Pros: 1. Dog friendly 2. Very reasonable rate 3. Comfortable bed 4. Quiet
Con: 1. Cleanliness or lack of I should say. I fully understand this is a budget hotel/motel and I was not expecting fancy by any means. However, regardless of whether a place is a 1 star budget motel or a 5 star upscale hotel (and everything else in between) .... cleanliness is something that is easy to obtain across the board and something that should be an expectation. The bathroom floor was slippery to walk on in my shoes. Now I don't know if that is because of a particular cleaning material they use or if the floor was literally greasy/dirty. ??? I found caked up debri in the corners of the bathroom with several dead gnats as well. The little lower wall trim along the wall near the sink was filthy. I wiped it with one of their towels and it was not only dirty but... greasy- filth that was obviously not caused from one missed cleaning but had accumulated over weeks/months. The other thing is the cleaning staff left a friendly hand written note on the desk that they had prepared the room for me and that tips were appreciated. I don't mind the note and I do normally leave tips when leaving a hotel but not this time. There is no way I could leave a tip for a room that was lacking in basic cleanliness. *Note: They (and all hotels) should just get rid of the carpet, especially for dog friendly rooms. Carpet is impossible to keep clean. It smells. Vinyl plank flooring would look much better and would be far cleaner. Heck, they could probably increase price point by $10 a night per room for the upgrade.
I will not stay at an America's Best...

We should have been provided a full return. Until someone goes through cancer or know what it does to patient and family I guess they don't realize the serious of what happened. Yall made her sick sicker than she was. Its a shame that a lot of humans can't do the right thing. So I want you all to know the owner of this place didn't say Im sorry , ask about her condition when we left, and offered a 10 percent discount only good there and we live in Ohio. Cancer Supporters will support me. It weakens the immune system. Just so you know owner she ran a fever and allergies for four days extremely bad. Keep your 10 percent and I pray you never deal with cancer. Its drains you as a person your life savings and fear of...
Read moreBedbug Incident – Americas Best Value Inn, Mount Vernon, IL
I stayed at the Americas Best Value Inn in Mount Vernon, Illinois for one night only, and it was one of the most uncomfortable lodging experiences I’ve had in years. The morning after my stay, I discovered numerous painful bedbug bites on my arms, back, torso, and chin. The bites were large, inflamed, and consistent with known bedbug patterns.
I immediately reported the issue to the front desk before checking out, showing them the visible bites on my body. The response I received was a simple “sorry” — no concern, no offer to investigate the room, no incident report, and no follow-up communication. Their reaction — or lack thereof — gave me the strong impression that this was not the first time they’ve received this type of complaint, and it was handled as if it were routine.
Later that evening, I took timestamped and GPS-located photographs to document the extent of the bites for medical and legal purposes. I also had to take steps to disinfect all of my belongings, wash clothes on high heat, and monitor for possible further issues.
As someone who travels often, I take precautions: I use a hard-shell suitcase, keep it zipped and elevated, and inspect my surroundings. Despite that, I left this hotel with visible, painful injuries, and a serious concern for public health safety.
I will be submitting this complaint to corporate management and the Illinois Department of Public Health for follow-up. I strongly encourage others to avoid this property until it has been professionally inspected...
