So glad to have found this place. We enjoyed a lovely DINNER there last week. We ordered house red (cab sauv) and it was quite good and they afforded a generous pour. I had the house special "Seafood Gratinee" and it was soooo good. Scallops, shrimp and Haddock in a creamy sauce over linguini. It came with two wedges of garlic bread. It was wonderful, we'll come back for that dish for sure! Hubby had the Haddock Au Gratin. He said it was good, however, it comes with choice of two sides and he made the mistake of choosing one side as a side salad and cup of clam chowder as the other. Naturally, both of those sides preceded the meal. So, disappointingly, when his meal arrived it was limited to the piece of white haddock on a white plate, no garnish, no color whatsoever. The presentation was really lacking "inspiration" in terms of plating, but we realize it was my husband's fault for not thinking his ordering through! His bad. Regardless, had the chef added even a colorful garnish it might have changed hubby's perception of his "dinner". The clam chowder was really delicious and better than most. Thick, flavorful and hearty. We'd come back just for that clam chowder, it was that good! We splurged and shared a desert of homemade brownie ala mode...it was excellent and plentiful. The SERVICE was good, our waitress was very sweet, friendly and competent. Two different hostesses tended to us and they too were very friendly. It appeared that the wait staff were not required to wear any sort of uniform, rather they were dressed very casually seemingly in street clothes which sets the tone for the dining experience, but not in a good way. Presentation is everything they say, and I believe the presenter is included in that sentiment. I always prefer to see the wait staff dressed similarly, even if it's in a cool casual outfit. Khaki shorts, cool white shirts, white sneakers, perhaps matching aprons. It just imparts a touch of formality. The ATMOSPHERE is that of an old country inn. With old inn's comes exhaustive amounts of upkeep and Governor's Inn is no exception. There were several areas that a discerning eye would identify as areas that could use sprucing up. Understandably the revenue has to support that level of maintenance and it may be that the Inn is operating at a delicate balance in this regard. The night we went there it had been raining relentlessly all day and the puddles in the parking lot were like small ponds. The parking lot and paved surfaces were suboptimal, older patrons should get dropped off at the door. The dining room was quaint but there was a red paper lantern hanging over one table that was just soooo out of place in a New England Inn, it's really got to go! Lol. Nonetheless, it was a lovely meal and we will be returning so that constitutes a positive review! We'll especially look forward to coming back to enjoy some of the entertainment we saw advertised, it appears that this Inn really keeps busy with events and entertainment, it has a fun vibe. Again, we're glad to have...

No, Governor Kelly Ayotte didn't welcome us or say hi once during our stay, but I'm sure she's very busy running the state. No worries. She left her Inn in amazing hands. The Inn's staff is warm and welcoming. And Kelly made up for it further by booking us into the President's Room, where we assume President Thomas Whitmore sat at the same desk to pen the speech that inspired the world to defeat the aliens invading Earth. The room was roomy and the bed is comfy. Couldn't be better.
Also, the Inn is walking distance from downtown with shops and breakfast like the Busy Bee cafe, whose staff was also amazing and hilarious.
And the icing on the cake -- The Inn has a rocking building brother next door called The Garage, where you can stroll over, hang out and watch live music! We had a blast drinking and hanging with great people enjoying the conga beat covers of the FreeWill duo.
Alas, the next day checking out I forgot to pack shorts and notebooks I left in the top drawer. But the staff came to my aid! When I called a few hours later after the forgotten items flashed into my mind driving down I-95 to Boston, they already had everything packed up. They said they'd mail it to me Monday. No problem at all. Just had to give them my card to charge for shipping. Amazing!
I can't say enough good things about the Governor's Inn. Our only regret is missing Yappy Hour, their dog-inspired happy hour on the front lawn. If you're visiting the area, go with this local treasure over a chain. You won't be...
Read moreMy brothers and I were searching for a place to host a Life Celebration for my recently departed Mom. A friend in the area suggested we look at The Governor's Inn which we did.
Since we all live in Colorado and the establishment was in NH, it was greatly appreciated to be able to get a pretty good sense of their facilities from their website. My first impression was that this indeed was the place for our gathering.
When I called and spoke with Event Coordinator Extraordinaire, Lisa; she listened to my needs and made sure that we rented the right room for the affair and was extremely consistent and prompt with her communications. Second Impression: Fabulous!
When I checked into the facility the day before the party, I was pleased to see the entire establishment was humming with people and the room they put me in was charming. I met the owner, Anthony and he was friendly and helpful as I checked in and double checked on some of the party's details.
That night was spent in their bar socializing with my brothers and some old friends from the area. All personnel was friendly, competent, and welcoming. Third Impression: Grateful for the recommendation!
The party day went without a hitch, everyone was helpful and respectful of what the party was about. What was also lovely, was that there were many folks from out of town attending the event and stayed overnight at the Inn. It was so handy for folks to be able to stay on the premises in my opinion.
I would recommend this establishment to anyone and am so thankful that someone...
