Not to knock off everyone’s experience but I had a great experience with my consulate! I applied for my dual citizenship because I met the requirements through my parents. My experience was excellent! From calling the consulate general number to schedule an appointment, to getting the correct information on what paperwork I need, to going to my appointment and doing my dual citizenship application, and actually picking up my birth certificate! Everyone that works here whom I encountered was nice and very helpful! Please call the general consulate as they can help you schedule appointments and tell you exactly what documents you need. Sometimes on the phone, you’ll have to be patient to get someone but just wait! The number is (424) 309-0009. And, this is public information that our Mexican government has on their website! Sometimes, we just have to do our part, too. Overall, I’m happy with the support and services I received! Yay! Going to schedule an appointment for my passport next!
Update: once again.. Called (424) 309-0009 & scheduled an appointment for the consulate on wheels — got an appointment, went to my appointment with correct paper work, and got my passport. It is true, that a lot of people misinform themselves.. While waiting for my passport, there were people in the lobby waiting to get service and giving each other misinformation! I also think its unfair to blame the government workers about them not being able to help you if you do not have the correct paper work! I think its common sense, that if you come unprepared then you can't be helped! How is that the staff’s fault when they are just following the policies set for us by government! The numbers our consulate has on their website, and ask the people who work for the consulate what you actually need! Overall, I had all my documents, schedule my appointments, never had an issue getting my dual citizenship and now, my...
Read moreI had my appointment for 7:30 am today just in case the process took two hours. I was impress that my appointment time was respect and I was taken care promptly for my passport and Consular ID card. The first representative was knowledgeable and informative. The paid and receive both documents in about 10 to 15 mins.
Unfortunately, my visit did not end with a good note; two of the representatives were rude and disrespectful. One was a lady who work for the birth certificate section at 8:35am today and the second one was a representative name Rene. Rene took care of my voting card process which instead of correcting me on the proper name of the voting card, he decide to criticize me for not knowing. He also question my reasons for wanting to obtain the INE (Instituto Nacional Electoral).
I have live in the United States since I was 6 yrs old which I lack the knowledge of voting. My family members living in Mexico have very little information about voting so there is limited possibility of obtaining the proper information about this new system. Also, Mexico has gone through many changes since the year 1994, just in the year 2016 the Mexican living in foreign countries like the United States are allow to obtain a voting card in order to vote.
I would appreciate all the new change to expedite the wait time and organization of the consulate. I would like to request for more respectful, knowledgeable and patient representatives attending the Mexican citizens here in New York. According to my knowledge the representatives are representing Mexico here in New York which they should be looking out for the best interest of their...
Read moreWorse consulate experience I ever had. If I can give them negative 10, I would. Was outside 10 minutes the before they open (7am) and there were others waiting as well. It was raining and cold in December. I saw several employees entered through the employee entrance thinking that I no longer have to wait any longer. 10 minutes after 7am and no one open the gate, but I can see employees looking out through the glass door. 20 minutes gone, still the same. 40 minutes gone, someone peek out from the employees entrance and said they are closed for the day. No notice at the gate about the closure and no one came out to tell people waiting outside at 7am in the cold and rain while they were observing and enjoying people freezing. When people complained, the employees said she was more concerned about loosing her voice because she had to come out to inform people about the closure. The reason for the closure was training to provide better customer service. I say they certainly need it. I think they need better management training too. Who closed the whole consulate for training? Usually it's done in different groups so it does not impact...
