Renters Beware Emerald Cove I 2C and 8A – North Myrtle Beach
My husband planned his annual golf trip through Elliott Rentals . The trip was planned well in advance due to attendees traveling from various places across the country. We did not have room for all attendees at our condo and two other condos were required. Elliott Rentals was contacted to handle the 4-night stay and golf package. The original condos we booked became unavailable.
Elliott sent us information on Emerald Cove I 2C and 8A, the pictures looked nice, and the complex was within walking distance of our condo. Elliott was aware that it was necessary for everyone to be within walking distance since three days of golf was being coordinated for nine people.
The pictures and the description of the condo were very misleading. The top of the page description of each condo stated (and still does) “Well Maintained/Comfortable/Appealing”.
The condos were nothing like they were described and were nowhere close to being “well maintained, comfortable or appealing”.
Safety & Cleanliness issues:
Rusted Kitchen Sink (that Elliott was aware of based on previous review mentioned below). The solution, someone covered the edges with electrical tape.
Drawer front hanging off drawer in the kitchen
Excessive mold in bathrooms (we were told via email someone would come look at this and as far as we know they never did)
Cockroaches and other dead bugs
Stained mattresses with torn bedding
Beds not made and one bed with no sheets. Elliott’s response to this was that there were 3 guests and 4th bed not required. Maybe plausible except it was the master bedroom that was unmade. After calling Elliott sheets were delivered in a bag.
Filthy conditions throughout
TV/Remote not working in 8A (again, we were told via email someone would be by to check on it) Note: yes, I’m sure somewhere in the contract Elliott takes no responsibility for items that do not work.
Shame on any owner that allows something like this to be rented out, had a child been on the trip we would not have allowed them in the condo for safety concerns. Also, shame on Elliott because they were aware (at least) of the issues in 2C based on a previous review posted approximately one month prior. (see pictures for review and Elliott’s response).
Elliott did an excellent job planning the golf trip unfortunately they failed on the accommodations. The most frustrating part is being told they had no idea then seeing the review from one month prior. Elliott appears to have a mixed bag of reviews and obviously represent some very nice properties, they also have many reviews describing dirty, moldy, falsely described rentals, and other issues.
Elliott responds to most reviews with Exceptionalism in Service Starts with Compassion. Are we supposed to be compassionate since they do not own the rentals and are just the 3rd party? They also often respond with assurance they were unaware; give their apologies and state they have a long-standing reputation of impeccable service. Finally, they may also respond that they have no record of my renting a condo, it was under my husband’s name Reservation 1331479
Elliott will also point out they offered a different alternative over 2.5 miles away. This alternative was inconvenient, had 4 bedrooms for six men to share (yes, they would have separate beds) and although there were no reviews to be found for this unit, the overall reviews of the complex appeared we could have the same issue just further away.
We were refunded $200 per unit ($400), probably the cleaning fee which makes sense as nothing was cleaned or maintained for quite some time. Each of the six people staying in these condos received $67. While we accepted the $400 it’s apparent Elliott or owner(s) of the rentals were willing to waive any of their charges to attempt to make this right. Keep in mind we asked for half of the money back, not a full refund.

Read moreBottom Line: This property management company, despite what they say, does not care to fix ongoing issues. Our group consisted of five families totaling 24 individuals. We stayed in the house for one week in early August 2022. MAJOR PROBLEMS: CLEANLINESS (Property Manager): The house was very dirty on arrival. Trash was littered everywhere. We found empty liquor bottles under the beds upstairs. Miscellaneous trash was present throughout the property. The floors throughout were gritty/sandy, bedspreads not washed, linens were clean but stained and of cheap quality. We spent two and a half days cleaning the house just to get it to a reasonable level of cleanliness for the group. Days of vacation wasted particularly for grandma who was very concerned about the health of the children. We ran a vacuum over all the carpets and collected huge amounts of sand particularly on the stairs. We cleaned all of the cabinets and drawers, wiped down and sanitized surfaces, swept and mopped all hardwood floors, spray washed the back patio which literally had inches of sand piled up on the walkways. Cockroaches, both dead and alive, were present throughout the home throughout the week. POOL MAINTENANCE (Property Manager): The pool area was not maintained/functional. The hot tub was not functional. We called these problems in to the management company, but no one ever came to fix the issues. This led to a significant health problem for many of us. By the end of the week, 20 out of 24 in our group had significant sinus/ear/eye infections. Numerous doctors confirmed that the likely cause of the infections was bacteria from water. GRILL GREASE (Property Manager): There was a large amount of grease built up in the grill. When we lit it, a large fire broke out which we had to put out using the hose. BACK PORCH SECOND FLOOR BALCONY (Property Manager & Owner): The upper porch (see attached picture), was in disrepair. We didn’t use it, and that was a shame because the views from the porch would have been excellent. MINOR PROBLEMS Limited hooks/hangers throughout the home (Owner). Few rooms had blinds (Owner). Air hockey table was broken (Elliott). Many sinks and tubs didn’t have drain plugs in them. Approx 50% of fridge shelves were broken Washer/Dryer knobs were broken. We guessed on settings and had to “babysit” the laundry when it ran. This is of course not desirable while on vacation (Elliott). There are very few power outlets throughout the home. The beds are crammed into the rooms with little space for anything else. Recommend owner do bunks instead. POSITIVES: The location is excellent. Right on the beach. Big Kitchen w/two dishwashers and two ovens/stovetops. We reported problems with the air conditioning unit, and Elliott sent someone who did fix the problem. OVERALL IMPRESSION: This was the worst VRBO we’ve ever experienced, and it was a shame because it had so much potential. We spoke directly with Elliott Management at the end of the week and expressed our grievances. After much persuasion, they waived our cleaning fee and reimbursed us 16% of the rental cost. We think a 50% reduction in price would have been more appropriate as we lost two days of vacation due to cleaning efforts, fell ill due to unsanitary conditions, and missed out on what would have otherwise been some spectacular views from the second-floor deck. I have read the other negative reviews that Elliott received and noticed that Elliott responds to each negative review by trumpeting their own “superior” track record of quality and empathy. In other words, they claim quality yet ironically give little acknowledgement to valid complaints. I find this particularly irritating and anticipate bristling at their impending reply to this review. The staff at the office are friendly, but being friendly is not enough! They need to ensure their homes are safe and clean. Bottom line, this is not a house I would ever rent again while under the management of Elliott. Do NOT...
Read moreFamily stayed at Pineapple Palace September 1st - 8th, 2024. This is our 30th family beach trip and the worse experience we have ever had. To say we were HIGHLY disappointed is an understatement. We will NOT be staying at this house again. I'm not sure why it's considered a luxury rental when it didn't even look luxurious. We called at the beginning of the week to complain about these issues & the Elliott employee said, "Well usually people wait until the end of the week or when they check-out to complain". REALLY!? If we have issues at the beginning of the week, why wait until the end of the week to complain. Two remotes in the living room didn't work, we checked to see if there were batteries in them & they were corroded. Went to the store & bought new batteries for the remotes. Volume on remote wasn't working so we had to manually go up to the side & turn up the volume on the TV Freezer in refrigerator closest to pantry door was completely frozen & we weren't able to open it. Icemakers in both fridges weren't working. Mop & broom in the house was black & dirty looked like it had never been cleaned Had to purchase two plug in fans for two bedrooms b/c AC wasn't cooling the rooms down. Called the office about it & someone came out, they said because those rooms were on the opposite side of the AC unit, they wouldn't cool down like the rest Deck facing ocean on main floor in dining room, you couldn't open exterior door all the way b/c the floor was bowed & didn't allow the door to be fully opened Tile floor in kitchen area was broken. Found loose pieces of tile on the floor after one of the babies was crawling & almost picked up a piece Knobs on oven/stove top were loose & broken. Couldn't turn half on to cut the stove tops on. Had to use tools just to turn the metal part of the knob so that we could cook Pots & cookie sheets in the kitchen were old & rusty. Refrigerators weren't clean upon arrival. Dishwasher to left of sink was broken where you put in the dishwasher pod so there was no lid to close the pod up. Dishwasher to right of sink wouldn't lock & would leak sometimes Wires in laundry room were exposed & had no door to close it up for it not to be exposed Mattresses were HORRIBLE. For one, they were so loud if you go in or out of bed that it would wake up the other person in a different bed. Two they were probably 1-2 inches thick & kept everyone sore the entire week Entire inside of the house needed painting. There were scratch marks all over the doors, walls, ceilings, etc. When we arrived, hot tub wasn't hot & both hot tub & pool were dirty. When we called they said the pool only got cleaned on Wednesday's & Saturday's. If that was the case, both should've been cleaned when we arrived Sunday afternoon. Some of the bathroom fans/vents didn't work when you tried to use the switch to cut them on. Especially on the top floor. The pocket/sliding bathroom door on the top floor didn't lock either which isn't ideal when you're sharing bedrooms with other family members. Covers for some of the electrical sockets were missing which is NOT IDEAL or SAFE when toddlers are staying here too. Back rest to one of the chairs at kitchen table was broken We changed air filter in the house because it was filthy & a few hours after arriving & moving the AC temp. down, the house wasn't cooling well that's how we found out it needed a new filter. Some chairs around the pool were broken & one was just thrown under the stairs upon our arrival. Water hose outside was covered with black tape that looked like it was trying to keep the handle on. This was very inconvenient when trying to wash off our feet & legs when coming from the beach Dust on all the ceiling fans. Some of the sheets were worn out & looked like they needed to be thrown in the trash All bathroom sinks, showers & bathtubs must have clogged drains because it took a long time for any of the water to drain Some of the vents/fans in the house looked like they had mold around...
