my wife had made reservations for a honeymoon weekend for us. we had to cancel the first night on our way back from the wedding due to how late we were getting back to our home. no sooner had we made it home that night i had to go back out to perform a wellness check on my elderly father and stepmother(who is disabled) which after was done put me arriving back home after midnight. this was friday cancelling for saturday night. had to cancel the second night, which was sunday night on the day of before we left home, when our roommate, who was one of my groomsmen, broke down on his way to work and i went to get him and help him with repairing his vehicle that afternoon and evening. dont recall for sure if we got someone on the phone both times but all we were told the one time we did was that we would lose the reservation, there was no mention of cancellation deadlines or fees. everything fine from there until monday night, 1/3/22, when i see a charge of over $200 appear on my bank registry. look into it and lo and behold. was charged as if i had come and stayed both nights but hadnt even set foot on the property. at this point calling turned from no information to "this is our policy" left via voicemail and then back to not being able to be contacted via phone. now i understand having to run a business, and that a bnb is a small business, but if you dont charge the deposit upfront and dont make any mention of the cancellation fess when called, then how can you in good conscience charge after the fact, let alone charge the full amount. i also had to search the website to find the notice about cancellation fees, it wasnt on the first page nor really in good print. would classify it in the category of fine print which is easily overlooked. not to mention keeping some kind of bizarre hours so that you cant be reached via telephone during normal business hours. i had let my wife plan this part of our trip and didnt really research what she found while coordinating the rest of our plans for the wedding. while your website makes the place seem lovely i know now to double check research. had i read the reviews ive seen posted we wouldve steered well clear and i advise anyone else do the exact same. i am disappointed in how this has resolved so far but if this is the only bump in the road my wife and i experience this early into our marriage then we will...
Read moreWe absolutely loved our stay. Upon walking into the house there was a feeling of peace that seemed to be radiating off the place, and immediately put me at ease. It felt as though we had traveled back in time when entering the main room and walking on those old wooden floors with all that period furniture, soft lighting, and quiet hum of old music. The skeleton key that locked our bedroom door really added to the effect.
Our bedroom was quite comfortable. We slept like logs on the bed surrounded by antique furniture with carved wood and antique glass. I had read a complaint in a previous review about road noise, but we found this not to be an issue. There was a fan in the room that would have worked fine as white noise if it had been a problem. Barbee said she had been operating the B&B for many years, and the way that every detail seemed to be thought of, it showed.
The breakfasts were wonderful. Everything was so delicious. I think that we could not have paid for a better breakfast at a restaurant, and certainly not one served on china and a lace tablecloth. One of the mornings my five-year-old ate a large pile of scrambled eggs, bacon, and 2 of the best biscuits we have ever had - an impressive feat for someone with such a small tummy. It was just that good.
The location was excellent. If the bridge to Pensacola Beach had been repaired from hurricane damage, the location would have been perfect. We loved that all the downtown places were within walking distance. The streets were very peaceful at night and we felt quite safe.
My only regret is that with my two children with me I did not have time to sit on the porch swing or wonder around that peaceful main room, book in hand, just idling...
Read moreWe were extraordinarily disappointed. My wife and I wanted to have my photos taken at this venue and communicated with the owner by phone and email numerous times over several weeks prior to our event. We were told by the owner that arriving early would be fine and that having several groomsmen there to change and have pictures taken would be fine. On the DAY OF OUR WEDDING I showed up and the house was locked, no one was answering the phone number associated with the B&B, and I stood outside in 105 degree heat (along with my groomsmen) trying to figure out alternatives while my wife wept over the phone as I informed her that the owner had NO IDEA WHO I WAS OR WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT!!! Totally unacceptable!!!!!!! On finally gaining entry to a room we had already paid for, the owner chided is for using a bathroom in the hallway ( I had 6 groomsmen that needed space to get ready), we were also scolded for using a second fan to cool off the upper floor which was sweltering hot. The photographers wanted to step into a second upstairs room because of the excellent light, which was again frowned upon. The group I brought was quiet, respectful, and clean. We were treated horribly, the plans my wife prepared and communicated clearly and repeatedly were completely ruined, and the experience came perilously close to ruining our special day. That is why I amgiving a one star review. We paid for an entire night$140 and were so disgusted by the entire fiasco that we dropped off the keys and spent the...
