Elegant G Barber Shop — Local services in New York

Went here. Was “greeted” by bald guy and a beard. He didn’t say single word to me the whole time, was rude with bad behavior. The sign outside $30 for haircut $15 for beard. When he finished he asked me for $60! I asked why, he said $30 for too $30 for bottom. I said it clearly says $15 for beard outside. I then talked to the blonde lady who said something to him. He spoke to her rudely and kept calling me cheap in his language to her. Even after she corrected him, he still charged me $50 for my haircut. It should have been $45 I was going to give a $5 tip anyways. Safe to say I did not leave any tip for this bald bearded man in white shirt who tried to rip me off.

I have been going to this chain for over a year. Staff has changed a bit at this location, and recently I'm not always sure I'll get the quality of a haircut I expect. I'm okay with some level of creative liberty, but I'll occasionally get a haircut that looks very different from the usual even though I give the same instructions every time. I also tend to be quiet and let the barber do their job since I don't know haircutting myself, so it's usually after too much is cut-off that I realize something is off.

It would be great if you could book appointments online with a specific barber so I can pick who cuts my hair and avoid barbers whose style doesn't fit me. It's currently...

Other than the owner Sam, Faruq was always my go-to guy at the first location of Elegant G in Murray Hill, and I'm so glad he's anchoring this new location. I've been going to the other location for 6 years since it opened, and it's nice to have another option closer to work. Faruq is meticulous about asking for and getting to want you want (especially if that's a clean fade), and also happens to be fun to talk to during the cut to keep things interesting. Though I've never had a problem with him in particular, make sure to let him know if there's anything you don't like while in the chair, and I'm sure he'd be...
