I would strongly caution anyone planning a wedding to steer away from this hotel. We had a 75-room block with this hotel, and were initially slated to host two events on property, but did not move forward given the obscene disparity between cost and quality with other options in the area. Before you sign, they will promise the world. As soon as you sign your contract, their default response to everything will be “no” or “let me ask my manager but I expect they will say no”. The sales staff does not have the autonomy to do anything for your event and the management does not have the desire to support you.
In our case, we asked about outside catering before signing the room block and were told it would be fine. After we signed, they wanted a $25,000 fee for outside catering. For comparison, we held our wedding celebrations at four separate venues throughout the weekend and their venue fees were $5,000, $9,500, $12,500, and $15,000 for some of the highest rated wineries in Napa. Those were each wineries with views, vineyards, and beautiful atmospheres, as compared to a small hotel with no such scenery.
Of course, once they changed to this exorbitant fee for outside catering, we tried their in-house catering to see if the quality would at least commensurate with the significant cost. The quality was so poor and borderline inedible that we unanimously agreed it would be inappropriate to serve to guests. Additionally, their menu was amongst the most expensive of the venues we visited ($100/pp for a basic menu with limited options and no servers). Given this, we had to organize a last minute change in venues, which was stressful, but fortunately, other venues in the area were much more responsive and accommodating. In our case, we were able to secure an even more scenic area for only a $5,000 venue fee and $70/pp including drinks. They also didn’t try to upcharge us $1,000+ for a simple microphone to do speeches, provided an assistant the day of to help with setup, and the owner even stopped by during the event to make sure everything went well. Even with the additional cost of providing a shuttle service to and from the hotel for this event, it came out to a fraction of the cost of Marriott with significantly higher quality and service.
I’ll spare the pieces on how the majority of the correspondence was rude and how every time you visit the desk you’ll likely be waiting in a line of people disputing room charges because Marriott does in fact enforce a hidden non-waivable daily fee and variable room rates. I’ll also spare the part about their very ‘kind’ pre-wedding email threatening to charge $500 per outside food or beverage they find from our party, and $500 if we move any piece of furniture in their storage room. I will also spare the detail about their management recommending that a ‘South of the Border’ menu may be suitable to ‘us people’, after meeting me and my Indian family in-person.
We spent just under 2 years planning our wedding, visited Napa three times, and looked at 34 venues in total. Trying to work with the Marriott was our biggest regret, disappointment, and headache. I strongly advise anyone considering them to look elsewhere. You will find much higher quality, lower cost, and more beautiful venues almost anywhere you look. This is the only negative review we have for any of our dozens of venues or vendors from that entire weekend - shop around and choose...
Read moreWe checked into Marriott Napa valley after travelling from Scotland to California to enjoy our honeymoon. What an instant regret that was when we checked into Marriott Napa valley. The reception staff were amongst the rudest employees I have ever encountered in a hotel. I am an ambassador member of Marriott and I was completely shocked at the attitude of the staff.
It’s 2025 but Apple Pay is still not available at this hotel when checking in. I work all over the world and have used this in Africa, the Middle East and India, however trying to use Apple Pay in California is apparently far too advanced. After receiving the worst service at check in, we carried all our own bags through the hotel with no help of a trolley or concierge to our room. We arrived and the bed sheets were dirty, the air conditioning unit sounded like a tractor and I looked at my husband and burst into tears.
We went back to the front desk where the manager on duty spoke to us and kindly upgraded us (as is usually offered anyway at any half decent property as an ambassador member). It was also revealed the initial lady who checked us in did not offer me welcome points, did not tell me about the daily F&B credit and did not give us our gift from the hotel.
We went to the ‘suite’ and it was ok, but old fashioned. We woke up and checked out the next day. That was another drama. The service we received from the front desk staff on check out was even worse than on check in.
They took a hold of $525.59 when we checked in on 11th September. We were told this had been released (but it hasn’t and we are still waiting for this being returned to our account - 3 weeks later). They then charged us $450.59 on checkout for the cost of the room and taxes. Why was this not taken from the deposit amount? Why was the deposit released and then they made us repay this amount?
They then charged a further $37.31 on 12th September and $93.70 on 13th September - 2 days after our stay?? With absolutely no explanation as to what this was.
That is a total of $1107.19 for a hotel stay that was only supposed to be $450.59 - even then this amount for a night in this hotel was just NOT worth it. The hotel are owe us $656.60.
I have called the property 3 times and had absolutely no luck at all. They are extremely unhelpful and are unlawfully holding our money. To be honest with you, I think they should refund us the whole thing. Including the room charge as the service we have received is absolutely awful and not something I’d like to pay for. However, if they do not want to rectify this then they at least need to refund us what they are supposed to. I have been patient with this matter but it’s been 3 weeks now and absolutely no response from the hotel.
When I did call up I spoke to a man on the phone whose attitude was just disgusting. I have never experienced a hotel with such rude, entitled and unhelpful staff.
My husband also left a review and a man named Brent who is director of operations replied to him with a phone number asking him to reach out. My husband called him 3 times and left a voice message but has still not heard back from him. This was over 2 weeks ago.
I have now contacted my personal ambassador as I find the actions of this hotel to be completely out of order. They have not refunded us what they are due us.

Read moreDear Marriott Representative:
I recently (Sun Nov 7 – Thurs Nov 11, 2021) spent four nights at the Napa Valley Marriott Hotel & Spa 3425 Solano Avenue Napa, California 94558 I am writing to strongly suggest this hotel be re-designated as a Category 5 hotel, at best…something closer to a Marriott Courtyard. This hotel in its current condition, as managed by Sage Hotel Management, is an embarrassment to a Marriott Category 7 hotel. Here’s a compendium of issues encountered during my stay at the Napa Valley Marriott based upon my expectations of staying at a Category 7 property:
There is no public “Spa” per se: There’s a public heated pool with very limited hours, particularly at night. There’s no public jacuzzi. No saunas. No steam rooms. “Spa” in the property’s title is highly misleading as the side building “Spa” might as well be off-campus. My room (1131) had major issues: a. The shower head was 1/3 clogged upon arrival and I had to use a cloth to unclog the individual water apertures. b. The hand shower wand control was missing / broken. c. The “barn door” to the bathroom doesn’t seal the door, allowing private moments to become all too public. The door also wouldn’t stay open at night. d. No night light option in the bathroom. e. There’s only one inadequate hanging hook in the entire bathroom. This was reported to management on day one. There’s no towel rack. The only choice to dry and hang your towels is to throw your towels over the shower door. There’s no hook near the sink to hang a hand towel after you wash your hands. Have two people use the bathroom and this becomes a sad comedy. f. No drawers on either side of the bed to place items of personal interest. Housekeeping / Management Concerns a. I asked for no housekeeping upon arrival once the front desk alerted me to their staff shortage and that preference was entered into their system. Two days later housekeeping comes in and does the room. I went back to the front desk to ask about the breakdown in process / procedures. The front desk double checked to ensure my preference was properly listed and they assured me housekeeping wouldn’t intrude again. Naturally, the very next day, housekeeping came in and remade / rearranged the room. The Fitness Facility (gym) a. When I arrived at the gym I reported that two of the three ellipticals were seriously “cogging” (a...
