Blockade Runner — Hotel in North Myrtle Beach

I wished I had made this review while it was fresh on my mind, cause I'm sure I have forgotten things. We stayed 7 nights the last week of September into October 2024. We have been coming annually for 5 years. I didn't know they were under new management until I made reservations. When we checked in and got to our rooms, I was knocked down by the smell of mildew. There was white mold on the furniture and even the pics on the walls had condensation behind them. My son in law, who just happens to be a maintenance engineer for a popular hotel chain, said" the A/C unit is out of the wall. You could actually see outside. We had joined rooms, so when we went to their room, it was the same thing. There was mold in the coffee pot. He and I went to the front desk to ask for different rooms. She sent us to the 4th floor. Omg!! The same thing!! There was a puddle of water in front of the balcony door, the room was thick with condensation. I mean...doesn't anyone check these rooms to make sure they're ready for guests? We went back and told her. She came with us. My son in law said he could fix the AC units, all he needed was a drill and three screws. We went back to the front desk and she called her maintenance man and asked where the drill was. My son in law got the AC units back into the walls. She gave us a machine to draw out the condensation. We had to share it with my daughter and her husband. She gave us a spray bottle of disinfectant/room deodorizer. I would be safe to say that if we had called the health dept, they would have closed the place down. We were so disappointed. She did give us a $100 discount and was very apologetic. I didn't like it that there was no extra TP. We had to ask for trash bags, there was no maid service. You had to take your dirty towels to a container by the elevator. The dumpster was hard to find. I talked to two families on the beach who had been staying there for 20 years plus. They said they would not be back. When I got home, I told a friend about what happened, and she said" please don't tell me it was Elliott rentals. She had a horror story as well, although not about the block ade runner. My family and I never plan to use Elliott rentals ever again. I hate this happened, because my best friend ( that I've known since Jr. High) will be turning ,60 this year and we plan on taking a vacation together. We were really looking forward to staying at the Blockade Runner, now we will be trying to find another place. ...

Just returned from a stay at the blockade motor inn and we will never return. Here’s a list of what’s wrong. For starters, the pictures from Elliot’s website DO NOT match the actual hotel. It’s VERY outdated. The rooms don’t even look close to what they have pictures. Very outdated. They were clean though. The doors are hard to open. The keys don’t work for the dead bolt.

We were unaware that they were currently treating the 2nd floor for bugs, which would have been nice to know especially since our beds were wrapped in plastic(bed bugs I’m guessing). We would have never known had we not seen the tiny notice on the office doors.Would of been nice to know before we arrived but we did not so we had to go spend more money at the laundromat to avoid risking bringing anything home because well that’s just disgusting.

-Our shower wouldn’t drain, had to wait about an hour between showers because the tub was almost overflowing. The office wouldn’t answer so I had to send an email and didn’t receive a call back until the next evening. They left a voicemail telling me to come to the office so they could send someone up and 2 minutes later, they had maintenance knocking at our door to fix it while we were trying to get ready to leave which is fine, at least it’s fixed right? Yeah sure! The maintenance man broke the shower in the process so we had to wait even longer to shower and be able to leave to where we had planned to go.

There was no extra towels , we received 4 for a family of 5 . The bathroom floor got soaked from the shower and there was no bath mat so we had nothing to clean it up with.

-The WiFi shuts out at 12am

You might as well be your own house keeper being that you have to remove the sheets and bedding and take all trash out to a dumpster that couldn’t even be located or you could be fined up to $500😅 which isn’t much less that what we paid to stay

-No one is in office after 7 to help if needed so when we ran into absolutely no parking because someone took up multiple spaces for a trailer, we had to park in the grass and walk a good ways with our small children.

-Yellow staining on sheets.

The only good thing I have to say is the beds were comfortable , rooms were spacious and decent.

Blockade Runner has went DOWNHILL. I have stayed at BR for many years and enjoyed my stay. Sept 18, walked in the chair was turned over(chair legs were broken on both chairs) hazards. No coffee pot was in room. I reported it to Elliott beach rental via email and talked to girls at front desk. I was offered her Keurig and told she would report it also. I had Partial role of toilet paper and no extra in the room. Yes I was told at check in if I needed anything to come to front desk before 7pm. Later I noticed a razor in the bottom of the table beside the bed and a plastic fork beside the refrigerator (I left it to show staff) when they bring coffee pot. There was short hair(appeared to be dog hair all over the bathtub) I cleaned it myself. My nose started running but leaving room would stop. Noticed mold all over side of cabinet. Dirt / mold on box spring cover. Next morning reported no coffee pot via email to Elliot again. Stayed out on beach, no coffee pot again. The day before checkout 12:30 to 3:30 I get the coffee pot still in the box (no coffee or cups). So glad the restaurant and bar is back open(really nice people working in it)..had to buy my coffee but they made sure I had plenty to take with me.. due to I wasn’t planning to stay in my room waiting on someone to bring the coffee pot I didn’t show them the unclean room. I reported it to Elliott Beach Rental and they reported it to Blockade Runner staff to call me back. No wonder all payment is due prior to check in . Price per night increased significantly and definitely not worth an unclean...
