This property is rated at least a 4.5 stars in my experience mainly for the VALUE, amenities, staff, location and overall convenience.
Stay: Jan. 30 through Feb. 2, 2022.
Objective: Escape the unusually cold Pacific Northwest, and to get some good BBQ.
Some of the comments you see in the reviews are not incorrect - The elevator is very slow, the decor is older inside, etc. The place is far from requiring an update to modernize. There are many positives that will be detailed later. Remembering Microtel Inn & Suites is a 2 star facility, one should tune expectations accordingly.
Negatives experienced - Part of the window curtains were off rail in my room, air conditioner a little noisy, nearby ice machine had issues and was generating a lot of noise due to some defect for one day, & pretty thin walls. Even with these considered, the high rating I gave stands.
Positives experienced - I was upgraded to a suite (Did not request) on high floor (requested) when checked-in (Nice size room with a "living room" area that had a sofa bed (Queen bed was very comfortable for me, though the sofa was a little too soft, but the extra space was appreciated! Just be careful of the ceiling down partition that seperated the bed from the "living room" and not knock your headed accidently.). The room had both a refrigerator and a microwave that came in very handy. *Strong wifi signal *Housekeeping were very thorough on all days I was there, and were kind. *The front desk individuals were professional, and provided useful information when requested. *Loads of food places and a pharmacy within walking distance. **Space Center Houston is directly across the street and you'll save the $5 parking fee by just walking there [If you decide to walk there, note that you'll cross a major roadway with at least 8 lanes of traffic going both ways. The traffic light timer provides about 30 seconds, so walk fast! After you get to the other end, fastest way to the main entrance is to walk a short distance left climb over a locked entrance/exit blue colored bars, and cut across the huge parking lot. Remember to get a $5 off ticket coupon at the motel entrance area.] Allocate at least 4 hours from entry till exit since there are 2 tours that require reservations, each tour lasting about an hour each. I made the mistake of visiting the place the day I departed Houston and allocated only 2 hours.
Surprise - Hot breakfast served. Offerings were good. Besides the usual cereals with milk, muffins, bread you can toast, etc. you get to make your own waffle with a texas state waffle iron, and there are Jimmy Dean mini Sausage biscuits that you microwave only for a minute. The usual apple & orange Juices and a coffee machine. Go early (starts 6 a.m.) to avoid crowds
Overall, this was a very good stay. I shall definitely stay there again next time I...
Read moreThis hotel was ok for the money. Pool had a green tint to it, so I decided for both my daughter and I not to use it.The main issue I had with this hotel, which is the reason why I would not go back, is that on Saturday morning they refused to allow me to get breakfast even though I was in line for waffles prior to 9:00 AM. I got two bowls of cereal and an apple and was waiting in line with two persons ahead of me for the waffle machine. I decided to try to get some orange juice while waiting and the waitstaff had already taken the dispenser nozzles off the machine. I asked the front desk if they would replace it. I was told I was late and that breakfast was closed. I informed him that I was in line waiting for waffles. After a brief argument, he told the waitstaff to bring back the nozzles so I could get juice. They never did. I went back into line for the waffle machine. The waffle batter was running low by the time the second person in line finished up. Instead of refilling it, the waitstaff pulled the batter from the machine and took it back to the kitchen. When I asked if they were coming back so I could have two waffles, the front desk again stated that I was late for breakfast and refused service. He stated that he could prove on video that I was late.I demanded to see this proof. He started playing the video, but the time stamp was not accurate. I stated, "therefore you cannot prove I was late." I asked to talk to the manager. He called the manager, because he was not on site, and proceeded to talk in a foreign language with the managed. After a few minutes, I was told that the manager is refusing service and would not do anything. I advised that the easy way to resolve the situation would be to allow 2 glasses of orange juice and 2 waffles. They refused to do anything. Therefore, I had to take my daughter to a restaurant to get breakfast. I am going to seek to have the hotel pay for the receipt for this breakfast.I called Wyndam customer care regarding the situation. They took my information and stated I would get a call back in a week. Instead of calling me in that time frame, they send me an email a week and a day later and stated that I had to contact the local manager and provided his phone number.Additionally, on the Sunday morning, I was able to get breakfast, but I have photographic proof that they allowed other after 9:00 AM to get breakfast. This proof shows that they did not break down breakfast until 09:15 AM.This is the worst customer experience I have ever had at any hotel I have ever stayed at. If you are expecting to be treated like a paying guest, do not use this hotel. Additionally, I will think twice about using another Wyndam...
Read moreLet's say your on a road trip, and you foolishly thought you'd be able to make the entire drive without stopping. You even laughably suggested to yourself that you'll just pull over and nap a little if you needed. No, that's not going to happen. You need somewhere to stay for the night, but you didn't work up a couple hundred bucks into your road trip budget for a hotel stay.....then you stumble upon this little gem of a hotel.
Clean and bright it seems you may have to offer an organ donation as a deposit. Yet your met with relief when the desk clerk lets you know that not only is your stay under $100 after taxes, you also get a free breakfast.
Now on to the rooms, they are compact. Not a glamorous deluxe 'Hey look Ma, they got a Jacuzzi in this room " type room. But what they manage to fit into that room without encumbering the walkflow can only be summed up as defying the laws of physics. We are not small people, and my hips did not meet an unfortunate corner once while walking around that room. But enough about that....lets talk about this bed...
If your temperpedic bed number is the equivalent of a fluffy cloud then these beds are not for you. They are quite firm, I'm only assuming for lumbar support. My husband woke up with his back hurting and we have a pretty firm bed at home. However....however....i need to know who fluffs their pillows. They need a raise, those pillows were the best pillows I've ever slept on. I was tempted on shoving one into my bag and keeping it forever as my precious pillow like Golem from Lord of the Rings.
Now remember that free breakfast. I bet your thinking....compact room-great price=minimal breakfast. WRONG! You have eggs, sausage, and potatoes, then a variety of bagels and toast, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, and two waffle makers. I was quite impressed on their selection of juices and coffes. Now, I do have a complaint about this breakfast. That's is the lack of Texas shaped waffles. Where I'm from (You guessed it, the Lone Star State of Awesome) if you can make it a Texas shape then you better do it. Waffles are one of those things. Now I understand we stayed in a hotel in Oklahoma, but I only see that as a small detail in the lack of Texas shaped waffles.
The only reason I did not give 5 stars is the need for serta to come and do a mattress rescue makeover. Everything else was impressive and we will use Microtel again...
