Oh my where do I begin. This B&B gave me the worse night I've had, maybe ever. Let's start with the price.... For 240 dollars a night you would expect spectacular. If I had only paid 50 bucks (which is what I think it's maybe worth) I wouldn't be so quick to negativity. But since the sticker price is extreme, I expect at least at a minimum a good night's sleep. Big fat negative. The house is very old, which isn't the bad part. The bad part is it's falling apart. The outside looks nothing like the pictures. The house is falling apart, from paint to fixtures to bathrooms. The wharf by the water is literally fixing to fall into the water at some point in the near future. There were bugs in the bedroom, bugs in the shower. Pretty much no parking for the amount of people they expect to stay here. For the price of luxury you get a run down room and a run down living room to hang out in.... Yay? When we checked in no one was there to greet us. Usually that's ok, but they didn't inform is about any of the accommodations specifics, like the AC controls (which I had to wander around the place till I figured it out), or private entrance, or how to check out. Very unprofessional. But above all else the worse thing about this place was THE NOISE. I lay in bed listening to trucks and cars and everything else rumble by ALL NIGHT LONG. I finally fell to sleep at 1 am and woke back up to more road noise at 5 am. As I'm writing this from the B&B at 7 am I'm sitting listening to vehicles that sound like they are fixing to come through the window into the room. What a romantic getaway.... NOT. I think there is a reason this place has no recent reviews. All their 5 Star reviews on other sites are either paid for (dirty advertising) or were written before traffic on this street became insane, because THIS IS THE WORSE ROAD NOISE EVER. Literally I have found nothing to like about this place. I will be sure to add my review to every website that promotes this place, so hopefully no one else is fooled into coming to this...
Read moreI always wanted to stay in a Victorian home bed and breakfast. For our 32nd winning anniversary, on April 14, my husband surprised me with a two night stay at the Violet Hills bed-and-breakfast. We stayed in the John Reavls room, the room in the back and it is the only room that has double French doors opening up onto a beautiful and very relaxing back porch. I very much needed to get away and this place did not disappoint. The atmosphere was very relaxing, the home is beautiful and very clean. Our first night there we were able to sit down on the dock and enjoy a meal while watching the boaters. The first morning I got up and went out on the back porch, through my private entrance, and was relaxing with a cup of coffee when this wonderful lady by the name of Laverne, who is the innkeeper, came and introduced herself to me. Later that morning, during a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and waffles, she invited me to come visit with her the next morning when I got up early for my coffee, she is so very kind. By the time we were finished with breakfast and went back to our room or beds had been made towels replaced and everything was freshened up. We were able to walk to downtown Natchitoches for our evening meal one night and it was a very close and very peaceful walk. I would recommend this bed-and-breakfast very highly. Thank you Miss Laverne for such a pleasing,...
Read moreMet up with friends from Texas for a couple of days in Nachitoches. We have had the most wonderful time! The house is quite lovely, impeccably decorated, luxurious and comfortable. The view of the Cane River Lake is beautiful both from the large porch in the back of the house and the dock below. We spent the majority of the first afternoon on the dock visiting, drinking wine and enjoying the cool breeze on the dock. Then, we moved up to the porch to continue. These areas are so inviting, you just don't want to leave!
Our suite downstairs had a large living area (library room) with a table, chairs with a comfy couch and club chair with ottoman. Perfect for reading and enjoying morning coffee. The bathroom with double jacuzzi tub was a nice touch as well! And things only got better... we woke up the first morning to a blueberry bread pudding starter and full eggs Benedict for breakfast!!! O M G!!! Then, morning number 2, apple strudel waffles!!! Wow....
Everyone, from the inn keeper (Liz), the housekeeper (Cynthia), the grounds keeper (Robert) and the owner (Tod) were friendly, professional, knowledgeable and welcoming! We are already making plans to go back! Thank you for an...
