GIVING THIS PLACE A 1 STAR IS GENEROUS. STAY AWAY. THEY STEAL AND THEIR COSTUMER SERVICE IS DISGUSTING. NO HOSPITALITY OR ETHICS. Also "4 star" is a lie ad a huge joke. This hotel is beyond awful. The worst experience my sister, my friend and I ever had.
Starting off with check in, they took FOREVER to check us in while they weren't even working with anyone else it was just us three. They finally gave us a room: 1006 and we were pretty impressed. Our room looked nice and clean. (looks were certainly deceiving) later that day, I didn't experience the hotel too much since we are out and about touring NYC every inquiry I had or requested on the other hand was either a problem or they couldn't do. 4 star? ha ha ya right. They couldn't even accommodate proper food. Every little thing had a catch or was a problem. But getting to the real story we had ordered 3 robes and only 2 came, so before leaving we had requested one more and I had specifically said that I would pick it up from the counter when we came back so no one had to leave it in our room. Around (7-8).
We came back after 3-4 hours with some friends from home (Toronto) who were also visiting New York at around (11-1130) and we maybe took a 15-20 minute bathroom break. 3 guy friends. We all left again to go out to Times Square at around (11:45-12) We were all out for another 2-3 hours and finally around 2a.m. my sister, my friend and myself came back to the hotel. Not suspecting anything we went to bed to get up for a planned out early morning.
The next day. We were preparing for a long day in Brooklyn and that side of the city and didn't plan to be in the hotel all day till much later. My sister who had a watch case where she had put her Pandora bracelet with multiple charms wasn't in the watch case anymore. Before making ANY assumptions we searched the room TOP TO BOTTOM. We didn't have much valuables on us, but we wouldn't have suspected anything since anything we had was out and not hidden in our bags, expect for my sisters bracelet. We didn't want to even think that someone had come in and stole it, mind you a worker but there was NO other explanation as we had all seen her put the bracelet in the case, and of our 3 friends who had come back were sitting with us or only had used the restroom had 0 opportunity to take anything without us seeing. Mind you, we doubted 3 of our male friends who are are our CLOSE friends would want anything to do with a girly charmed bracelet.
my sister went downstairs first and calmly spoke to the people at the front desk and they were unwilling to help from the start. Doubting her, and being uncooperative and even mocking and laughing at her. Any normal hotel would have taken this seriously and contacted police immediately. I had to make my way downstairs and call them myself. They were incorporative with the police, the detective on our case has even stated that himself. We are still dealing with the issue, so i do strongly urge to NOT STAY HERE!!! and if you MUST, LOCK YOUR STUFF.
Not only was the service more than TERRIBLE, their staff ethics is disgusting. At any decent hotel this would have ever happened. We wasted almost a full day dealing with this and being at the NYPD because they were so uncooperative. Not only did we not get the bracelet back, but we will never have that time back. Our trip was only 3 days.
Terrible hotel and terrible management. Looks are deceiving on this one. STRONGLY SUGGESTING TO AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAUGE.
One last thing, found this place on Trivago which had stated it was a 4 star hotel as well. Starting to question the reliability of Triage as well. REALLY DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE!!!!! BE SMART WITH WHERE YOU CHOOSE TO STAY! The "good reviews" here are probably paid for or written themselves, just read some of them they...
Read moreBottom line: this is a mediocre place to stay if the price is low and you know what you’re getting into. It's a disorganized and outdated hotel with cleanliness issues. You’ll have a better time at any generic chain hotel.
I traveled a lot this summer and this is the cheapest bed I’ve slept on all year. It feels like a box spring with a thin mattress pad over it. The pillows all smoosh down to flatness almost immediately. If you have chronic pain like I do, be wary.
My room was reasonably sized with very high ceilings, which is kind of neat. However the room isn’t lit to make this space feel anything but gloomy. I never felt like the place was adequately lit, even with the drapes drawn and every lamp on. It doesn’t help that the window panes haven’t been cleaned in a year and obscure what little sunlight the place gets. Since the walls are a little dingy and carpet is aging, and the closet is tiny and dinged up, it made the whole room feel depressing.
The only chair in the room is a steel-rimmed pain that belongs in a high school auditorium. The desk is badly worn and rattles with the slightest nudge; working on my laptop on it was annoying. The closet is tiny, chipped, and has no ironing board.
Thirty minutes after checking in, the wifi went out. I waited half an hour but could not reconnect on any devices. I called the front desk and they said they’d look into it. An hour later I went downstairs to ask what was up. The manager literally came over to me and said in a grumpy tone, “It’s being worked on. Be patient.” Then he immediately ignored me to talk to another guest. This same guy checked me in a few hours earlier, and was cold and barely communicative then.
The wifi did come back after two hours. So if you need internet for work, be prepared.
Now to be fair, the other person I talked to at the front desk was helpful and kind. So it’s not everyone on the staff.
Then there’s the alarm clock. Whoever had my room previously set an alarm for 6:00 AM. Apparently the staff didn’t notice and didn’t turn it off. I woke up very cranky. This is a pretty basic thing that housekeeping should have been on top of.
Now the location of the hotel is great. It’s a short walk from Grand Central Terminal and lots of tourist destinations, and there are plenty of food options within half a mile. I stayed in July, and the one location problem I had was the major construction across the street that had loud noise late into the night. This will hopefully be finished before you consider staying here.
I booked through a third party service. Since the Dylan Hotel didn't send me confirmation the week of check-in, I called them. The reservations department had no listing of me and tried to point me to an overflow hotel on the other side of the city. BUT the front desk DID have my reservation when I called them separately. How the reservations department and front desk had different information is beyond me. Based on everything else in my stay, they seem disorganized.
They also dropped a mysterious “facilities fee” on me at check-in. These are garbage fees that cheap hotels tack on to nickel-and-dime guests. It’s a bad look for a hotel that clearly needs renovations, especially for a stay like...
