Best Cantonese food around. Our go to place. This is as good as you can get in the area. Unlike other Chinese restaurants nearby the food is authentic Cantonese with a few obligatory dishes that satisfy Caucasian tastes. Walk in and the diners are 90% Asian. Good indication you're in the right place. The seafood is very fresh. Had salt and pepper prawns last night and they were perfectly prepared. Lightly battered, not oily, crispy on the outside, large and sweet as always. Added some beef chow fun, soup of the day and sauteed mustard greens with garlic. Enough for three. We've been regulars for 30 plus years, going back to when they were on El Camino near San Antonio and have never had any dish that didn't satisfy us. You simply can't go wrong here. The banquet menus are written both in Chinese and English. If you're with a group of at least 6-8 people you should experiment. You'll be in for a real treat from soup to dessert.

After over 30 years, Hong Kong has new owners. We've eaten in on one occasion and have had takeout twice. Two takeaways ... there are some new items on the menu and items that we've ordered many times in the past are just as good as they've always been (sigh of relief)! Tried a chef's specialty crispy tamago tofu with mushrooms and bok choy. Perfectly done. Some wait staff have been retained and there are some new people including a manager type person named Raymond. I mentioned that we had been frequent customers for years and was happy that the place was in good hands. He said he would do his best to always take good care of us. Wasn't expecting that but it was nice and seemed genuinely sincere. All but two large banquet tables were full and those were marked as reserved. All but one table were Asian customers. A good sign that they will do well and continue with good quality and excellent...

I went there after a co-worker advised me to check it out, claiming they had good portions, great food, and competitive pricing. It turns out this co-worker was a vegetarian, and guess which part of my dinner I didn't like? :)

I ordered the Pineapple Shortribs, Potstickers, and a side of white rice: $23

That ended up being a lot of food. Definitely enough for 2 in that order.

Pineapple Shortribs: mediocre. Very little flavor, very fatty, and an annoying dish to eat due to the rib-minefield scattered throughout varying chunks of meat. I had 3 or 4 pieces and then threw it away. I wouldn't even offer it to my co-workers; I would have been embarrassed if they tried it.

Potstickers(6): These were actually really good and hearty. One of these orders is more than enough for a whole meal. It ended up being mine, and I'm not a person whose stature let alone appetite could be described as "small". These potstickers seemed possibly made on-site. The wrapping was very thick, and definitely itched that carb-scratch for some low-key food-happiness. The vinegar-y sauce it came with was enjoyable with it, but TBH the actual insides of the dumpling were pretty basic. No complaints, but no compliments either.

Side of rice: nothing fancy; the grains were thin and overall it didn't taste that amazing, as far as rice goes. If you're looking for sticky sweet white rice,...

  1. order to go - Chicken fried rice, Generals Chicken and Mongolian beef. That was awesome. Fried rice was balanced and good variety of eggs with veggies. Generals chicken was off the hook. Light fluffy batter with the sauce on the side. Sweet, slight sour and nice spice. I mean nice, not over powering. The Mongolian beef was average, it had good flavor with dark sauce and diced peppers. I’m use to it served on crunchy fried white rice noodles. But still good.
  2. visit to go- was Generals Chicken and Fried rice. Still awesome and great taste. Not over powering
  3. to go- Mu-shu shrimp 4)chicken fried rice and Generals chicken 5)Mongolian beef and shrimp fried rice 6-8) chicken fried rice , Generals chicken and Mongolian beef- this time it had some more white crunchy noodles under the beef.
  4. Aug 2018 chicken fried rice and Generals chicken

The cook have been really consistent with the food preparation. Each visit has produced quality food. I’m hoping to shift into seafood and the soup menu in the near future.

Trip 10) stay at the restaurant; ordered fried shrimp, Mongolian beef and chicken fr ties rice. It was early evening dinner time. The food and service was great. Absolutely it was the...

Pros: - Food is not overly salty, oily, or heavy. It's perfectly seasoned, uses just a normal amount of oil, and tastes very authentic and home-made. - lots of free goods! I've gone twice and both times we've gotten free soup as an appetizer and free dessert at the end. The free soup was actually quite a large bowl, and while there weren't that many items in the soup, the broth tasted quite good. The dessert was a sweet red bean soup with little tapioca balls. It was a bit sweet for me but still a nice treat to cap off a good meal. Cons: - Food is chopped up into huge industrial size pieces, which makes it a little hard to eat. Specific food we got: - on choy (chinese watercress, hollow hearts): very good, not oily, and doesnt seem like they used msg. Crunchy and savory - Fish in clay pot: Lots of huge fish chunks that were very well seasoned. Tofu was a bit bland. - Pepper beef: doesn't taste sickeningly sweet like a lot of other restaurants do. It's very savory and well cooked, although not very peppery at all. It is a bit cornstarch heavy. - Beef stew in clay pot: delicious! Definitely a must try, the beef is so tender and juicy, and the daikon is very nicely cooked (not too mushy, not too crunchy).

If you're starving at 3 PM and all the other Chinese restaurants in Palo Alto are taking their afternoon break, this is is the place to go. The food here is your typical Canton-style dishes. We had the beef stew in claypot and the Peking duck. The beef stew was really good. The flavors of the beef, radish, and green onions really blend well together and the stew itself goes great over rice. On the other hand, the Peking duck was some of a disappointment. As usual, it came with the Chinese-styled pancakes, shredded green onions, and the sauce. You're supposed to put the duck into the folded pancake with green onions and slather it sauce. The problem is that they didn't remove the bone from the duck, making it hard to eat it the way you're supposed to. Overall, was a pleasant experience. The waiter was friendly and gave us complimentary appetizer soup and desert soup too.
