Hotel OPUS Bronx — Hotel in New York

The stay was a bit disappointing even without factoring in the $200 cost for one night. "Non smoking" room smelled strongly of cigarettes. Being a former smoker myself I'm not exactly averse to the odor, but I was actually feeling ill after being in the room for some time it was so strong. When I asked the front desk if the room was smoking or non smoking, I was told it was a smoking room. When I informed them I booked a non smoking room, the staff then told me it was a non smoking room. When I pointed out, literally 10 seconds prior, they said it was a smoking room, they said they would send housekeeping, who did then arrive with some can of deodorizing spray which he applied to the carpets as if we were inside a giant bowling shoe. I pointed out to the gentleman that the smoke detector was missing from the room and its bare wires were hanging from the ceiling, I was told "it's okay" and that was all that came of that. I don't think they would have even had an extra smoke detector on the premises to supply much less know how to install it but I guess, since it was a non smoking room, there's no need to worry about smoke or fire. Hand soap was intended to be dispensed by a wall unit of some kind, as was the body wash strangely enough, but both units were missing from our bathroom - seemingly ripped out of the walls during a previous stay. We were provided with the plastic refill bottles for those dispensers to use. Thankfully we brought our own toiletries. Our bathroom was also lacking a toilet paper holder, so we had to leave the roll on the outside handle for the shower as if we were in an outhouse. We were also only provided a half used roll. Though it is probably inferred at this point, I will also point out there was no shampoo or conditioner provided. Nowhere to place items in the shower unless you don't mind leaving your items on the floor. The blacklight in the room was a unique touch. No option for brighter lighting in the room though, just the blacklight and a dim room light. I wouldn't book multiple nights here, for one night it could be worse. If you are younger and/or not so averse to crunchier accomodations you'll probably be fine. Just don't fool yourself this is no hotel, it is a motel. Maybe in a year or so they will be better. Not too far from the zoo or...

Would never stay here again. Room smelled disgusting like cigarettes. Cleaning ladys dont know how to clean properly. Should be fired in my opinion. Everyone going in and out the room make alot of noise. Smoking in front of my door and talking loud. Smell would travel into the room. Stains on floor and walls. I stayed for about 3 days and would not recommened that. This place is just for a quick hour or two to do your business and get out. Also looks recently remodeled and all that work looks half assed. There also was dead flys and mosquitos in the room everyday. Even in the shower stall. Shower would leak out near the toilet due to poor caulking near the wall. No shelves in the shower stall to hold soaps or bottles. I also had to buy clorox wipes to wipe everything down. Very unacceptable. You can tell this place is just here making a quick buck off from people and dont care about improving...

If you are traveling with you family and want to feel safe this is NOT the place for you. Hotel is actually a disgusting motel that appears to be set up more for hourly encounters than people actually looking for lodging. The smoke free room smelled of cigarettes and had an ashtray on the small desk. The door lock on the handle did not work and the latch i was able to push open from outside my room. This hotel has a no refunds policy, PLEASE SEE THE ROOM BEFORE YOU PAY THESE PEOPLE. Honestly, i would have ran from this place if i saw the room prior to booking. Expedia pics, reviews, etc. . . should all be considered fraudulent. This place is a dump, we felt unsafe and left the next day to another hotel. Ceiling was covered in brown spots, maybe an exploded soda? EXPEDIA should also share blame as the reviews and listing make it seem nice, the 1 star google...
