We stayed here for four nights. Price to value, it's hard to beat. You get way more than you pay for.
I read a lot of reviews for hotels before I booked. I'm a very analytical person, so I like to have as much information as possible when spending money. I'm going to go through and address the same topics as many other reviews, kind of as a response to those reviews.
Breakfast - Didn't eat breakfast here.
Parking - Didn't park here.
Safety - You're as safe as you can be in NYC. The area might seem a little sketchy just by looking at it, but if you look at a NYC crime map, the Bronx is actually pretty safe comparably. It's certainly better than Queens or Brooklyn. Add to that proximity to a major tourist location and you're pretty secure. The Bronx isn't really a tourist destination by itself, so it doesn't look as clean and crisp as Manhattan. You're fine.
Noise - City noise was fine. We didn't have a problem with it. Turn your tv on low while you sleep, you won't even notice it. Now, cleaning sounds on the other hand... The cleaning crews need to close doors rather than letting them slam behind them. It's a real problem. We're awake as soon as the cleaning starts, because they can be loud. Not a deal breaker, but definitely noticeable. This is the only really negative thing I have to say, and it's a problem at lots of hotels, not just here.
Cleanliness - Super clean. The staff are always working. Our room was cleaned both days that we didn't leave the DND sign up. Every time we came in or left, somebody was cleaning something. To the guy who's freshly mopped floor I walked on while he was mopping it. I wasn't thinking and my wife slapped me for it as soon as we were in the elevator. I am sorry.
Location - Close to Yankee's. Close to a subway station. What more could you want?
Staff - Seemed like they employed real people who are allowed to be themselves at work, which made everyone happier to be there. Everyone was accommodating. They fulfilled every request we had. They seem to just want you to enjoy yourself, and why wouldn't they? Nobody likes getting complaints, it makes work harder. A manager was behind the desk while we were there once, and she seemed extremely accommodating and friendly. You can tell that she is genuine and wants what's best for the guests. They were all professional.
Overall, a great place to stay if you're visiting. Worth way more...
Read moreStayed in New York for two nights following a transatlantic cruise, and before making our way on to Boston. This represented good value for money, compared to more central hotels, and for the cost of a few dollars, and a twenty minute express ride on metro line 4 you could be in Manhattan. The station was within view from the hotel, a few minutes walk away. ||The staff were excellent, helpful and happy. They obviously enjoyed working there. | |They were good enough to allow us to check in three hours early, which we greatly appreciated. ||Breakfast was good, with a nice selection of cooked food. You were limited to thirty minutes a sitting and had to clear your own table afterwards, which we had no problem with. The breakfast room was a little busy, and tight for space, so that policy helped keep things ticking over.||The neighbourhood isn't the best but at no time did we feel unsafe. The police precinct is a few blocks away. | |The only real downside was - in fact - almost comical. We had a top floor, street facing room.... and the noise from outside at various times of the first night was INCREDIBLE. Music blaring out at 4 am at an INSANE level for a time, before stopping. We were returning from a day out the next evening and passed a hall directly across from the hotel - which was renting out its space to what appeared to be a religious order. The door was propped open and an enormous ghetto blaster was just inside the foyer pointing out to the street...pumping out music at the same level. We can only assume they were the culprits from the previous night, before the police had maybe swung by and told them to pipe down. ||The lovely hotel reception staff do offer guests ear plugs. But because of this one problem, I couldn't rate the overall experience any higher. I would, however,...
Read moreBooked a room and paid when booking for a Saturday night. Called and asked if I could add Friday night at the same rate and was told I'd have to pay over $500 to add an additional night. Would not honor the same rate and I was told they were "high in demand" for Friday night so had to book another hotel for that night. Even though it was communicated upon arrival the room was already paid, I was still double charged. Was told a manager was not available until Monday and that I needed to email them to resolve the issue. When I called on Monday was told I wasn't double charged again until I said I'm looking at my bank statement as we speak. Yes I most certainly was double charged. Management did realize the mistake, apologized, and refunded the money.
PROS: 10 minute walk to Yankee Stadium. Clean rooms, amazing shower, nice bed, TV, offer breakfast, very reasonable parking IF YOU CAN GET A SPACE.
CONS: assigned to a room directly across from the Housekeeping suite. Could hear the door opening and closing all hours of the early morning from the Housekeeping Suite and was disruptive, hard to sleep with constant noise. Parking is $20 a day but we were told parking was not available upon arrival so I had to park my car in a 24 hour lot across the street 2 blocks away, very inconvenient. There are only 12 parking spaces available to accommodate all of their guests so parking is an issue.
The front staff advertise that breakfast is available from 6:30-10:30 am. We arrived at 10 am and they were completely out of pancakes, bacon, sausage and juice. They were cleaning all of the dishes and we were told they would not put anymore food out for guests so that was disappointing. They had a spoonful of scrambled eggs left, apples, yogurt, and bagels. Coffee...
