Stay here for a night if you want to be a block off Worth Avenue. But that's it. I wasn't too thrilled with this place. The welcome at the hotel was lukewarm but you can chalk that up to one somewhat surly person at the front desk. A bigger problem was that I arrived at my suite 301 (a superior suite) and the room was pitch black and the hallway light was broken inside the suite and there were no ceiling fixtures, so I was fumbling around looking for a lamp to turn on. After a day of travel and work, there were no treats to welcome me, just two bottles of water. I went down to the pool and was told it was after dusk and therefore closed. That was a bummer because I chose this hotel over the Brazilian Court because it had a pool. There is no gym onsite; the gym you can use a few blocks away closes at 7pm. This place is just dead at night in terms of facilities.|I get this text from their virtual concierge telling me how thrilled the hotel was to have me as their guest, and I mentioned that I didn't feel very welcome here at a suite costing me $1,500 a night and the person replied that I should order food from room service. I suggested they might send a treat to my room, and they later did send a bottle of prosecco (but meanwhile nothing to eat, except that some bedtime pastry snack did show up).|I wanted to eat at the hotel restaurant for dinner, but the only fish item was fish and chips, so i wound up at Cafe Boulud. I ate downstairs for breakfast which was fine.|The hotel has nice bicycles that ride really well, and the Palm Beach Fitness gym is fine for a morning workout. It has everything you need; I was surprised that at 58 I was the youngest person in the gym. Usually, I'm one of the oldest.|A pain point in this suite is that the bathroom in the living room is the one with the shower and it's so small that the door is open halfway against your body when you try to stand in front of the sink. I was hoping for a suite that was not so tight. I did like that the shower controls were opposite the showerhead, so you didn't have to get cold water all over you to turn on the shower.|The hotel offers a courtesy car which will take you to the Breakers, which is where I transferred to the next day for the weekend. I had a much a better time there and felt i was treated much better there. For roughly the same money, you get much more facilities at the Breakers and if you have Amex Platinum, you get the amenities. At the Colony, I had to pay $43 for a bagel, cream cheese, smoked salmon and some avocado. I could have had the whole buffet at the Breakers for nothing.|There are lots of new hotels being built in Palm Beach. This hotel is not great value for money; the least they could do here is to do more to show their guests that they appreciate...
Read moreReview of The Colony Hotel: A Disappointing Experience
Where should I start when there is so much to be said? My recent stay at The Colony Hotel was nothing short of a disaster. What was supposed to be a relaxing four-day getaway turned into a frustrating ordeal as we were moved to three different rooms, with the final one being a suite that, frankly, should have never seen the light of day.
If I had to judge a stay by their rooms, The Colony would fail spectacularly. From the moment we entered, we were greeted by exposed lead paint chipping away in the bedroom, beat-up trim, and interior doors that looked like they hadn’t been touched in decades. Non-functional light switches, mildew in the bathrooms, and broken furniture made the overall experience feel unclean and neglected. It's hard to believe that all three rooms, including the suite, fell so short of basic standards.
As for the poolside experience, it was equally disappointing. On my first day, I was greeted with an arm and leg full of fresh sticky paint from the lounge chairs. Not only did the paint ruin my bathing suit, but I spent way too much time scrubbing it off my skin in our room’s malfunctioning shower. All three rooms had the same handheld showerhead, and each was a nightmare to use. The water either blasted like a power washer or fanned out in every direction, making for a frustrating shower experience. The bathrooms are not even equipped with a full glass door for the shower to stop the water from getting all over the bathroom floor and walls or fans to take the humidity out so that the mildew would not occur
How could such a classic icon turn into such a tourist trap? It’s disheartening to see a place with so much potential fall so far short of expectations. The overall lack of maintenance and attention to detail is alarming, and it’s clear that the hotel is in desperate need of a serious overhaul. Shame on the engineering department of this hotel for not doing a better job of the upkeep.
The only saving grace of this trip was the kindness and friendliness of the staff. They were genuinely warm and welcoming, which was the one redeemable quality of the hotel, along with the delicious restaurant.
In summary, my stay at The Colony Hotel was a major disappointment. I would not recommend staying there,...
Read moreIt's Classic, Romantic, Vintage!!! The perfect place for a relaxing getaway. This hotel is an enjoyable walk into the past, the way things were done a long time ago. We had a room with a beautiful view of the golf course from the 5th floor. Our cozy room was newly remodeled and the bed will give you a truly restful sleep, plush and comfy. Valet service was top notch, Dave and his crew pay attention to your every need. Marta in Sales and Marketing personally checked us in and made sure we had everything we needed. The GM is there with his door open should you need to stop in. Our room was CLEAN and stocked with amenities and towels. Hotel branded bottled water was replenished every time. Everyone knew how to give directions and steer you to points of interest. The beach is a 3 minute walk down the street. Worth Street shops are just around the corner. The Polo Restaurant served mouth watering large portioned breakfast, lunch and dinner. Try the coconut crusted french toast with a side of fresh berries and melon!! For the diet conscious at dinner try the Arugula & Gorgonzola salad with grilled chicken breast. The Cafe 155 keeps busy from early am to 3pm serving pastries, sandwiches, cool drinks and coffee, excellent cappuccino!. The pool has a relaxing ambiance with wonderful landscaping, attentive poolside service, fully prepped chaise lounges with plush beach sized towels and pillows. The pool water is the perfect temperature to keep the heat away but keep the chills away as well. Outside dining by the pool is a must. We were greeted by name and with a smile every time and were asked repeatedly if we could be assisted in any way. Yes, the hotel is under renovation but you can hardly hear the noise from where we stayed, the construction crew was very courteous and made every effort to remain behind the scenes. The hotel will close for one month starting Sept. 1, 2014 to remodel the lobby and other areas. The villas across the street are huge and luxurious, the villas pool was remodeled and has a larger deck. All villas are currently being remodeled as well. We can't wait to go back and see the finished product. If you like a quiet, clean, cozy vintage surrounding with excellent upscale service then this...
