My grandfather is an Air Force Veteran and was told by a VA nurse on the phone to come in to the Emergency Department. I came with him as I’m a nurse and could explain things to him and my family who remained home. He got checked in at 2:30 pm. They did not call him in to a triage room to do bloodwork until 5:45 pm. At 7:20 pm they took him back for a CT scan. At 8:30 pm I went to the desk to ask how long it would be. The staff at the desk claimed they had called his name 3 times and he hadn’t answered when called. If they called his name then they stood at the check in desk and spoke in normal conversational tones. I was there the entire time and did not hear them call his name to go back for a room. They said they would get a room clean and get us back there, but that we must not have heard them when they called his name before. The staff member stated a room would be ready in 5 minutes. Acting like he did us a major favor after gaslighting us about not hearing his name. At 9 pm he was finally placed in a room. It is now 9:30 pm and no one has come in the room to check on him. If you are having an emergency do not come to this emergency department. If you do come bring food and things to do and be prepared to wait at least 6 hours. Who knows how long it will be before we see a doctor or a nurse. I try to be patient and give grace knowing how things can be in a hospital but this is ridiculous. Who knows how long it will be before he is either discharged...

Would save tax payers $378 BILLION if we eliminate the VA and provide instead private insurance to our wonderful soldiers.
We all know the kind of nightmare bureaucratic care that veterans receive in the VA from providers that couldn't be fired, being paid under government time without accountability.
Our soldiers would no doubt receive better care under...

This is why veterans light themselves on fire in the...
