This classic Brooklyn row house is full of art, interesting furniture and rugs, and natural light. What makes the place so special is the abundance of original paintings throughout and the comfortable, eclectic mix of furnishings. Some are by Paul or Jan Gorlach (hosts) but most are unsigned mysteries. Most of the house is in it's original state with lovely old details. It is right across from Prospect Park in a convenient location. || We were on the second floor which has a lovely large bedroom, a private bath a few steps down the hall, and a large dine-in kitchen with a view of the garden. This rooms are off a hall open to the stair well so it is not a private suite that can be locked off but you do not share the rooms with anyone else and the bedroom locks.|| Do not bother if you are a fan of generic hotels, need absolute privacy, or fluffy white towels. Bring your earplugs or white noise if you are used to quiet because there is a busy street in front and a train in back. Do book this if you love unique spaces, art, and spacious comfort.||Breakfast was a do-it-yourself bread and fruit with jam and butter, but it would be easy to buy a few eggs and use the kitchen to cook them.||I will stay here again--I loved it--but definitely with eggs...

This is a private residence and the manager Paul was rude, dismissive and offensive. His communication leading up to the stay was sporadic and shady at best. Still, we moved ahead hoping the stay would work out. We let him know we'd be checking in after 9pm and when we called at 9pm to tell him we'd be another hour, and to understand how to check in, he accused us of being "immature flakes who don't know how to navigate the world." He berated us for calling him late (you run a hotel - is 9pm late?!) and threated to lock the doors so we couldn't check in. When I asked if there was a front desk, or lock box or code we could use to get in, he said 'only idiots don't know how to use a door bell.' In the end I was so taken aback by 20 mins of him yelling at me that we decided to find a hotel nearby. Do yourself a favor and just book something else now. As you can tell from many of these other reviews you'll regret booking this place either before, during or after...
