I was excited to try this place, as someone who eats very clean. I was somewhat disappointed after seeing the preparation of my tofu dish, and sweet chili Brussel sprout side dish.
First of all, the tofu was not prepared well. It was just grilled in both sides, just for the sake of showing grill marks. It was not cooked through, neither was it seasoned. It was so bland. I cook tofu all the time. It's never like this. Additionally; the slices are cut too thick, and so, it cannot get cooked through properly, for the time that it is put on the grill. Season the tofu with a good amount of salt & black pepper, and natural seasoning, then put it to grill a bit longer. The only good thing about it was that it wasn't fried. Which bring me to my next point.
Why would you mess up a perfectly good dish, like Brussel sprouts, by deep frying it in unhealthy oil, then adding some additional chili sauce to it? This dish SWIMS in oil... literally!! I had to throw mine in the garbage... because that's what it was: garbage. You don't "DEEP FRY" excellent Brussel sprouts. Season them with salt & black pepper, then bake them, steam them, grill them, air fry them, toast them. Just don't DEEP FRY THEM IN OIL... EVER!! You can't advertise the store to have "healthy" options; then do that to the vegetables. Everything doesn't need to be fried. Clogged arteries, people.
Fix these 2 dishes mentioned, and then those options can save the "healthy" label of this place. I had to go next door to Nekter Juice Bar, and buy a Toxin Flush natural drink, to ensure that nothing was going to harm me from that l this meal. Their juices were PHENOMENAL. ALL NATURAL.
In closing: Master the tofu in that tofu dish (cook it.... especially better. Get it seasoned); stop frying your Brussel sprouts. You're defeating the purpose of this powerful vegetable, canceling its effects. You're losing customers by doing this. You lost me. Just grill the thing, or toast/roast it. Get the char on it, but not by frying it in oil. Sprinkle salt &...
Read moreWe were not aware of the transition of the takeout to dine-in style, but we were pleasantly surprised!
Service: At the start it was great. Greeted at the door and sat immediately, as we made it before the lunch rush on a weekend. Was provided recommendations on the new / updated menu, was warned on the spice levels of one of the items, "Are you sure, it's really spicy?", and had our order placed. However, the reason I have it rated fairly low was because of how long we were waiting for our food. We had to wait about 45 minutes for our food. For some context, we ordered when there was about 4 tables already seated, but as we were waiting, tables were being filled and receiving their food before us, even after arriving after us. We were initially sat behind a couple that left, about 10 minutes in after we were seated, to which it was filled by a small group after we ordered and they received their food way before us. Our server let us know there was an issue with the system about 40 minutes in, at that point we were debating on leaving, as we were starving, but just waited out the remaining time.
Food: Altogether we ordered the: Pork Belly Mac N' Cheese, OG Dirty Fry, and Jamaican Jerk Chicken Bowl. The Mac N' Cheese was really just creamy, that's it. The Pork Belly was what made it phenomenal, if anything I'd rather just have the pork belly. The OG Dirty Fry was our go to order from Heritage, prior to the current design, and it was amazing, just like it was before. The Jamaican Jerk Chicken Bowl was good, it is quite spicy, as our server told us 3+ times...
Overall, food was great, as we've come to know the place, but with the updated design, pricing, and quality of service, it's hard to think of a time we'll be coming back for something other than ordering takeout for the...
Read moreREVIEW UPDATE I have just been notified by Heritage Eats that informed me they do not CLAIM to serve authentic cuisine. However, if you use the name "HERITAGE" Eats, the name of the restaurant IMPLIES AUTHENTICITY. It misleads the customer coming in for the FIRST TIME.
I ordered a banh mi sandwich. They don't use the correct bread used for banh mi. They used dutch crunch bread! The pork is not prepared like a banh mi sandwich. The bottom of my sandwich was 100% soaked in juice. I COULD BARELY pick it up! Their banh mi sandwich should be more appropriately called a French Dip Pork Sandwich.
That is why I say the name of this restaurant is deceiving. Just call it "EATS". I can't see where the "HERITAGE" comes into play here?
IT SERVES GOOD FOOD. I never specifically commented on the quality of your food until now. But you picked a deceiving name for your business & you CONFUSE potential new customers driving by & see your sign. "HERITAGE" Eats. AND IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HERITAGE. Your banh mi sandwich is a pork sandwich & you should name it for what it TRULY IS. A PORK SANDWICH.
It's insulting the cuisine of the Vietnamese culture. And NO, I am not Vietnamese. 😊
ORIGINAL COMMENTS Delete the word Heritage. Leave just Eats. Nothing cultural about this place. It caters to the American pallet. However, the employees are both COURTEOUS and...
