Holiday Inn Express Ramsey-Mahwah by IHG — Hotel in Ramsey

We stayed here for 2 nights over a weekend. The hotel is small and on a major highway with alot of options for evening dining close by. Our room did face the highway but we only faintly hear some trucks go by, could not hear any major traffic. If you live in a city this will be quieter. The room and bathroom was small but very clean. The sink is not in the bathroom but out in the main room. This took a little getting used too but no complaints. The pillows on the bed were very small and not comfortable at all. This would be the only downfall to our stay. But we anticipated this from reading previous reviews and brought our own pillows. The bed was comfortable to sleep on. We have slept on better hotel beds but not many. Breakfast was the standard expanded continental hotel breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, several cerals, toast, muffins, tea and coffee. No waffle maker but they did have a pancake maker. There is no exercise room but you can use Retro Fitness down the street. Its as easy as showing up and showing your room key. Thats it, then you will have access to a full gym. If you want to do cardio go into the Theater Room. Treadmills and exercise bikes in front of a huge tv screen. They were showing a Steve Martin movie and time flew right by.

The staff here was extremely friendly and helpful. The front desk staff went out of their way to make sure everything was going well during our stay. The woman working in the breakfast area kept everything clean, hot and well stocked. We did not have any interaction will housekeeping.

I love Holiday Inn Express hotels. When I travel they are my go-to hotel. You never have to worry about cleanliness or run-down conditions. The pillows are cleverly marked as "firm" and "soft" on the pillowcases and there is plenty of them. A "soft" on top of a "firm" is like heaven. Coupled with the fresh, clean bedspread and soft, yet supportive matress, I sleep better than at home. The Continental breakfast is second to none. I defy you to find another hotel that has a spread this good and changes it up a little everyday. So, if you are staying for 3 days, you will have some constants, but you will have some variables to keep it interesting which is great. Unfortunately at this location, we did not have a great check-in experience because the young man at the desk was completely unwelcoming and borderline unfriendly. I saw him working another day that we were there as well and in total I never saw him smile once at anyone during his interactions with us or other guests. He really should not be on the front desk as the face of this location! My only true negative thing to say about this chain in general is that the refrigerators--and I've been saying this for years-- are never very cold, and they don't have a freezer! It seems like a small thing, but as a road traveler, when I can't freeze my ice packs for the next leg of my trip, it is a real issue! It's not a deal breaker at this point, but if I hear of a hotel that is as clean, modern and comfortable and has refrigerators that have a freezer compartment, I will...

DANGER PLEASE BEWARE !! Place smells like and India restaurant thats cooking rats for diiner 24 hours a day literally! Most discusting smell I have ever experienced im my life all through out every hallway and hotel!! Bathrooms and the rooms are disgusting flithy dirty, and the rooms are tiny old and outdated and theres a constant noise from the highway all night long. I also saw what I what I would consider a drug infested guest basically asking if I happen to need anything! As crazy as that scarey experience was when I let the manager/franchise owner who was at the front desk at the time named (Apurva) absolutely thought nothing of it and and basically brushed it of like this was an ever day normalcy! He was extremely rude and extremely arrogant about his authority with my horrible experience and my complaints and basically said to bad that I booked it though a 3rd party take it up with them! I never had an experience in my entire life an this, and have encountered such unprofessionalism from a franchise owner/manager in my entire life!
