Fans of history will enjoy this museum and the Tyron Palace tour. The tour of the interior was about an hour long. I enjoyed our excellent guide “the Englishman” who was both knowledgeable and comedic. The grounds are well kept and I enjoyed walking the gardens on a sunny but chilly December day. Not sure that I would recommend this for very young children, but historically curious kids who are entertained by learning would likely enjoy this visit. The gift shop has a nice selection of interesting trinkets and books. The indoor museum galleries offer interesting facts and perspectives on the natural and human history of the area. I spent about 3 hours here, including the 1 hr palace tour, as an individual. I would visit again to read the galleries in further detail.

Traveled down to Morehead, NC (first visit to this area) from the mountains to celebrate my birthday. On 5/17/24, we visited Tryon Palace, on advise from some friends who were originally from New Bern. Unfortunately, most everything was not open, including the gardens. We were able to visit the Gift Store, and walk down to the water's edge. We are hoping to come back another time. New Bern is a great town full of friendly people. Enjoyed our visit there very much!!

Super, super informative history museum. I literally spent a few hours here watching the film they have playing in rotation, listening to actual depictions of individuals from James City, and any other interactive gadgets I could find. I read every single word this museum had to offer. I had the absolute best time ever! I was at a place of historical contentment.

We went to see Hamiltunes. It was a free event hosted by the palace and performed by the civic center. It was a sing-a-long. Itwas a great time. Now while there they passed around a membership pamphlet. The prices for single start at $75 and go to 1000+. The prices for an average family $150. (2 adults with two kids under 18). The prices where high for what you got. I live less then 15 mins away and have to full price to go. No incentive or cheaper price for those in county or even in city limits. Free events happen but it's never during peak time when stuff is blooming. Prices normally 20 for adults 10 for grades 1-12. Still high for only a days activity. What would bring in more people? Lowered amount on admission and lower amount on memebership for key demographic( family) and a special price those in the area. I have lived here 10 years gone 3 times. 2 free events one paid....

Decent in North Carolina museum. This needs a little touchup on how things are presented. Lot of empty space and reading, very little looking (that may be just because things are growing or COVID). The general NC exhibit just needs to go. Focus on New Bern and let Raleigh/Outer Banks tell the entire states' story. They have more funding and more general audiences. Tourists in New Bern want to know about New Bern. Instead of trying to tell the whole NC story, focus on New Bern's journey through time. Do you realize how hard it was to find out why there was so many bears around town? That should have been front and center stage. Trust me, WNC doesn't have a...
