I've always had great experiences at Collectiques. For those concerned with selling to them, I have taken Ataris to them and they pretty much said due to the market I would have better luck selling on Ebay, which I did. I didn't hold a grudge or felt like I was being ripped off because they told me that. If you want you can see what they'll give you but this business is trying to make money so of course they'll offer something on the low side but it may suit you anyway. It's tough being a small brick and mortar store. They're honest with you either way about buying and selling.
That's why I love buying from them. Mark is awesome and will gladly talk to you all day. I always find something I like there and would happily buy from him each time for several reasons. I like Ebay, but a small store like this is better for several reasons:
Product in hand the day you bought it. You can inspect said product. Face to face interaction with excellent staff. Negotiable prices. Support a small business that is really trying to continue providing treasures to customers. Don't have to deal with shipping handlers drop kicking your precious game/item. Talking with other customers. Recommendations from staff Easy to exchange in the off chance something doesn't work or is missing. This rarely happens but if it does the exchange is handled well. This happened once for me but it was my own carelessness, Mark ameliorated the issue quickly. Feeling happy! When was the last time you genuinely felt joy buying something on eBay? Most of the time you give them money, a week later you receive the item. Typically there isn't even a real message sent.
It can be cheaper on eBay but not always. I would gladly pay a little more for any of the above reasons. This is an awesome store that brings back buckets of nostalgia for me. I'm a grown up kid who loves all this stuff and I'm glad there are still stores like this around. I look forward to every trip up to Rochester and happily drive 45 minutes to relive...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePurchased a ps3 on Tuesday. Purchase was through FB messenger and a phone call and had to be curbside due to pandemic restrictions in place. System was handed to me through car window, not bagged or boxed. Ps3 was functioning fine in offline mode as a disc game was used. 3 days later we decided to enter ps screen name and use online capabilities. A ps update was needed in order to access online. But the update would not complete and got stuck in a continuous loop along with an error message. Also noticed that the hard drive had not been wiped clean from previous owner and the system had unofficial modifications on it. Most likely why it wouldn't update as illegal ps modifications were on the console. Promptly emailed owner only after we extensively researched issue. Only a new hard drive and a USB stick with latest update would fix issue. Owner immediately stated we were at fault and any resolution was now void because we downloaded something to system!! After again explaining how it works on ps his only resolution was to drop off console, leave it for a couple of weeks, he'd have an associate look at it to try and 'fix it' but there were NO guarantees! Ask about return policy and he said 'all sales were final' which is not legal in this state if a customer receives broken or damaged goods, new or used! Owner stated I was arguing with him when I asked about a return and told me he would work with reasonable people and that he'd no longer reply to me! I was completely courteous in my typed convo with him and his responses were very rude unhelpful and unprofessional. I'm working on ways to get my money back. So...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have mixed feelings. The attendants and even the guy who I think is the manager is really nice. However, sometimes, when talking about products or prices, they can be really rude or even condescending. The store, however, is set up nicely, a variety of unique items to look over really keeps me coming back. However, I do agree with others on here: it's a bit pricey. Some of these items (like some video game memorabilia) it looks like he googles or goes on ebay, sees what people are asking, and he doesn't budge below that, but he has little experience on what this stuff is ACTUALLY selling for. Any sign of haggling or questioning of a price will result in a cold attitude.
However, all this is tossed away in the next visit, good service, friendly conversation, etc. He also isn't afraid to give any attitude he receives, which I have witnessed. This ain't gamestop. So, if that helps or hinders your choice, that's how it is.
Bottom Line: It's in the name people. It's collectibles and Antiques, that's how he sees his wares. There are toys, video games, movies, but bottom line they are unique pieces from all over bought as collectibles and will be...
