Maybe an Aberration?
I stopped in this Choice Hotel property while in the area for business. I chose the hotel since I have stayed in most of the hotels in the area such as the three Marriott properties down the road, the all-new Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton since its right next door to the Byway Brewery. One of the reasons I choose this hotel was the price. Most of the hotels in the area were extremely high..( conventions? Dunes? ) that night. The reviews seemed to be pretty good for this hotel as well. First off this hotel is a little off the beaten path, tucked away in a little alcove off the highway but tucked away in a secure location so one star for that. It s also two minutes away from a Starbucks, JJ Fish and Chicken and across the road from Walmart and Cabellas'. From the perspective of location, it's nicely situated with lots of parking.
I checked in quite easily to this massive property and got the King Room I had reserved. Check-in was seamless and the staff were very nice. I got my key and went to my room. The room itself was nothing special, it had a lingering musty smell, the AC/Heat unit was a little noisy. There were some chips and dents in the furniture, the carpet looked old and the room itself was a little dreary. My bathroom was spotless and very clean so that's a plus. I did get a good nights sleep. The gym was okay and no one was using it, it does need a modernization. The cool thing is its right off the pool which is the hotels' main attraction. I didn't actually use the pool but it was packed with kids and grown-ups. The breakfast was a saving grace with multiple options for the calorie counter and those who indulge. The food was fresh, well prepared and the staff working the breakfast area were attentive and refilling food stations when needed. Pros - Location, Price, Pool Cons - A little on the tired side and in need of a facelift, The fitness centre is okay but could use modernization, no USB ports and hard to find places to plugin, and the wifi was okay not blazing fast but I was able to surf and send emails. Will I stay here again? I might give it a...
Read moreI booked for two days. We had to switch rooms the second day because I paid by the day which caused room change , no big deal. I get a knock on the door in the morning and it’s the manager. She ask to speak to me outside the room. She then lets me know she came to let me know that the room we stayed in yesterday had muffin crumbs on the floor and “we literally had to use a broom to sweep the floor” ….uhm okay ? Is that what brooms are for ? Isn’t that what room service is for ? Her attitude about it was very distasteful. Then went to ask me “do you know what that can bring ? Ants and roaches” …..Roaches don’t just come from nowhere so now I’m wondering if they have a big problem already as is. Then the front desk lady tells me that after Thursday they are completely booked up , after Thursday we can’t stay anymore. I looked online and the front desk lady lied. They aren’t booked (which I took screenshots of ) then the manager proceeds to I guess what she calls scare me and said the girls will be servicing this room and will tell me the condition of this floor. I told her okay ?! The room floor isn’t dirty you didn’t see me go down for breakfast did you ? Being talked to like a child and threatened to not be able to stay is unprofessional . I would understand if we broke things or damaged property but no we didn’t . Weren’t loud , respected staff , and other guest. I paid over $1,000 in the last 10 days staying here so I expect better professionalism from staff , especially the manager. That’s okay because she has a...
Read moreI made a reservation for a King room for 3 nights at the Choice Hotels website with a note attached to prefer 1st floor. At check-in, I was given a warm water (was told the cooler was not working) and was given room 116. Walked into room and noticed it was a 2 queen room (so not given the proper room type as reserved). The next day, the key would not work, so the front desk made new key. However, we found out the next day that once again the key was only made for 1 night so had to get new keys again. During the second night, someone was knocking on door (it sounded like ours) for like 10 minutes at like 5 am waking me up. The microwave in the room looked like it had been dropped and had to hold the entire unit to push the button hard enough to get the door open. The whole door was tilted down, but it still worked (just very frustrating to open/close). This stay didn't make me feel like it was worth spending 18000 points. Front desk seemed nice, but basically told us that they have a small amount of King rooms and they can't guarantee reservation when asking about it when getting new keys made. There's something wrong if the reservation is meaningless. The appliances in the room should be checked to make sure they work as intended (not having to...
