My wife and I stayed at Towne Place for a week in June 2024. While listed as Towne Place Times Square, it is in fact a couple of blocks off of Times Square in Hells Kitchen. The location was outstanding as you are away from the chaos of Times Square, but close enough to walk over in 10 minutes. Walk 5 minutes the other way and you are in the heart of Hells Kitchen and an abundance of restaurants, bars, and clubs, all of which seem much better, and much cheaper than TS which has basically nothing but chain restaurants anyway. |The hotel is on a fairly quiet side street, and is only 7 stories, so right away you don't have the issue of massive crowds in the lobby and dozens of people trying access elevators all at once. I was greeted right away on arrival and check-in was smooth and easy, taking all of 5 minutes. We had a room on the 7th floor, and like all or most NY rooms it was small. That said, it was extremely efficient and was well appointed, with each room having a small kitchen area. A fridge that actually worked well, microwave, and cooktop. It even has a dishwasher. Also had plates, cutlery, cups, glasses etc. Now, if you are going to NY, you are probably doing some fine dinning, but we did take advantage of the facilities on a couple of nights, picking up a couple of microwave entries, some bread, wine, and desert. Quite enjoyed eating in a couple of times after long sight seeing days. The bathroom was very nice with a walk-in glass shower. The bed was very comfortable and the TV was a good size (48-50"?) The TV also had access to Netflix. You have to have a NF account, but if you do, you just log in with email and PW once. It was great to enjoy a couple of movies on evenings when we were back in room earlier. The hotel also had a free breakfast that was quite extensive. The hotel also employs on site security. The area seemed pretty safe, and I never had an issue, even at night, but it was nice to know there was security present. |Of course no hotel stay goes without a bit of a glitch. Our A/C went out after a couple of days, and at the time NY was experiencing extreme heat and humidity with temps in the mid 90's (mid 30's C). Maintenance tried their best to address with no luck. The staff advised they had no rooms to move to but would next day. They got me a large fan which we propped at the end of the bed and frankly we were fine for sleeping that night. They got me a new room on the 2nd floor the next day. I have zero complaints on how the situation was handled. |Last few points, I saw a lot of comments about noise both inside and out in various hotel reviews. I have to say, except for the odd door slam I did not hear a thing from adjacent rooms, and street noise was negligible, even after moving to second floor. |Final point. Staff. Outstanding. Simply outstanding! Over my week long stay, there were three ladies and one young man on duty at various times. They were all friendly, helpful, and professional. Always greeting us when we came in, or saying have a great day when leaving. Always happy to advise on directions, or which subway to take. They arranged a car to travel back to the airport when I asked what was the best way, and again, their care and professionalism with regard to the A/C issue was outstanding. |I would have no issue recommending this hotel to...
Read moreSize - 2/5. very small. This is a tiny studio. If you’re coming with more than one person, you could not move around freely. The bedroom is right next to the kitchen area. There is not a single small table for eating or even a coffee table for the room chair. The free space in the room will be taken up by your luggage.
Noise - 2/5. You can hear everything the other room is doing.
In room amenities - 3/5. For kitchen stuff, most of what you need is available (pots, pans, cups, plates, eating utensils). But again, there’s no table to eat after you make your food in the said kitchen. There’s a mini fridge that you can use (no paid drinks in there). That’s about it, there’s a clothing iron and an ironing board but that won’t fit in the room anyway. There’s one trash bin in the bedroom area, none in the kitchen.
Temperature - 1/5. Thermostat did not work, room temperature cannot be modified. The room was extremely hot. It was 82°F. When this was brought up, they claimed they did not have anyone on site to fix it, and we’d have to wait until the morning for someone to come see it. Nobody ever came to fix it. No, we were not offered to be moved to another room either. No compensation whatsoever. They did give us a standing fan, which was dirty and had hair and dust all over it. It did not help, the room was still very hot.
Cleanliness - 4/5. Bed, bathroom, kitchen all clean. No issues as per the room itself, until I received the dirty fan, that was supposed to be used to compensate for the hot room. This felt like an insult.
Staff - 4/5, generally friendly.
Breakfast - 3/5. Food is average: breads, scrambled eggs, yogurts, milk, oatmeal. There were definitely not enough tables for the amount of guests that stayed there. So you either come early in the morning or you may not find any seat. There were maybe 2-3 tables available, the rest were not an appropriate size for eating, too small for even a tablet.
Elevator - 2/5. One elevator for the whole building. Works, but very slow. Organize your day accordingly.
Parking - 1/5. I would not park here again. It’s a valet system so you leave your car keys. There are no directions or instructions, you must know where to stop and where to go, otherwise they will shout at you. After you park your car, you cannot go back and get anything from your car until the end of your trip, which is when you leave. We were given conflicting instructions and were not informed of any of this before going in or leaving our car with them, so be careful when you do enter. The staff at the parking garage are hostile and rude. If you decide to stay at this hotel, finding another parking area should be part of your planning. Hotel staff aren’t informed of how it works either, even though the hotel has affiliations with this parking garage. I would not stay here just to save $5.
Location - 4/5. Close to TS and subway stations to go around Manhattan.
Overall rating: 2/5.
Due to the high room temperature, this stay was unacceptable. The solution they provided did not solve the problem and left me and my family uncomfortable and unable to sleep. We paid the room so we could rest properly, but that...
Read moreThe reason my wife and I rated negative on the survey and are going to rate negative on Yelp as well and on the Marriot BONVOY Platform (of which I am a member) was the terrible service we received at your New York location.
Day 1 Our room was not ready and was booked a week in advance.
Day 1 (In the afternoon) upon arrival at the room, I noticed that the bed was not King side as I paid in my reservation, I called the host and they told me that it was a king studio room and that the bed was smaller. Which is totally false since you have 2 rates, one for queen and one for king (attached Photo 1). Day 1 (At night) When my wife and I go to bathe, it turns out that we only have 1 towel in the room. If we are two people and we made a reservation for two, why do they give us only one towel? We called the host again and they brought us 1 more towel, after 5 minutes they charged my credit card $ 10 for the towel.
Day 2 (In the morning) When we go to the main room to have breakfast, the person at the reception tells us that they do not have breakfast (breakfast according to the offer they made me when making my reservation was included) One of the reasons why I chose this hotel was because they offered me breakfast.
Day 2 (When we got to the room again we had only one towel and also no one came to accommodate our room. We called the reception again and they told us that the room service had to be done every three days (they never informed me of this when I made my reservation) if I wanted to get to my hotel after a long day to accommodate my room, I better stay in an AIRBNB. The reason why people stay in a hotel is because they want to be provided a service which pay, not for oneself to serve.
Day 3 (at night) Upon arriving at the hotel after walking all day through New York they told us that they did not have an elevator that they were repairing. The man at the reception was watching the World Series game and the truth was, he didn't even stop looking at the phone, he just told us that we had to go up five floors up the stairs. My wife had swollen feet from walking but they did not offer us another alternative, nor did they inform us that they had to make repairs to the elevator for us to take action on it and arrive before or after the repair time.
Day 1,2,3,4 Every day we had to clean and dry the bathroom floor, the reason was that a rubber was missing from the glass that separates the shower from the bathroom and this was flooded. We told him at the reception that this was going on from day one and they never fixed it.
Today November 1, 2020 and from the first day I stay, I have $ 210 blocked on my credit card and I do not know for what reason and I do not know when they will unlock it. They gave me my invoice the day I checked out and there was no extra charge but a week later I still have the money...
