Mediterraneo Market and Coffee is a cozy, inviting spot for Mediterranean cuisine, though it faces some challenges compared to similar eateries in the Houston area. It’s a smaller establishment, and given what seems to be budget constraints or a growing process, it has room to improve to match its potential. It’s worth noting that management may not come from a hospitality background, which might impact some aspects of the experience.
Locale: The dining area is comfortable and well-arranged, offering a welcoming environment to sit and enjoy a meal. Our table was clean, with a comfortable bench, and the ambiance could certainly support a more tranquil dining experience.
Cleanliness: Overall, Mediterraneo keeps up with cleanliness, though the restrooms needed considerable attention—a detail that’s worth addressing to elevate the overall experience.
The Food: While the menu offers Mediterranean staples, this is where Mediterraneo deviates a bit from similar establishments. We ordered grilled chicken, Greek salad, and rice.
The Hummus: This dish missed the mark for traditional Mediterranean flavor. It was rather flat, lacking the essential ingredients that typically make hummus stand out.
The Chicken: Nicely grilled but slightly overcooked, resulting in a drier texture. A bit less time on the grill might have preserved more of the natural juiciness.
The Rice: Instead of the expected fragrant, long-grain variety commonly used in Mediterranean cuisine, the restaurant uses smaller grains, which, while understandable as a cost-saving measure, detracts from the dish’s quality.
Portion Size: The servings are somewhat smaller compared to other Mediterranean restaurants in the area, making them feel a bit sparse for the price.
Price: Speaking of pricing, Mediterraneo leans on the higher side, which could be a challenge given the current level of offerings and competition within the city.
Service: Our server was polite and friendly, managing a larger number of tables than typically assigned in the industry. While the attention we received was warm, the high demand on her time affected the overall service experience.
In summary, Mediterraneo Market and Coffee has some strengths, such as its inviting atmosphere, but improvements in food preparation, portion sizing, and service logistics would go a long way in enhancing the...
Read moreI stopped in here to buy a couple of jars of Grape Leaves to make homemade Dolmas which are a Greek - Lebanese food very similar to Cabbage Rolls. The fillings are the same a mixture of Rice and Seasoned Lean Ground Beef. Only the are smaller than Cabbage Rolls due to the smaller size of the Grape Leaves. They are very delicious and I grew up eating them with boys I grew up with in our neighborhood! Their mother was of Lebanese decent and their father was of Mexican heritage from the Rio Grand valley. They grew up with the best of two worlds because their mother was fabulous cook leaning to cook not only Greek/ Lebanese food, but also Mexican food from her husbands side of the family while they were Loving in San Marcos, Texas. Her mother came to this country at a very young age and was fluent in six different languages!!! As a kid they would offer me strange looking food that I want very sure about in the early 60's. But I soon learned like Andrew Zimmern, if it looks good, eat it!!! I grew up to love her cooking often asking for the recipes to make the things she did! She raised 10 kids, one daughter who was the oldest and 9 boys!!! She always had a stack of big fresh flour tortillas at any given time! Those boots and I could make a meal in itself with those big fluffy tortillas!!! But anyways, back to the store. They have all kinds of stuff in the Mediterraneao Market. It's more like a big Import Store where you can buy things like Grape Leaves, Olive oils, Wine, and many other things as well as have a Mediterranean style lunch here! They have inside and outside seating. They have a wait staff to take care of you and are very accommodating and helpful, as well as very friendly! I love coming in here just to look around and see what they have. So if you're in the area just drop in and see what they have! They also make Dolmas, or Grape Leaves here too, so if you're curious about how they might taste, come in and get you some to snack on. On another note, Skipper's Restaurant in Clear Lake Shores has Dolmas or Grape Leaves also as well as a few other Greek appetizers that are really good! But as far as making your own and picking up other imported items like Olive oils and other seasonings, come and visit the Mediterraneo Market and explore the store and their goods and see what they have on the menu you'd...
Read moreBeen giving chances to this joint since 2003 (mostly due to convenience of me working across the gate and being a tour guide to folks who come in from out of town and want to try this place because of BS reviews) and I gotta say, today the straw has been broken! Showed up at 1234pm with a party of 4 1/2, all seated up by 1238pm, counted 15 customers and 3 waitress's, not yet approached by 1252pm, got up and politely asked if somebody could venture on over to our table. 1257pm somebody came, we ordered drinks and food since we had already been there 19 mins with out any customer service, we were well prepared on ordering. Now the best part....27 "f'in" mins for 2 waters, 2 teas and 1 lemonade. I'm sorry but that was it, the food has never been really that good, but I do enjoy their Tzatziki (I guess that's why I came back for 16 years) anybody who says this food is excellent I would gladly debate!!!! All in all, customer service a wonderful, yet refined "0", food, meh, maybe a "2" because of the Tzatziki, friendlyness????????, I've been eating here 16 years and have never met the owners once. I see them all the time, but have never met them. One would think to notice a customer of 16 years, I know I would, besides he looks like the bad guy in all the movies where somebody is trying to kill Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris and Arnold Schwarzenegger!!!! Save your time and bread, and hit up great places in "the area" like Wael's, Opus, Kemah Steak Company, Gilhooeys and Merlion. Rant over,...
