We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard in Hammond Indiana from 9/29/23 to 10/3/23. We're loyal Marriott customers, but this stay didn't measure up to Courtyard's standards. (We realize that the hotel is in the middle of being redecorated, but our problems had nothing to do with that.)||We checked in at midnight on Friday after a long flight delay. The bartender in the "bistro" told us that breakfast would be served until 11am on Saturday. However, the next day they closed at 10am and we missed breakfast. Would it have killed him to consult some official listing of their hours, instead of just guessing? (However, many thanks to the guy who took pity on us on Saturday and got us some cereal and fruit and leftover coffee, even though they were officially closed.)||Speaking of cereal, how is it right for a Courtyard to gradually run out of Kellogg's cereal over the course of a 4-night stay? The first morning there were only two boxes of non-sugary cereal, one (1) Raisin-Bran and one (1) Rice Krispies. We ate them. Then after that first day, it was all sugar-coated so we couldn't have any cereal. Over the following three days there were fewer and fewer little boxes on the shelf. Had they ordered too little? Was it somehow impossible to replenish their stock? ||On the first day there was fresh fruit in cups for sale. It was good. The following days the unsold cups were STILL in the fridge for sale, no longer fresh. Hello? You have to throw away the old fruit when it doesn't sell, and prepare fresh new fruit for your customers.||Our room phone never worked at all. We asked at least twice. We understand that there may have been a good reason for it being out of order. But good customer service would have included a little note saying, "So sorry, the phone can't be repaired because _. Have a nice day!" instead of making us wonder if they were even trying to fix it.||Likewise, on the first day the desk lamp didn't work. We had to ask twice and it finally worked on the third day.||Why didn't they notice that the desk lamp and the phone weren't working and alert us before we checked in?||The first day, we asked the cleaners for some extra coffee and hand soap for the sink, and also for hand lotion of which there was none. They said yes. However, not only didn't they give us any of this, they never serviced our room at all. The next day we specifically asked the desk clerk to get us coffee, and hand lotion and hand soap for the sink, but they only got us a small bottle of hand lotion. No coffee. We've never stayed in a nice hotel before that did not automatically stock the bathroom sink with hand soap and hand lotion. And coffee.||The first day, there was no liquid soap in the dispenser in the shower. How is that even possible? The cleaners simply need to check the dispenser every day. That's the only reliable system for ensuring that the dispenser will not run out.||The third day, although our room was serviced, the cleaners didn't replenish our coffee or coffee cups, nor give us clean water glasses. Don't they have a checklist of things to do in every room, every day?||In general, there's a lack of thoroughness and organization in the management...
Read moreOn November 23rd, I was searching online for a nice hotel to take my daughter to cause she wanted to go swimming for her 14th birthday. I ran across lots of hotels but after reading a few reviews, I decided to go with the Courtyard by Marriott in Hammond, Indiana. I placed my reservation for Nov. 24th. On the 24th, I checked in around 5:30 pm almost 6 and after receiving the key, we went to the room and changed immediately into swimming gear. As we were changing, we saw a few ants crawling but I didnt really think nothing of it. We went to the pool and stayed intil anout 9 then went back to the room which was 103 to unwind, shower, and relax. As we were winding down, I started to see a few more ants than I seen when I first arrived. They were crawling all over the floor under the desk. I called to inform the front desk of the problem and all they can say was they will get the problem addressed. I cut the light off and proceeded to fall asleep only to be awaken by something crawling up my arms and legs. I jump up and cut the light on and ANTS ARE EVERYWHERE. ALL OVER THE WALLS THE HEADBOARD, THE COVERS, I MEAN EVERYWHERE!!! I DECIDED THAT WAS IT, I CANT DO THIS. I CALLED BACK DOWN TO THE FRONT DESK AGAIN ONLY TO BE APOLOGIZED TO FOR THE PROBLEM IN WHICH THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY ALREADY KNEW ABOUT BUT DID NOTHING ABOUT AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO INFORM MAINTENANCE BUT THEY WERE NOT ON DUTY AT THE TIME. I GRABBED ALL MY BELONGINGS AND MY CHILDREN AND GOT UP OUT OF THERE. I TURNED IN MY KEYS AND CAME HOME. I WAS ONLY THERE FOR A FEW HOURS AND I AM HIGHLY UPSET. I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO TALK TO MANAGEMENT ON MONDAY MORNING TO GET MY REFUND. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED AND WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN. I WOULDNT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO MY WORSE ENEMY. I'M PISSED NOT ONLY BECAUSE IT RUINED MY RELAXATION TIME, BUT IT ALSO RUINED MY DAUGHTERS BIRTHDAY PLANS. I WILL BE CONTACTING SOMEONE FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING. AND ANOTHER CRAZY PART ABOUT THIS WHOLE SITUATION, I JUST RAN ACROSS SOME REVIEWS FROM OTHER PEOLE AND ONE PERSON WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT ANTS 5 MONTHS AGO AND IT IS STILL AND ONGOING THING. THIS IS SAD AND...
Read moreWow! Our family has recently switched to traveling and always searching out Marriott Hotels. We found that our old favorite was becoming so pricey, and not always reliable. We had stayed at one of the other Marriott chains in Hammond, but we decided to try the Courtyard for a change. IT. WAS. AMAZING!
The rooms were beautiful and spacious. The pool was smaller than we expected, but, our two daughters were always the only ones swimming. The entire facility was clean and beautifully decorated. But, what set it apart for us were the staff people that we came in contact with. I wish I had taken down everyone's names...they were all so warm and welcoming. Our first night there, the front desk woman made us some microwave popcorn when we came to the lobby to play a board game. She found a bowl, brought a chocolate bar for my girls to share, and made us two bags of popcorn. WHO DOES THIS?!?!? It was so amazing! The woman who was working at the Starbucks was so friendly - my girls and I loved her cheerful personality first thing in the a.m. And, the woman who cleaned our room stopped us the first day and introduced herself, and then the second day we were there, we came back to the hotel after a long day in the city, and she had completely set up our entire room. She arranged all of my girls' stuffed animals and tucked them into bed. She straightened out all the snacks and items that were scattered all over the desk and dresser. She lined up all our shoes. It was so fun to come in to the room and see all the nice touches she had left for us. And, she left us a note greeting us, hoping we were enjoying our stay, and wishing us a great time while we toured Chicago. Again, WHO DOES THIS?
From the second we arrived (early, and they completely accommodated us arriving early - allowed us to check in) we were treated like royalty. Every staff person that was working during our visit (8/22-8/24) solidified in our minds that we are devoted Marriott...
