Just home from a wonderful stay with the lovely folks at Terry House. The location was so convenient to the historic area of New Castle. Easily walkable to historic sites, a walk along The Battery, interesting shop and delicious dining. I was checking on some family history in the area and this was a good spot to rest our heads after a day of pounding the pavement (or bricks and cobblestone!). We had two rooms since the length of our stay overlapped a busy weekend. So we can tell you that both rooms were special. Room 5 was smaller in both bedroom and bath area, but it had all we needed. I has some work to do at by computer, so nice to have a desk to work on. All rooms had A/C. In October, it was still needed during the day, but we shut them off at night. Ceiling fans were all we needed. Room 1 was much larger, more than we needed, but the large suite was nice to stretch out in. The bathroom was also much larger and with two windows was lovely to let the sun in. |This hotel was so clean and dust-free! Not many older B&B structures can boast that, so kudos to the staff! Another plus was that, for the most part, the inn was quiet. Being that it's an old space, maybe with original floorboards, the stairs do make some noise, but it never bothered us. |A Keurig coffee maker is available in the large, comfortable living area. A variety of coffee flavors, but only hazelnut Coffeemate. Would appreciate non-flavored half-n-half and dairy free is helpful, too. Would love to see them add breakfast in the future. Even a self-serve continental would be nice sine the only nearby cafe doesn't open till 9 am. We got around this by buying baked good/yogurt the night before and storing in room fridge. The living area is a nice place to eat those in. Also enjoyed visiting with other guests at the coffee bar.|Hope to come again. Even though the process is without a host present (contactless), they were very responsive to texts. All...
Read moreI was able to book a room a couple hours in advance and James was friendly and flexible with the check-in time. I'm really glad I chose to stay in Old New Castle. It is almost frozen in time and not commercialized (e.g. no Starbucks). Cities like Boston or NY have similar neighborhoods but they're noisier, busier, not as tranquil. It's a pleasant stroll walking around town, even if it's not big you can see something you missed when passing by again. Nice dining options available. I got ice cream at Jessops--lingonberry!, tea at Mercury, salad at Nora Lee, and definitely check out Dream Bakery for some bread, if not just to smell. Parking was easy and the house was very quiet at night to sleep. I was in the pink room which was a little stuffy. There is a fan and window a/c but a little noisy for me. I opened a window but zero breeze came thru. Otherwise comfy bed, nice bath amenities. There is no breakfast and nothing walking distance opens til 9am. Would be nice to have some bfast bar items to eat for early AMs (maybe Dream Bakery some day, James is their landlord I think!). Sometimes I suggest to proprietors of historic buildings to have a photo book of past photos or even renovation ones so guests can learn more about the building...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about this house. Ms Deemer is adorable and such a nice lady! Sue, the woman who booked us in, is so sweet and helpful and just a wealth of knowledge. The house itself is amazing. Exactly as I imagined an original east coast house to look like. It was quiet and everything worked just as it should in it. The town of Olde New Castle is also amazing. Everything in walking distance and so. much. history! We spent our entire evening walking around the town and checking out the sites of historical importance and finished off at Jessops Tavern. The next morning we had an amazing breakfast made by Sue and chatted with another couple who were staying there around a huge beautiful table in the dining room and then set out to see the museum. Just amazing. We still tell everyone we know about how amazing this house was and about Ms Deemer and all the history we found out about during our stay. When we return to that area of the US we will be booking more nights at...
