As an aspiring writer, director, and future CEO of the #1 acting company in America, I love all theatre. Especially productions of Shakespeare (who is the reason I fell in love with theatre). Today, on Broadway, there are currently numerous excellent productions such as Gypsy, Othello, John Proctor is the Villan, and The Picture of Dorian Grey. However, there is one that, after reading this review, you need to drop what you’re doing and get tickets for: The Outsiders. Never in my entire life have I ever saw a production more pulse pounding, more emotional, more inspiring than this musical that Danya Taymor brilliantly brought to life. Not only was it the best musical I ever saw in my life, but it also has the greatest cast in Broadway history. While Broadway is always filled with some pretty amazing people, this cast is the greatest in Broadway history because they truly care about making the world a better place and know what I means to be human. A few weeks I had the privilege of meeting Danya, Brody Grant, Sky Lynch, and Emma Pittman and let me tell you, they were all extremely nice and inspirational. I really can’t wait until the day I start working with them all. So why should you get tickets to The Outsiders? Because again it’s the BEST show currently on Broadway and has the greatest, most talented, most dedicated cast in Broadway history! If Shakespeare were still around, he definitely would have loved this show. So yeah you’re life will be changed after seeing this Tony Award winning show.
PS: 1) I think it should be nominated for another Tony 2) Everyone should check out Emma Pittman’s awesome YouTube channel she makes some awesome...
Read moreThank God I don't have childbearing hips. The seats here are very narrow. I'm also glad the seat next to me was empty or else I would have been crammed shoulder to shoulder with my seat mates. I watched in fascination as a big dude a few rows in front of me gathered himself and his coat together in order to squeeze into his seat like reverse Jenga.
The staff is good about warning people to turn off their phones. I love my phone too, I'm writing this review on it, but when you can't sit still and be inside your own head for 5 mins. without compulsively pulling out your phone... admit that you have a problem.
I was seated in Orchestra Row L Seat 10. $40 Rush tickets FTW! There were A LOT of empty seats to my right. I guess those seat filling companies aren't doing well because this was a big name show. Well, Charlie Cox will always be a big deal to me.
Speaking of Charlie Cox, the stage door set up and managing was some of the best I've ever seen. I wasn't anywhere near the front but this woman with long arms sent up my playbills for Mr. Cox to sign. He signed them both, including my 3 year old Incognito playbill (I reviewed that show too. Charlie Cox always breaks my heart). But the most impressive stage door performance was from Tom Hiddleston. He signed everything. The woman who prepped the line before they came out warned that there would be no selfies... Hiddleston made her into a liar and took every single selfie. Every. Single. One. Hiddleston was the MVP of the stage door.
Other than the width of the seats, it's a comfortable theater with great sight lines, great sound, and a well...
Read moreTheater is beautiful and it seems like view is good from most anywhere. Sound was great. However, there was an usher who stood in the aisle blocking our view of the beginning of the first song in Outsiders. He was not seating or escorting anyone to their seats; he was just standing there. Standing. In an aisle. Not even making an attempt to crouch down for whatever reason he was there. Also, I understand that the reason you go to a show is to see the show, and nothing else, but know that you can do nothing else here. There is little order to the bathroom lines, which commingle with the concession lines downstairs, and there is not time to do both. So use the bathroom and have a drink before you go, or pick carefully, because moving about during intermission is painful. Even getting in was painful; there is a concession stand on the main level which is the main entryway - between people waiting in line there, milling about, and trying to find seats, it took forever in line outside to get in because people couldn’t get it with so many people crowded about in the main walkway just behind the lower level seats. I know it’s NYC and space everywhere is tight, and theaters want to pack it with seats, but this felt like it took sardines to a...
