Pros: Small intimate breakfast Tea & snacks at night Free YWCA membership Beautiful room Quiet and private atmosphere Wondeful shower Great convenient location The room was Pristine Beautiful view of an old clock Gorgeous tea room with lovely artwork Cons: Hospitality? Girl at front desk when we checked in said "Hey." When she should have said, "Welcome to the Garrison Inn, tea time is at x time, you get a free membership to the YWCA." etc. My mom asked her about the shopping in the area and she just pointed and said "that way." The guy making the breakfast claims he can make you anything off menu but when you start asking him about other food, he seemingly doesn't have the ingredients. Also he was rude to my mom saying they had to dump an entire pot of decaf coffee because she asked for it the morning before but only drank one cup. He told her she should have more than one cup this time. She drank 3 that morning, I think out of guilt. This infuriated me. It's not her fault other guests didn't drink it as well. Is she expected to drink a whole pot by herself?? Ridiculous and rude! Needless to say, we did not return for breakfast after the first 2 mornings. Btw the food is small portions and it's just ok. I wanted coffee one night in the room so my mom called the front desk to order their beverage service which claims a pot of coffee is $10. It is not, it costs $30. Luckily I was told I could go down to the breakfast area and grab some leftover coffee from the morning. It costs $30 for someone to deliver the pot of coffee even if you don't get sugar and cream with it. It's $30 for the 'service' and they deliver it to you with tea cups, sugar and cream on a platter. Why not say it costs $30 on your beverage service paper? Also we went to the YWCA and paid for trial memberships because no one told us we had free access through the hotel. We now have to try and get a refund. No microwave in room. Mini fridge is cornered in the coat closet and the door opens the wrong way. It froze all our drinks. Uncomfortable beds. I woke up sore every day. We think the ac turned itself down at night maybe on a timer, which is not comfortable to sleep in. The additional security lock to our hotel room didnt work. No soap dish in the bathroom. They gave us dirty towels some days, and not enough face cloths. Their website advertises luxury Bulgari toiletries but they provided a cheap brand called "Nest" false advertising! They didn't give us anything other than shampoo, conditioner, 2 bars of soap and a body lotion. No makeup wipes, shower cap, mini toiletries kit. The only thing in the room was 2 big bottles of water that cost $5 each. They didn't even have a little gift shop or store to buy snacks and drinks, we had to order doordash from a nearby convenience store. No trash can to put trash during our nightly tea time. They put only put out 2 kinds of snacks during tea time, sugar cookies and scones of one flavor. And its the same every night. Elevator is VERY slow. At no time during our stay, did anyone ask us how our stay was, not even when we checked out. In fact, we think we checked out with the owner of the hotel. We would have raised these concerns in person if anyone had even bothered to ask us any kind of hospitality related questions you would expect from any hotel!

I have stayed at the Garrison Inn many time both for business and pleasure and have always enjoyed it every time! I call it my favorite hotel in my favorite town. The place itself is wonderful and unique, with a charming historical feel to it. It's like going back in time and parts of it like a museum. The location is perfect as it's within walking distance of the entire downtown area bars, restaurants, and shops. But what stands out the most for me is the exceptional customer service from the entire staff! Jody, Kim, and Stu are absolutely wonderful people and a joy to deal with. They are kind, attentive, accomodating, flexible, and always making every effort to make sure that I am comfortable and that I enjoy my stay. I have seen them go above and beyond for me multiple times. A couple of years ago, I stayed here with my cousin from Portugal, who is a world traveler and has stayed at some pretty high end fancy hotels. He absolutely loved the charm of the place, and the staff, and his whole experience there...and when he came back last year, we went back again. He has told me that everytime he comes back to the US, he wants to visit Newburyport and stay at the Garrison Inn. This is by far the best place to stay in the entire area and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Newburyport!

We recently had a one night stay in room 405 and it was interesting. The place is dated, I'm sure in some parts due to it being historical and having to follow certain rules but this is even dated for dated. Our room was listed as a junior suite which is a room with a spiral staircase that leads up to what looks like an old war hospital room. We chose not to sleep up there. The main queen bed was not comfy. Chairs were stained. Decor was so odd and old and dusty. The only new thing was the TV and the shower. The bathroom was bizarre. There is an up to date walk in shower with a half wall that is way too short and causes water to get it everywhere. The toilet was very old and seat was hanging on by a thread. The water pressure was meh and temp not hot enough. The elevator was so so so so old and terrifying, we opted for the steps. The lobby and tea or sitting areas were nice. I wish the rooms were this nice. Front desk reception was very nice and helpful, no complaints there. I just think it'd be better to focus on those rooms and not daily tea at 7 PM. The location is perfect though. Nice quick walk to everything in town. Overall, pics on their site are misleading which stinks because the room was not worth the price charged, especially on a Tuesday night.

My husband and I stayed August 2023. From the moment we walked in, I wished we hadn’t chosen this place. We never felt welcome from the moment we stepped in the lobby to check in. And each time we came back from exploring the area and entered the lobby, although staff was sitting right at the reception desk and made eye contact , they never even acknowledged us. We found it odd they couldn’t even take the time to say “hello or hope you had a nice day”. We travel a lot and never have experienced such rude and unwelcoming hotel staff. I must add that there was one individual that was incredibly nice. I wish I got her name. She brought us clean towels one day and also provided us with new room keys when we changed rooms. (I will explain in a bit) .|This hotel has an “old antique” smell as soon as you enter the lobby. It is not a warm and pleasant place to sit or hang out while waiting in room to get ready. The bathrooms are not located in the lobby area but down in the very creepy basement . |We stayed in the penthouse (as they call it) room 408. I do NOT recommend. As I mentioned the hotel has an odd feel to it. I had a sense of “creepy” the first day we were there. The door locks are a push button like you would have for a closet or bedroom door. Certainly not hotel quality. This odd feeling escalated at around 2AM when I felt someone tap me on the shoulder and said “hey”. Luckily, My husband heard it as well so he knew I wasn’t crazy. |The next day my husband explained what happened during the night and asked to be moved to another room Or we would be leaving that day. There was another vacant room that we were moved to that had a much better feel. We didn’t sleep much as the bed was very uncomfortable and was very low to the floor. |We noticed that there was a film crew there on day 2 (not sure what was being filmed) and the day we checked out, a notice was posted that there would be no breakfast served that morning. No price adjustment on room, just no breakfast. |I would never recommend this hotel to anyone (unless they wanted to experience room 408’s creepiness) I for one will be happy not to ever have that...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Garrison Inn, and I must say it was an absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. My organization decided to host our team's off-site at the Garrison Inn (for both lodging and meetings) and we were floored by the warmth and genuine hospitality of all of Garrison Inn's employees.

Room: The room was beyond expectations and matched the photos on the website. Spacious, immaculate, and quaintly designed, the rooms matched the feel of the rest of the hotel and Newburyport making for a seamless experience. The views of the water from the two-level room were stunning, especially at sunset.

Service: The service at the Garrison Inn is unmatched. Every staff member went above and beyond to ensure our very large corporate reservations were accurate and that everyone's needs were accounted for. I was always treated with courtesy and professionalism.

Breakfast is included in the nightly rate and is made-to-order. While there's a menu provided, the chef is willing and able to make items to your liking. The dining area is warmly decorated to match the hotel's unique style of modern with lush fabrics dotted with quaint/vintage touches.

A truly unique part of this hotel is their nightly tea (included in the nightly rate). Each night, a wide varierty of luxury teas are available for you to brew and enjoy in either their signature pink room or in the tea room.

Location: The location is ideal—conveniently situated close to Newburyport's many restaurants and the walking trail/water, but tucked away enough to offer a peaceful and relaxing retreat. The excellent location makes it a breeze to explore the surrounding area by foot.

There is ample parking for those driving and needing to park at the hotel.

Final Thoughts: Overall, my stay at the Garrison Inn was a memorable one. It’s the perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and service, with attention to detail at every turn. I wouldn’t hesitate to return and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-tier hotel experience; both for personal and corporate stays. This hotel is a...
