Long review!! Pool is nice. They had live music on Friday around lunch and a comedy show sometime after 8pm. Dianna is who you want to speak to at reception. She provided a truly simple and easy Marriott experience. Outside of hotel is charming.
They have rooms with no view, partial view and oceanfront, with/without balcony. The oceanfront rooms also have a direct view of the pool.
The location of the building is PERFECT. You can easily walk right onto the beach after passing through the pool area. You can also walk right onto Flagler Avenue. There is also a vehicle beach access at the end of Flagler for you beach parking needs. There is a 7/11 directly across the street for convenience.
We were told that the hotel couldn’t guarantee an early check-in via the Bon Voy app around 10:30am on check-in day...and at 12:30pm when we walked inside the hotel to speak to the staff. This was due to them being over-booked and other factors. We decided to enjoy the pool and beach until we received a call that our room was ready. Luckily, we were able to get into a room a little bit earlier, but I’m not exactly sure of the reason.
If you are early, you get a blue card to give you access to the elevators/interior-exterior doors/and to park in the 1 floor garage. The clearance is something just over 8ft. The elevator can be slow at times in the garage.
The 2 Queen bedroom with a sleeper sofa was enough for my party of 4 to stay in for 2 nights. I have back issues, so I was planning to sleep on the sleeper sofa. WARNING! - DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT plan on having an adult sleep on the pull out bed. It is basically paper with springs between and ours did not come pre-made. I ended up having to lay my bedding over the actual couch cushions and, while that was “better”, it was also uncomfortable.
If I stay here again, I will just book my own room I think so I can have a bed; however, even the beds are not as comfy as I expected. They are stiff and probably work for a lot of people, just not me. In the 2 Queens/1 sofa room layout, the TV is in an awkward position, placed between the sofa and the bed closest to the entry door.
The bathroom was clean, but there weren’t enough towels upon check-in for 4 people, so we asked for more and they gave us some. The bedding (sheets/comforter) was scratchy and not as soft as I had hoped. The pillows (foam) were more on the thin side, which I liked, but I know some people need more neck support. They will provide extra pillows and blankets, etc however, upon request.
The laundry is $3 total for 1 wash/dry. They have a fire pit out back; get there early for a spot. The best part of the hotel is the bar downstairs and the Starbucks. The lobby is inviting and clean.
Breakfast: now serving HOT breakfast and dry breakfast. I noticed that on Friday night there were VERY browned bananas. On Saturday morning, around 8:30am, there were no bananas. Kind of disappointed at the lack of vegan options. They had Dairy-Free muffins galore, but they had eggs in them. So, all I could eat from downstairs was cereal (with my own milk that I brought), whole wheat toast, a bagel, an orange and various juices.
Noise: While sleeping on the sofa, I heard hallway doors slam, people running, yelling, upstairs, LOUD bass rumbling from the air unit I suspect and various other noises. It is not a place for the noise-sensitive like me, and especially if you go to bed early and have a oceanfront room. The toilet in our room, and apparently the adjacent room as well, also needs maintenance because it makes a loud screeching noise when flushed, making it impossible for anyone to flush it at night.
Overall, I’m giving it 3 stars because it lacked a lot of the things that a hotel that costs $250/night should have at this point in the traveling world, but Dianna was really nice, so it gets to keep 3 stars.
Carpet in rooms of kind of drab and old looking. The room wasn’t stocked with enough coffee for 4 people for even 1 morning so we had to...
Read moreEven though the young man at the front desk was so incredibly helpful and concerned about my family's comfort and safety we could never stay in this hotel again and I would encourage others not to either. There are some serious design flaws that are causing constant water damage/moisture problems and there is visible microbial growth around the A/C units. This is a danger to guest's health. My 2 daughters and I paid the price for one night stay... I was informed that we were not the first family that was unable to find a room in the hotel that did not have water damage and visible mold growth. They also admitted that the management and maintenance knew about this problem but it is a substantial amount of work to remediate the damage and they said they would be working on it. To be specific about what we found...the first room we checked into had standing water under the window AC unit. I could see that the unit was dripping onto the floor and that a section of vinyl flooring was cut out so that it could drip directly onto the concrete underneath (maybe so that the concrete could soak it up). However it could not absorb fast enough and the water was pooling and going underneath the flooring. There was visible mold growth. We went to the front desk to request to be moved and he was happy to accommodate. We carried our things to the next room and opened the door to a very strong musty smell and it was obvious that room was even worse. I quickly observed the mold growth and warped building materials around the AC unit. The base material at the wall was falling away and you could see the mold growth behind it. Same situation with the flooring cut out to allow dripping onto concrete and water pooling underneath flooring. This time I explained to the front desk that my children and I are genetically sensitive to mold and this is why it is a higher concern to me than you average guest. The young man explained that he knew of some rooms that might be safer because they had this problem earlier that week. He said he would personally inspect a few rooms and be back shortly. On his return he said there were a couple rooms with balconies that he believed to be free of water/mold damage and we could also open the doors to get fresh air exchange in the room. When he escorted us up to the room it did not have any visible mold growth and it had a different type of AC unit that was enclosed in a utility closet. We didn't smell the typical musty odor that sometimes accompanies mold and it was late so we left the door open and checked in. I woke up very early to a headache and the feeling of a chest-cold and knew that this risk was a mistake. I used a coin to remove the vent door on the AC closet and was horrified by the standing water on the ground and black mold growth. We got out immediately. This may not make your family as sick as it made mine but I guarantee you will notice a feeling of brain fog, allergy and sinus symptoms, headache, etc. This hotel is very new and it is a real shame because I generally trust Marriott to take care of there properties. Very disappointing and upsetting to watch my children suffer because of...
Read moreWhere to begin? We were told days before check-in that an early check-in was on our account and would be absolutely no problem (traveling with a toddler so this kinda matters). Well, it was a problem. Room wasn't ready. Ok, that happens.
We also requested two pack n plays (one for each room). They weren't available when we arrived. Eventually the hotel turned up one. We made it work. So far we're 0/2 on our check-in requests, despite us confirming by phone that these things would be available to us days prior to coming.
Elevators? It's a 4 story hotel with parking below, so 5 levels total. 2 elevators, one of which never worked (no out of order signage, just never worked). A couple told me they'd stayed last summer and it didn't work then, either. So because there's only one elevator and it has to serve both rooms and parking, it was basically always at least a 5 minute wait. Forget running up to your room real quick to grab something. Luckily I'm in good shape so I just took 4 flights of stairs multiple times of day. But be aware if you need the elevator and don't want to spend a lot of your holiday waiting on it.
Laundry? We needed that, so again we verified that those services are onsite and operational. Problem is they're coin operated, and the front desk will only give you coins if you hand them folding money. They "don't have any way" to charge it to your room or your card, despite literally being able to charge drinks, snacks, sunscreen, etc to both your room and your card. If you travel without cash or debit card (as many people in 2024 do), understand that this service won't be available to you and the manager, Jamie, will make zero effort to help you. Jamie, you do understand that you're in the hospitality business, right? Luckily another guest who was at the front desk to complain about their poor stay was nice enough to give me 6 dollars for laundry.
Rooms? Our beach view was lovely, but in the 4 days we were there no one ever cleaned our room. Trash wasn't taken out, beds weren't made, none of that. We didn't have a do not disturb sign out ever, they just flat out didn't clean it. So if you care about that be aware.
Pool? We had a great time in the pool with our kiddo! We even stayed through Monday to spend more time, except on Monday they shut the pool down for half a day without any advance warning or notice whatsoever. So that's something else to be aware of.
Service? Our last morning at breakfast, the manager came over to tell me I have to wear shoes while eating. I was in my swim suit, about to swim. Ok, cool, probably just a rule that I missed. But wait, is there anything posted anywhere in the lobby saying shoes are required? Nope. Did the manager speak to any of the other guests in there without shoes during that breakfast service? Nope. Was he just being a jerk to me because he knew I was already upset about the laundry situation? You tell me.
Takeaways: phenomenal location, unbelievably poorly run and managed hotel. From a frequent traveler I want to make sure everyone is aware of exactly how badly this location is run, make an informed decision when it's...
