Best Cantonese food around. Our go to place. This is as good as you can get in the area. Unlike other Chinese restaurants nearby the food is authentic Cantonese with a few obligatory dishes that satisfy Caucasian tastes. Walk in and the diners are 90% Asian. Good indication you're in the right place. The seafood is very fresh. Had salt and pepper prawns last night and they were perfectly prepared. Lightly battered, not oily, crispy on the outside, large and sweet as always. Added some beef chow fun, soup of the day and sauteed mustard greens with garlic. Enough for three. We've been regulars for 30 plus years, going back to when they were on El Camino near San Antonio and have never had any dish that didn't satisfy us. You simply can't go wrong here. The banquet menus are written both in Chinese and English. If you're with a group of at least 6-8 people you should experiment. You'll be in for a real treat from soup to dessert.
After over 30 years, Hong Kong has new owners. We've eaten in on one occasion and have had takeout twice. Two takeaways ... there are some new items on the menu and items that we've ordered many times in the past are just as good as they've always been (sigh of relief)! Tried a chef's specialty crispy tamago tofu with mushrooms and bok choy. Perfectly done. Some wait staff have been retained and there are some new people including a manager type person named Raymond. I mentioned that we had been frequent customers for years and was happy that the place was in good hands. He said he would do his best to always take good care of us. Wasn't expecting that but it was nice and seemed genuinely sincere. All but two large banquet tables were full and those were marked as reserved. All but one table were Asian customers. A good sign that they will do well and continue with good quality and excellent...
Read moreI went there after a co-worker advised me to check it out, claiming they had good portions, great food, and competitive pricing. It turns out this co-worker was a vegetarian, and guess which part of my dinner I didn't like? :)
I ordered the Pineapple Shortribs, Potstickers, and a side of white rice: $23
That ended up being a lot of food. Definitely enough for 2 in that order.
Pineapple Shortribs: mediocre. Very little flavor, very fatty, and an annoying dish to eat due to the rib-minefield scattered throughout varying chunks of meat. I had 3 or 4 pieces and then threw it away. I wouldn't even offer it to my co-workers; I would have been embarrassed if they tried it.
Potstickers(6): These were actually really good and hearty. One of these orders is more than enough for a whole meal. It ended up being mine, and I'm not a person whose stature let alone appetite could be described as "small". These potstickers seemed possibly made on-site. The wrapping was very thick, and definitely itched that carb-scratch for some low-key food-happiness. The vinegar-y sauce it came with was enjoyable with it, but TBH the actual insides of the dumpling were pretty basic. No complaints, but no compliments either.
Side of rice: nothing fancy; the grains were thin and overall it didn't taste that amazing, as far as rice goes. If you're looking for sticky sweet white rice,...
Read moreThe cook have been really consistent with the food preparation. Each visit has produced quality food. I’m hoping to shift into seafood and the soup menu in the near future.
