My partner and I were fortunate to stay at the Pestana Park Avenue for 10 nights in late May. We made the special trip to New York City for my 30th birthday and the staff at the Pestana made it the most memorable experience - one I will never ever forget! We loved every minute of our stay there and there’s no doubt we will be returning on our next visit to New York City. ||When looking for a hotel to stay in Midtown we were very impressed with all of the reviews of the Pestana Park Avenue - they were exceptional! Excellent service and staff, central location yet quiet and comfortable were the main reasons we booked our stay at the hotel. It’s safe to say that our stay at the Pestana Park Avenue exceeded our expectations! ||Central location |The hotel is located in a very central and convenient location for site sighting. Grand Central Station is approximately a 5-minute walk away which was fantastic when using the subway to get around Manhattan and the other boroughs, even JFK Airport. The hotel is centrally located but further enough away from the busiest areas of Midtown. ||Room amenities |As you’d expect most rooms in Manhattan are small. However, the rooms are cleverly designed which I really appreciated. For instance, at the end of the bed is an open slot to put suitcases away and out of sight. This meant we never tripped over our belongings. Each side of the bed also had one very deep and large drawer that allowed us to store all of our clothing away. There was enough space to open and close the drawers under the bed comfortably. The nightstands were on the wall and had USB ports to place a phone charger. The bathroom was small which meant that the sink was located in the bedroom. At first I thought it was strange, however after staying 10 nights I learnt it was very clever. It meant I was able to use the sink and get ready in the morning while my partner was in the shower. What a win - no frizzy hair from the steam! ||The room was equipped with a hairdryer, a handheld steam iron, tissues, VOSS water bottle, a fridge and a Nespresso pod coffee machine. ||The bed was super comfortable and the rooms were always keep clean. The room was extremely quiet as the walls were sound proof. It was so delightful to enjoy sleep and rest without the sounds of the city waking us up as we know NY can be noisy! ||In the hotel lobby there was even a Starbucks coffee machine available to use, bagels and croissants in the morning as well as fruit and water. We loved making our coffee and having a quick bite to eat every morning. There was always plenty of seating indoors and in the cute outdoor courtyard. All areas were always very clean too. ||All of these little touches really made us feel like we were staying in our home away from home. The environment and hotel ammenities allowed us to create a comfortable routine during our long stay. We also just loved walking back in after a long day out. The reception was cool (a contrast from the Summer heat), filled with lots of light and was so very welcoming. We also loved the artwork ☺️||Excellent service and staff|Every single time we left or returned back to our room, we were always greeted by a staff member and engaged in friendly chat. We felt that the team genuinely cared about our day and our trip and were always so happy and excited to hear about our daily adventures. ||To my surprise, our room was upgraded to a city view on my 30th birthday. I also received a hand drawn birthday card (done by Gregory) from Pestana, my favourite chocolates and a birthday hat. It was such a kind and special gesture that I am very appreciative of and will never ever forget. ||Our stay at the Pestana Park Avenue exceeded our expectations well beyond what we imagined! I can’t wait for our next trip to NYC. It will be super easy to organise as I know where we’ll be staying, 100% at the Pestana Park Avenue - there is no where else we’d...

Read moreI booked this hotel to celebrate a milestone birthday in New York City. I was attending a concert at Madison Square Garden and I wanted something centrally located but not in the heart of midtown or Times Square.
What I like? Location - 39th between Madison and Park Avenue (closer to Madison). There are restaurants, wine and liquor stores in a 1 block radius Price - 2 nights less than $500. Pretty good for NYC standards! Staff - Everyone was so helpful and accommodating regardless of their title or position Room - The room I eventually settled in was a nice size. It came with a fridge which came in handy for a bottle of champagne I wanted to chill and food I wanted to preserve. Another feature I valued was the full length mirror. A minor but valued feature. There's a full size bathroom but the sink is on the outside of the bathroom in the room - an odd but valued feature. Food Delivery - Deliveries were easy here. When I missed the call, the staff let the delivery person leave my food at reception.
What I didn't like? Room Offerings - I don't know how I did it but I chose the "Special Offer" that landed me bunk beds designed for two teenage kids. I was strapped for time because I got to the city just a few hours before the concert and I really wanted to unwind, shower and change and get to the concert in time to see the opening act. Making a room change made that challenging. I'm glad I went down to the front desk to ask because the bunk beds were not going to do it.
Booking: Be careful with booking. Make sure you get what you're expecting, as "Special Offers" can land you with a room built for a child.
Amenities: This boutique hotel has two elevators that stay in demand. The complimentary breakfast goes fast. First come, first serve. Get up early if you expect to partake. There's a microwave in the kitchen along with a coffee machine. It's all complimentary.
Driving: Drivers plan to use a garage. NYC has changed so much over the years. A few years back, in most neighborhoods, you could park on the street as long as it wasn't street cleaning. No more. It's ridiculous. I found a garage at 38 East 36th Street, a short walk from the hotel.
Accessibility: Because you're on the east side, most tourist activity is on the west side. In NYC, the avenues are equivalent to about 2-3 normal blocks so the walk from Madison to Broadway or 7th or 8th Avenues can be a lengthy one.
Safety: I am a solo traveler. I always feel safe in NYC. This hotel was no exception. I traveled back and forth to the hotel by foot and Uber at night without any issues.
Views: The views here suck. If you want stunning views, Pestana Park is not the hotel for you.
Would I return? Yeah, no. If I did, I would definitely pay closer attention to the small print. There are a ton of hotels in NYC. For what you get, this hotel definitely...
