Hands down the worse hotel experience I have had!
Booked a room through Expedia (first mistake) at FP Sheraton as my son had a sport event nearby and could not book at the Holiday Inn with his team as the HI was fully booked. Arrived/checked-in at FP Sheraton only to discover that HI did have a room available. I understood my chances for canceling with FP Sheraton were slim but worth a try. I spoke with the front desk to which I was advised they understood and would be happy to help me but I had to go through Expedia to cancel. Called Expedia, waiting for 30 minutes only to find out when Expedia contacted FP Sheraton front desk, they denied the cancelation. Spoke to the lady at the front desk who spoke to Expedia regarding her denial. She stated she did not deny the claim but simply read a statement that passed responsibility to Expedia. I left the immediate lobby area to call Expedia again, waited on the phone while Expedia called the hotel again only to hear the front desk verbally deny my cancelation. No statement reading, simply "like I said the first time, he should have planned better. We will not approve his cancelation at all!" I was furious that she lied to me. When I approached her again, she refused to acknowledge her lie and told me "I should plan better. I can either leave or enjoy my stay." Since I was there for my son's event, I had no other recourse.
Also discovered FP Sheraton does not serve breakfast. Just Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches you buy at a grocery store. Add to this, they're charging a near 250% markup on cheap sandwiches. But hey, they have a full bar open in the evenings. Bad post-Covid form, Sheraton!
As we were pressed for time the first night to meet up with my son's team (their hotel was 30 minutes away) because of the reservation debacle, we unloaded our personal items and left. After arriving back at the hotel around 9:30pm, my son wanted to shower. He discovered the shower didn't work because the faucet stopper wouldn't stay up. We were exhausted from driving six hours to Philly and the team activities that evening. We both decided to sleep and change rooms in the morning. I woke up at 05:30 to request a new room. The front desk lady wanted to send a maintenance person "to see if they can fix your shower". I politely requested a new room as we needed to shower and didn't have time to wait for maintenence. After four times going back and forth with her trying to push maintenance on us, she finally conceded and gave me a new room on the first floor. She took my old key from me; when I asked for it back, she told she will escort me back to my old room to get my things. I told her no as my son was sleeping and I needed to workout before waking him. Took my new key, worked out, then went back to my room. Moved outr things to the new room.
In the new room, I immediately noticed there was mold in the shower and some kind of vent in the shower with what looked like dried paper wads coming out the vent and stuck around it. I checked closely but certainly had creeper vibes as I couldn't tell if a camera was in the vent. Also, the sink would not drain. On our way out to get breakfast before my son's game, I told the front desk about the issues. The lady (different person at this time) said she would have maintenance look at the issues. No one ever came as the sink remained clogged for the remainder of our stay, the mold was not abated, and the vent debris was still present on the upper shower walls.
The level of readiness/cleanliness was unacceptable. The staff professionalism was abhorrent. I will never stay at this location again nor recommend the FP Sheraton to...
Read moreI have to give a two out of five stars due to the bahavior of the bartender, but I will get to that in a minute.
The room was okay. I can see that a half hearted attempt at remodeling was made with some serious cutting of corners to save cost.
Our room door would not close without some good effort and the door itself appeared to have been damaged due to someone prying it open at some point and the damage was just painted over. Anything that could have been painted had been painted several times over to the point of looking sloppy. Touch-ups were done with paint that did not even patch the previous coat.
The bathroom had mold and mildew in every corner, the grout was visibly filthy, and there was visible dirt and hair in the corners of the bathroom. If you are sensitive to fungal spores (allergies or asthma) avoid the hotel altogether. The halls smell of mildew.
The window sills and frames do not appear to have ever been dusted or wiped down and the window was loose. I'm sure I could remove the window with little effort and no tools.
The desk beneath the tv has seen better days. Much of the finish was scraped away and there were splinters alonge the bottom edge where the chair had been beaten into it over the years. At the back edge of the desk appears to be some odd form of decoration using old plastic air conditioning vents which were broken and missing vanes.
The bed was ok and the linens/blankets were comfy. I had to remind myself that I was just sleeping there.
Disturbing events in the bar - Several guests were watching the DNC speeches and did not appear to be disturbing anyone in the bar. The bartender began turning the tv volume down on them. All the way down. The guests turned it back up and the bartender turn the sound off again saying that the bar was closing. Meanwhile, she is still serving and selling alcohol to guests. When the guests turned up the volume again, the bartender stormed over, took all of their drinks, and began shouting at the guests. The guests asked what was going on and the bartender began cursing at them and called the manager and security. The manager pulled the bartender aside, security seemed puzzled and just asked that the guests not engage the bartender, and the guests remained. The situation was handled horribly and it must have been humiliating for the guests. Security and the guests seemed to be the only rational parties involved.
I really hope that, in the future, the staff focuses on the guest experience and exceeding expectations rather than watching the clock and trying to get rid of people...
Read moreI recently stayed here with my mother as she had medical appointments in Philadelphia and we are from out of town. My mom uses a walker and has mobility issues, so we had requested a handicap accessible room (first floor would have been nice but not required, just wanted wide doors, etc. and room for her rolator) but were told none were available. We arrived late at night and were able to check in (we let them know we’d be late) which was nice. However, when we got to our room and unpacked, there was a blood stain on the floor! There were several strange pink stains all over the carpet throughout the room, but right under the desk there was a dark red blood stain with dribbles that someone had clearly tried to scrub up as the carpet fibers were messed up. Since it was late and we were tired after a long drive and had already unpacked, I decided to wait until the next day to mention it.
As we got in late and restaurant in the hotel was closed, I left my mom alone to go quickly grab dinner down the street. While I was waiting for my food, my mom calls me in a panic and says the fire alarm is going off and she is unable to reach the front desk so she can’t even determine if it’s a real emergency or if something else triggered it. Due to her walker she is unable to take the stairs down from the third floor and would have trouble even making it to the elevator on her own. Since they wouldn’t answer my calls to the front desk either, I had to leave the restaurant and go all the way back, and found the lobby full of guests and the smell of smoke coming from the elevator. Eventually we were all told that we can go back to our rooms safely but that at least one of the elevators will remain off. It would have been nice if one of the staff members could have at least answered the phone to tell me this information so I could have let my mom know and gotten my dinner.
Not the worst of all the problems we had, but the toilet was also running almost the entire time we were there which kept us up all night until they could have someone come fix it, and it started running again not too long after that anyway.
When I told the front desk about the blood upon checkout she did not seem that worried about it and didn’t apologize. She did write it down on her notepad so hopefully that means it will be cleaned before the next guest.
We will be traveling to the area several more times over the next few months to visit doctors but will definitely be finding somewhere...
