Really mixed feelings about this place. I've been a few times to order full pies, and while the flavors/topping variety of the pizza is excellent, the temperature of the pizza and reliability of service is really inconsistent.
First time I came here, I got my pizza pretty quickly, it came out hot, and I thought I had found my new favorite pizza place.
Second time, I ordered ahead and the estimated wait was pretty far out, like 50min. I got to the store and they quoted me the same amount of time roughly. That's fine, I sat down at the table right across from the counter and waited for them to call my name. 40min go by and they haven't called my name. Finally I get up to ask them about my order and they tell me it's been done a while - I get it and it's completely cold. Despite sitting 10 feet in front of them, none of the employees remembered me, called my name, or wondered why a customer was sitting there for so long without food. Not a good service experience. I complained and they did refund the order, which I appreciated, so I decided I'd be back to give them another chance.
Recently I come back and again I've ordered online, with a ~50min quoted wait time. I get to the store and they quote me the same time. Again that's fine, so I sit down to wait, after asking them to let me know when it's done. About 5min before the time I check with them just to be safe, they tell me it's just being finished up and they'll bring it out. Immediately after they bring it out, we sit down to eat, and again the food is not hot. One pizza is kind of warm, the other pizza is cold. I don't know how that happens when I'm sitting right there and I eat it immediately; I guess it sat out waiting for toppings after it came out of the oven?
This place charges $36 for a pizza, takes close to an hour to make a couple pies, then the food somehow comes out cold. The service seems disheveled and consists mostly of teenagers, that while polite, don't seem to be very organized. Sad to say I won't be back to this place that I thought was my new...
Read moreThis looks to be a new restaurant in the area. They make NY style pizzas and pan pizzas and also offer gluten free crust as well as salads. They also seem to have rotating specials with a vegetarian and meat based options as well as a salad. Decided to give it a try and ordered a vegan pizza online after confirming their crust and pizza sauce is vegan. The GF dough is not vegan.
Got a pan pizza half and half. It is supposed to be 12 " x 18" in size. Ordered half Chorizo con papa without the meat and dairy and the vegetarian special Melanzana again without the cheese. The instructions did go through correctly perhaps and when I went to pickup, the melanza half did have cheese on it. So made a new one for me.
The crust for pan pizza is on the thicker side and chewy and had been cut into 6 pieces. I like the Melanzana half a lot but wasn't a fan of the other half. I expected the potato to be in the form of thin slices, which is how I have usually seen at any other pizza place which uses potato as a topping, rather than big pieces similar to what you get in a breakfast potato hash dish. The total came to $35 before tax and tip and feel its a bit pricey for a pizza.
They have outdoor and indoor dining option. They also have most of their pizzas available by the slice, in the store but none of them would be vegan. Would probably try again if it was priced a...
Read morei've always wanted to try square pizza and am so glad i did at state of mind slice house!
// ambiance // located off el camino in palo alto--i've driven by here so many times but never noticed it. there is a small parking lot. they have both outdoor and indoor seating.
// service // there are a few menus to look at on the counter when ordering. we came around 8pm and saw limited pizzas in the display case, but the employee said we could still order any slice and it would come out in around 10 minutes.
// insomniac square slice ($6.25) // classic pizza with pepperoni and sausage. i got the square slice and was glad because it was so crispy on the edges and chewy in the middle. the slice came out warm and tasted fresh. i think the triangle slices are a lot thinner crust with a thick crust at the edge.
these slices are also huge and very filling. i only ordered one slice since i was getting dessert after and it was enough. if you are hungry, i imagine two slices is enough too.
// would i reorder/return? // i would come back when im craving a big, satisfying slice of pizza. who can beat a $6 dinner in...
