This is a great hotel if you are blacked out drunk. Location, location, location, are the only redeeming aspects of this hotel. If you are accustomed to a quality room, or maybe even just an average room, with below average service, you’ll for sure be disappointed.
We booked two rooms recently for 3 nights via a 3rd party website. After traveling for a couple hours and arriving a little early, our request for early check in was denied, politely denied. So, we wasted some time so that our actual arrival would be right at check in time. We arrived at 3pm (the time we were told we could check in). To our surprise there were many other people waiting to check in, some had also arrived earlier than us and could also not be accommodated. At 3pm (check in time) we were all told there were still no rooms available and that we would have to wait….the lobby soon filled up even more. No names were taken for check in, no “line” was created and when they finally started to register guests no announcement was even made. They just quietly took whoever walked up to the counter after we all waited for around 30 minutes.
When we finally got checked in to our room, they key provided didn’t work! Uhhhg, all the way back downstairs. After waiting another 1/2 hour the key was recoded and we finally get into our room. If you can call it that…..the bathroom was so small we were unable to use it to change clothes. Our knees, while on the commode, almost touched the closed bathroom door. The furniture appeared to be Ikea but spray painted black. We did have a sink “in the room” and a fridge and both actually worked. We even had the smallest deck I’ve ever seen (it fit only two people). The access door to the deck couldn’t be fully opened because furniture was in the way, but we at least had access. The view from this spot was actually pretty good. The bed/mattress was also pretty good (stiff, which we prefer). Window based air conditioning also worked well, but the window blinds didn’t fully cover windows…..HELLO sun up!
During our 2nd day on the beach, I get a VM/call from the hotel. “You need to check out or you will be fined $100.00”. I figured it was just a mistake, but called them back. I explained there must be a mistake that we were booked one more night and asked if they could verify their information. They said their information was accurate and we needed to come check out immediately. We reviewed our documentation to be sure our reservation was correct ( 3 days not just 2 days as we believed). After reviewing we were so happy to find our documentation was correct. We were sure everything would easily be explained/resolved. We left the beach and went to the hotel to show them our confirmation and found them to be argumentative, unprofessional and completely unapologetic for their mess up. Instead of attempting to resolve the situation or calling other hotels in an attempt to find another room, they simply demanded we check out, and that our reservation was only for two days not three which at this point we were happy to check out.
If you want to stay at a poorly run hotel with very average rooms and below average staff, go for it. Be careful they get your reservation correct, so your family vacation isn’t cut short/ruined like ours. We will never consider this hotel or any other run by the same company.
It’s a shame we go to this beach twice each summer. We tried this hotel for the first time and with average service and an average room, we would have chosen it again.
I highly recommend you try every other hotel before...
Read moreStayed here with my sister and her one year old and my 72 year old mother. I myself was 7 months pregnant. Our fam and friends who live locally always tell us not to stay here and that it’s run down. But we liked it and always did.
Our first night was fine. Cleaning service was exceptional. It’s a “shore” hotel- so things are damn and musky. It happens.
The second night- we got a bang on our door at 9:30 pm. When my sister looked out the peep hole she saw two young “workers” who we found out that one was the managers child.
They informed us that we weren’t supposed to be there. They asked us to come out of our room and tell them our last name.
We tried to call the front desk and it was busy.
My mother was definitely spooked and told the young “workers” she was going to call 911- the young man became upset with this and things were escalating.
We assured him we wouldn’t call 911- at this point we were completely away and my nephew was sobbing.
My sister called the manager through her cellphone- and the manager asked her to come down with proof from Expedia that we were supposed to be in the room.
My sister had to ride the elevator with a not so happy worker- who was still Visibly upset about the 911 comment.
My sister did not feel comfy in the elevator bu herself but still went.
The manager and her spoke and my sis was able to show our reservation. She manager explained that their system messed up.
Needless to say, we were unsettled for the rest of the night- and my nephew definitely did not sleep.
In the morning - my mom attempted to talk to the manager. We were told she stepped out. An hour later- she still had stepped out.
We had her card with her personal phone number and had to head home.
My mother pursued contacting the manager several times. The manager picked up twice.
One time the manager asked if we wanted two nights for free- my mom declined, I think we are done staying here - she asked for our money back for the second night. After all, you pay for a hotel for security and sleep- we got Neither the second night.
The manager said she’d get back to us and never did.
Weeks later- my mom got a hold of the manager again who said she was on her way into the hotel and PROMISED she’d call her back in 20 minutes. She never did.
We are not complainers. We didn’t want to leave reviews like this/ on the contrary- it she gave us no other choice.
I left a review in Expedia- and the same manager wrote that she had never heard of this issue what so ever and asked us to contact her. This was infuriating. We couldn’t write back and say that’s not true/ so she had the last word. This is why I’m bringing my review to Google- Expedia told us there’s nothing else they can do-
I want to make sure that other guests understand what we went through and the aftermath - and how we paid for a night that the basic necessities of a hotel stay should provide for you- were not provided.
Not sure why they came up at 9:30 at night to basically tell us we were “squatters”- and definitely not sure why the manager lied on Expedia when all it would’ve taken was a phone call back.
If the manager responds to this and says she never heard of this issue- it’s a blatant lie- and we want others to know.
I’m so bummed because this was our place to go- suggested it to others - even took big group trips here -
I’d stay at the atlantic...
Read moreWe were prepared for the worst leading up to our trip due to the bad reviews, but because of the amazing location and decent price we decided that we would risk it. We were pleasantly surprised walking into the lobby. Although there was some fixing needed on the outside, it was clean and nicer on the inside than we expected. The front desk clerk was also very helpful and nice. I’d say the lobby is the nicest part of the hotel. Coffee was fresh and always available.
Up in the hallways where the rooms were there are definitely things that needed to be repaired. Small things like numbers for the rooms missing and things like that. Nothing that was going to ruin our trip.
I think I was most pleasantly surprised by the room. Cleanliness is the most important thing to me and the room was pretty clean. Met my standards. Furniture is a little beat up but not to the point that it needs replacing. I’m sure rooms vary on condition and cleanliness but in my experience it was fine. You can see in my photos. No stains on the carpet or anything like that.
Pool area was clean but the water was a little cloudy. I’d let my kids swim in it but probably wouldn’t go in myself. With the ocean right there who wants to swim in a indoor pool anyway.
As far as the location, you can’t beat it. Very short walk to the beach, shops, ect. This was the highlight of this hotel. My wife and I came for a wedding and the wedding venue on the beach was within walking distance. We also went to block island which this hotel is also a short commute to the ferry. It was awesome.
I usually don’t leave reviews but I feel like I needed to add some clarity due to all the mixed reviews of this place. If you are looking for a luxury resort, this isn’t it. If you are coming to town and want a decent clean place to stay at with an amazing location, this is it. It’s kind of weird that this hotel doesn’t just get a good maintenance person to fix a few things. The repairs that are needed are small and easy. Every day I saw the maintenance person fixing things. Maybe this is a turning point to make a good place into a great place. Hope so. It has so...
