I stayed at the Harbor House Bed and Breakfast a few nights ago. I am a woman and was traveling alone. The hotel is located conveniently at the end of Hylan Blvd. on Staten Island, across from the historical Alice Austen House and a few minute walk from the s51 bus stop on Hylan Blvd. and Bay Street. When I got to the hotel I noticed right away that is was very quaint and old-fashioned, it reminded me a lot of the inside of the Conference House as the rooms are furnished and looked like they have not been touched since the 1700s-1800s-very early 1900s which adds to the mystique and very hard to find today old-world charm. At first I was supposed to be in a king room with a shared bathroom that I had booked through an online site. When I got to the room I noticed there was no physical lock on the door, you had to pull it shut and it locked on its own. When I expressed my concern about this to the owner he was very understanding and was extremely friendly and more than accommodating. He promptly moved me to another room which appeared to be a suite, which included a lock on the door, it had its own bathroom and even had its own sitting area where I could look out the window at breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline and the Verrazano Bridge on both sides. The Bed and Breakfast also includes breakfast in the morning, if for whatever reason guests do not want the breakfast they can be refunded $10 by the manager. I have included pictures from the view from my room. I had a good nights sleep, a very comfortable stay and beautiful views to make it a once in a lifetime experience and memory. Would definitely recommend, especially to celebrate for a special occasion with a loved one or to experience a historical adventure whether you are coming from far or are close to home.

I stayed here for 3 nights on my way back to JFK after traveling around east coast cities. Everything at the B&B is basic but meets my needs. The manager, Moe, allowed me to use their bike which brought me lots of joy. With the bike, I rode to the Staten ferry to Manhattan. It’s located in a residential area next to the water, across from Manhattan. So one can see Manhattan from the house. There are quite a few restaurants and markets nearby. It looks like a quite safe area, and I parked my car on the street in front of the house for 3 days with no problem. The place is convenient if you fly in/out from JFK and plan to visit NYC with no need to struggle in the traffic.

Although I did not get to stay for breakfast, I had a great one night stay here. The caretaker was incredibly kind and upgraded my room free of charge upon arrival. Although there is only street parking, there was ample availability. The room itself was very clean and had a stunning view of the harbor and city. I slept with the windows open and got to listen to the waves crash against the shore all night! For the price, location, and customer service, I would absolutely stay again.

If I could give no stars OR NEGATIVE STARS I would.. this one star is super generous and only because of yelp . First, i will start by saying, my Fiance and I didn't even get a chance to stay here, so this review is only based on the horrible customer service. We accidentally double booked our weekend, as we were both trying to surprise each other. So he calls to see if he can change the date or cancel the room. The nasty manager tells him no, we can't change the date and if we want to cancel they will STILL charge us for both nights. So, rather than have him lose the money we decide to keep the plans and go. Fast forward a few hours and we call ahead to let them know we are on our way ( as this is customary for a B&B). The nasty manager tells us, well he decided re book our room with someone else, and switch our reservation to the following weekend. No call, no email or anything... mind you we are in the car, in route to this place!! At this point, my Fiance is now seething mad! Next weekend wont work for us, how dare you tell us NO, then change it on your own to the weekend that you see fit?!?!?!? Then, the rude manager proceeds to tell us that he's " doing us a favor because he didn't have to move it, he could have just kept our money".. UMM EXCUSE ME!!! The nerve of this place! First off this place looks like an absolute DUMP, it needs to be renovated, new bedding and a good hazmat suit to give it a scrub down!! The ONLY reasons we were even entertaining this place was because the Victorian house was sold out and the the views The Harbor House provides. Oh but it gets better...so as we are having this back and forth over the phone..nasty manager starts to raise his voice at me. I tell him , as calmly as possible, not to raise his voice as I am a woman, and i'm not disrespecting you. This JERK tells me " if you don't like it have your husband call me" and hangs up the phone!!! So not only did he TAKE OUR MONEY, give away our room and then re book us for the following weekend WITHOUT our consent, he adds insult to injury by disrespecting me over the phone and hanging up on me!! I have NEVER been so disrespected and treated so disgustingly by any establishment or company and its insane that there is no one to report his behavior!! Not only did he tell us he re booked our room and made the money back, but refused to give us our money back. I get it, all places have policies about changes and cancellations, but the way we were treated is unacceptable!!!! I will advise EVERYONE to stay away from this place by all accounts. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME MONEY...

Update....will leave at 3 stars. For the price, it may be quite reasonable to have the lack of niceties that I note below. So...updating to 3 stars.

Original post= So sorry. I have to put 2stars because there was no AC in the room... It's July. Hot and humid. Adorable and cute room but I could not sleep because it was so warm. Found a fan in the foyer and brought it into the room. Slept right in front of it, lol.

This should not be listed as a hotel/bed and breakfaat in my opinion, it's more like an air BNB, hostel-esque situation. Towels are provided...and yes coffee bar and light breakfast. I enjoyed an evening cup of coffee on the patio...but general cleanliness and condition is not superb. Sub par, like an average working family household that forgets to wash off the bird poop on the front lawn chair... Again, room was o.k. bathroom is shared, tub did not look clean. I wore my slides into the shower...

I think the folks here could have something REALLY nice going for them, it just doesn't seem that the cleaning energy or special little touch/effort is made.

What would've made this a four star

Air conditioning, OR at the very least, let your guests know over the confirmation email or over the phone call, (which I did call to let them know when I was coming) and ensure that there were extra fans available, especially in the summertime. Little bottles of shampoo and conditioner just because that makes it feel like a real hotel. Only bar soap and two clean towels were provided. -CLEAN the tub/shower. At least deep clean once a week. Your guests will notice. dust...clean off the dust -add a single little chocolate or something (maybe not chocolate cuz it was so warm. Let's say a candy...) with a little note that says thank you for coming or a stamp that says harbor House. Honestly it's the little things -Clean off the outside chairs...there is one out front that reminded me of home and I was so excited to sit in it but I couldn't as it was covered in bird poop. -some way to obtain water...maybe get the jug refills by Alhambra and place in the kitchen. It's nice to have water (or bottles to buy).

EXCELLENT view of the harbor. No complaints at all there. I was just very surprised by the "bare bones" type of stay for it being called a hotel.

Great price I suppose for harbor view and last minute quick stay over in the area ..about 100$-128 total, for a night on a Thursday...but with all those things listed above, barely felt worth it.

Kind host...wish them better prosperity...

I called August 18th to book some dates starting 10/31. The woman I spoke with stated that my reservation had been completed. I asked if I needed to do a deposit or give payment info as I was eager to book. She said it was not needed, but she recommended that I call closer to my dates just to confirm everything before I arrive. I thought this was weird but due to it being mom and pop I thought nothing of it. On September 3rd I get a call from Mo that I missed while I was at work, he left a VM stating that I was supposed to call back which was not what the woman told me and that he would cancel my reservation. Since that VM I’ve called back a lot and no answer to both phone numbers. I emailed them and also no response. My friend that lives in Staten Island decided to call for me and they picked up his call and took my contact info. This bothered me so I called right after and explained what happened when I made the reservation. There was no apology. He even said my friend gave him the wrong number and that he would’ve been calling the wrong number for that reason making it seem like it was our fault when they’ve had my number this entire time. I was amazed that he did not try to get this resolved immediately as it was their fault. He told me he will try to work something out but that he was too busy to today and tomorrow and will call me in a couple days. Who does business like this? I feel as though my calls, VMs and emails were getting purposefully ignored. I spoke to this man in a respectful manner but he seemed very defensive. No ownership whatsoever. I can’t stay somewhere that avoids answering their phones or resolving issues. What if the day of my arrival they don’t pick up? I don’t get the logic and they don’t seem to want my business. Be careful with this place. The reviews are misleading. I now have to look for another place to stay because I refuse to give these people my money. As someone who has worked in hospitality/hotel industry for years I was amazed by this. Didn’t want to write this review but have to...
