This hotel is beautiful, luxurious and has stunning views of Rockport Harbor. I would have given it 5 stars, except for,the fact that the restaurants are understaffed and not well run. First the best part. The room was just gorgeous, with a balcony overlooking the harbor, a large sitting area between the balcony and the bedroom and a comfortable bedroom complete with gas fireplace for cold nights. The front desk staff was terrific, handling check in smoothly and providing luggage service to our room. There is an ample parking area out back with direct access to the lower elevator lobby.|We slept well and enjoyed the use of our room. The hotel is well located with easy access to Rockland and Camden attractions, parks and restaurants.|The restaurants at the hotel left something to be desired. We made dinner reservations for 2 at the Atrium, their fine dining restaurant. It is rather small and there were only a couple of two person tables, neither of which was well located. We had a choice. A table by the wall near a family with screaming children and a table closer to that family. We were told that we could not be seated and any of the empty four tops since they all were reserved. We elected to,leave and ultimately went to the lobby restaurant, the Oak Room. Dinner was not gourmet - fish tacos and pizza- but it was good and the service, while not great, was passable. The second night there we went to a great lobster pound for A fabulous Maine lobster dinner on the water. O|Wish I could say the same for breakfast. The first day we ordered omelets and told the waitress my wife could not tolerate pepper or other hot spores and to use no seasoning. When she bit into the omelet her mouth felt on fire. The waitress checked it out and returned to say all the vegetables and other ingredients put into the omelets were pre-seasoned. She sent it back for some scrambled eggs. The next day we just ordered eggs, mine which were over easy were runny. And the blueberry muffins were terrible. How can you ruin blueberry muffins in Maine? The service was sketchy. Not really the fault of the server. The one cook was plainly overwhelmed and there were not enough staff to competently serve the ...
Read moreI booked a room here for five nights in October as I was taking a class at Maine Media. The hotel was noticeably more expensive than any other place in Camden so I was expecting very good service and excellent food. I was expecting to have everything in the room be functioning and clean. This is not unreasonable considering the price. The people that work here try very hard, but the hotel apparently is understaffed. |Maid service is only available between certain hours and you have to ask for it even if you are staying for several days.|The food is really not good. I invited a friend for dinner last night and I was embarrassed to see what was served to her. It seems to be heavily breaded and overly sauced without much flavor and no apparent effort to have fresh ingredients and fresh salad. This was disappointing to me because I had planned on eating dinner here every night. ||Both televisions in the room did not function and despite the fact that the front desk person came up to try to fix them and claimed they were fixed, it took a lot of effort to get them to change channels and find the movies that I wanted. Local TV was even more impossible.||I liked my room, though I am tired of hotels painting rooms dark gray, and dark green because I find it really oppressive. Maine in the winter is already dark enough and there’s nothing wrong with a nice white. It makes everyone feel more cheerful. ||They claimed the room had a kitchenette, but there’s no toaster, which makes it difficult to make breakfast as most people do want to have toast in the morning. I was told by the front desk staff that I could buy the bread and take it to the kitchen and they would toast it for me. There is no room service.||All in all I would say that this hotel was pleasant but certainly did not deserve five stars. At every corner it seems the owner is trying to save money. I understand that given the times, but I think if you do that you have to...
Read moreI have mixed feelings regarding my stay here. This hotel is a nice hotel, especially for those who live out of state or in western or northern Maine looking for the coastal experience. It's probably not worth the price for in-staters or Eastern Mainers. At home, I can go 5 miles down the road in each direction and have the same view. I had a terrible personal experience getting food poisoning after eating in the Oak Room, so I'd suggest eating out. The following day, I decided to end my stay early when the internet went out, and I was still trying to recover. All I really had was watching TV without the energy to explore the area further. I got too inpatient just sitting in the bed and decided to just travel home. Also, without the tv or noise, the hotel can be quite noisy, so the dogs kept barking. When booking, they did not include my pet fees, which I explicitly discussed with them, so an additional fee was added to what I thought I'd be paying, albeit they only charged me for 1 dog. No other discount was offered given the stay and my early departure. That's fine. That is their policies, but typically, such a high-end, high paying hotel would consider the circumstances. It was a beautiful room, and staff were friendly, and some of those things were outside of their control, but I personally wouldn't pay this amount again for the hotel. But for those looking to escape up the mid-coast of Maine, I would suggest trying it out or trying to find something cheaper just depends on your budget and preference. Just eat out if you decide to stay here. Personally, if I had to do it again, I'd choose something cheaper and invest in experiences...
