If I had just come for a few days or a week as a tourist or on business, I might have found this hotel pleasant enough. But I ended up being there for eight months while work was done in my condo and then halted while legal wrangling took place between insurance companies. I have medical disabilities that make life hard to begin with, and then I was under all this unnecessary stress. Even though I asked to be in an accommodation without exposure to strong synthetic chemicals like ammonia or bleach, I was placed in Suite 104, next to housekeeping with all of its chemicals, and the hotel laundry, the dryers of which vented directly into my unit if the windows were opened at all. I found that the breakfast buffet also had several ingredients that worsened my medical condition, so I ended up trying to make all of my own food on one burner. After several months of complaining, the larger burner was adequately repaired. I also developed reflux because the head of the bed was lower than the foot end. I had to get risers to lift the head up so that I wasn’t suffering from severe reflux. I used that guest laundry facility so many times over those eight months, and it was typically smelling of mold and mildew. Half the washers and dryers were not working nearly the whole time I was there, including during the height of summer when the hotel was booked solid and it was impossible to find an empty machine. People stole some of my clothing from there. So the conveniences turned out to be not so convenient for me. There were so many issues, such as no screens on the windows, allowing in many insects, especially lots of mosquitoes and cicadas. My room was right next to a pond, not only giving rise to swarms of mosquitoes, but also to pesticide applications used to mitigate. The pesticide made me extraordinarily ill. There was also an incredible stench of sewage back up around the base of my toilet where the O-ring had broken down. I had to draw on my own experience to instruct the maintenance people to properly repair this problem that they couldn’t figure out and that was causing me an incredible amount of disgust and suffering. On top of all of this, there were new furniture and carpeting installed in common areas, further aggravating my chemical sensitivities. Moreover, the security mechanism on the outside door at the end of my wing kept breaking, allowing people to come and go at will. Last but not least, there were fire alarms going off morning, noon and night at least once every couple weeks. To add insult to injury, Sujith at the front desk took a personal dislike to me because the Internet kept going out, and I couldn’t get my work done. His suggestions screwed up my computer. After that, he was not willing to do anything for me whatsoever. He made sure my mail never got to me and was always sent back to sender, addressee unknown. Several of my packages were stolen. It was an incredibly frustrating and damaging time for me, and the hotel did not improve my life whatsoever - quite the opposite. Finally, when I thought my experience there could not get any worse, the narcissistic manager Marisa heard about my complaints and threw me out at a time of extreme difficulty for me. Her brazen cruelty to me exceeds belief and was the final horror in my long sojourn. I met several other people while I stayed there who were in the hotel through their home insurance like I was. They were also very unimpressed with the amenities and service in spite of the staff’s extreme pride. Another couple was also thrown out for complaining. The best thing about my stay was that I accumulated 250,000 points and became a diamond elite member. I was able to use these points to stay at different hotels while my condo became livable and then again when I relocated across the country. The hotel manager who has responded is the very same one who threw me out, acting as if she were doing me a favor, so that “I could get the services that I required.“ And since I only left there in mid October, four months ago, it’s not really “almost 6...

I stayed here for months while my home was under renovation, so I have a rather well-informed feel for the place, and I would like to offer an extremely honest review from an empathetic perspective.
To begin, this hotel allows pets to stay with their guests. The hotel has no control over what pets do when they are in the room. Personally, you could tell a previous guest in my room had a dog that decided to chew the table legs. Sure it's a cosmetic issue but hey you have to remember that things happen, and for what you're paying for the room they can't swing a new table on the fly like that and is it affecting my level of comfort? No. Pets also, especially when in unfamiliar territory, may have potty problems. They do what they can as far as pets and carpeting. You can't pull up a whole carpet on a monthly basis, and flooring is a big. Noisy and expensive job to do while trying to remain profitable. It's difficult to plan and budget for that as a hotel. And have you ever stayed at a hotel undergoing reservations? Do you think you're being inconvenienced now? Psh, try it sometime. Nevertheless, if you're researching about staying here, please take into consideration that pets have been and are also guests of this hotel.
The hotel also has no control over what people do. People can be terrible and rude and don't treat the space with respect all of the time. Act as if oh, this isn't my stuff, and someone else will deal with it. You're allowed to move furniture in your room, which is nice, but that much leniency can lead to problems with people lacking respect. The fire alarms are a problem, yes. They are insanely loud and do go off relatively often, I'd say at least once a week, sometimes more, during my 4 month stay. More often than not, this is because a guest doesn't understand how to use the stove that they are unfamiliar with and burning something that sets it off. But wouldn't you be more upset if they weren't loud enough and didn't go off if it were actually something serious? The fire department typically makes it out quickly, and the alarm is deactivated anywhere from 5 minutes of onset to 15 minutes on a bad day. So again if you're researching, just be prepared for this to be a potential part of your experience, along with the potential of prior guests or even current ones having been or being disrespectful to the property. That comes with any hotel stay in my opinion, however the ones you pay alot more for it happens far less often because of the caliber of guests willing to pay that price, and vice versa.
They have a large lobby area that's reminiscent of a den and and a dining room put together. Sometimes, at night they even have fresh baked cookies down there if you beat everyone else to them. There's a "library" which is just a small collection of books along with a few board games, coloring supplies, and other miscellaneous things to occupy time. The media center is 2 computers and a printer. Honestly, it could probably use a little more attention but, most people have their own laptop or tablet or smartphone or whatever it may be so I can see why it might not be a concern of high priority. If you plan to print something here, I'd just say don't be disappointed if you aren't able to, or maybe ask the front desk if they can do it for you. The staff does all that they can to accommodate the guest within their means. Anyone who has experienced what they call "hostility" from someone in hospitality, is because they did something to illicit that response. I had a guy run out to get propane when it was out because they have grills outside that you can use at your leisure. The outdoor patio area is really nice, it overlooks a cure little pond with active wildlife that keeps its distance don't worry. For those of you with dogs planning to stay here, be aware of ticks during the warmer months if you walk them around. Parking was an issue at times. I've run out of...
Read moreI live in California and was in Chicago for work the week before Labor Day. I arranged a long weekend to spend with my parents and they drove in from Cleveland. We were looking for a hotel with spacious rooms since the three of us were sharing a room. I have only stayed at an extended stay type of hotel one other time so I wasn't so sure how the service, atmosphere, and other guests would be like.
This hotel, though the room decor was dated, was completely clean and had every amenity we needed. We didn't have any issues with noise and it was in a very safe area. Many of the other guests were families and all were very friendly. The staff at the front desk, in the breakfast area, and the cleaning crew were all very friendly and helpful. They were able to provide us with everything we asked for.
This hotel is almost exactly 20 miles west of downtown Chicago with easy access to freeways- just be sure to carry cash and coins as Chicago has a lot of toll roads that can't be avoided most of the time. I travel for work almost every week so I stay at many different hotel brands and properties. For the price, this hotel is an EXCEPTIONAL value and I would absolutely stay here again. The complimentary breakfast is good and has many options. There's a full continental breakfast along with a waffle maker and a rotation of hot food every day.
The only two things I can think of that weren't excellent are the comfort of the fold out bed in the sofa and the greasiness of the bacon and sausage at breakfast. I had planned on sleeping on the fold out couch but it was extremely uncomfortable with every spring poking through. The couch itself is comfortable to sit and lay on to watch TV (which you get two of), I would just think twice if your sleeping arrangements have someone sleeping on the fold out bed. I would say one person sleeping on the couch in the folded up position would be fine as I did so one night. It's just narrow and would not accommodate a taller person. The beds (we had two doubles) were VERY comfortable and the sheets were crisp and clean.
The breakfast was really good as far as options and freshness but the bacon and sausage were sitting in a lake of grease- they needed to be dried off before you could eat them, yuck! Also, the scrambled eggs were sitting in some water one day. The breakfast area was very busy each time we were there (we were told the property was sold out for the Labor Day weekend) but the staff was very efficient. They kept bringing out more hot food as needed and kept the area clean and stocked right up to the end time each morning.
To be honest, I really wasn't so sure about this property and took a chance because we were more concerned with the value for this trip. After our four nights there, I left highly impressed. Awesome job Oakbrook Terrace Staybridge Suites staff!! Keep up the great job and we'll...
