Bún chả giò, thịt nướng is my go to takeout meal, needless to say that I know good bun thịt nướng when I come across it. I’m Vietnamese, and also very picky. I used to think nothing is as good as homemade, but this place changed my mind. Too bad I don’t live in the area and was only traveling for work.

The meat was really good, very flavorful; savory and sweet. Veggies were fresh, you can tell by the bean sprouts (bean sprouts are hard to keep fresh/ doesn’t keep for long). They were also very accommodating when I asked for a side of Thai basil, usually places are stingy especially when something doesn’t normally come with the dish. They gave me a lot. Fish sauce was good. Good portion size.

Now to the best part - the egg rolls! Most places I’ve come across the egg roll is just filler, not a lot of quality meat and soooo greasy, not here. It’s almost as good as the ones I make, not greasy, crispy, and great flavor. I ordered the cha giò appetizer and added to my bun thit nuong since they don’t have bun chia gio thịt nướng as an item itself on the menu but it worked because they give you (4) in an order.

The owners (I’m assuming) were really nice and pleasant; jovial. I didn’t dine in but the place looked cleaned, especially the kitchen, which is important.

We came across this restaurant after finishing up a weekend at the NASA Johnson Space Center 🧑‍🚀 👨‍🚀 🚀 ✨🌟 ☄️ 🌌! And we are so happy that we did 😃!

We came for a late lunch 🍜😋, around 1:40 pm on a Sunday. But even though the restaurant employees were cleaning up dishes and tables from customers who had just finished eating, they promptly greeted and welcomed us in ☺️! Because we were somewhat on a time crunch, we asked how fast they would be able to prepare our pho 🍜 and spring rolls 🌿 since we ordered the lunch specials (which were available before 2 pm that Sunday). They said they could promptly prepare our food and they would be right out.

They certainly did not disappoint 😃! Our pho bowls 🍜 and spring rolls 🌿 were served quickly to us within 15 minutes 🙂! And the food was absolutely delicious 😋! The beef 🥩 was very tender ☺️ and the pho broth 🍜 was hot and rich 🙂!

We were really happy that they prepared such quality food within a short period of time, and also managed to deliver top-notch excellent customer service 🌟😃!

If we come through this area again, we will definitely make sure we stop by here again 🙂!

The Oriental Gourmet Express is a hidden gem when it comes to Vietnamese food in the entire Clear Lake Area. There are so many Vietnamese joints these days but this one stands out in terms of authenticity, quality and service. I have never tasted such delicious and savory beef or chicken Pho-Soup anywhere else, the Umami flavor is intense and the meat is so tender, it just melts in your mouth. The spring rolls are always made-to-order (as everything else), fresh and crisp and all the meat dishes have amazing char-broil flavor, and you can tell a lot of love was put into the marinade. The owner greets and farewells you personally and the staff is always friendly, attentive and super fast. Lastly, the presentation of the food is much nicer than in all the other Vietnamese places in this area but without the price of a fancy-schmancy restaurant!
