We were staying in Camden and arrived at out hotel fairly late. We told the hotel owner we were celebrading out anniversary and asked asked about a place to have a nice "sit-down" dinner and were immediatley told that Ports of Italy was the place to go. they have an associated pizza shop connected to the building and initially wheni saw that part of the building, i was a bit worried abourt this being a nicer place (dont gewt me wrong... i love pizza, but i put a shirt on that had actual buttons... so i wanted some atmosphere and a waiter :-)). well the inside of the "non-pizza" resturant was great. just what i might have expected. they have an outdoor seating area (which was still being used in second week of september) and pleante opf semi-social distanced seating. The waiter and the (assumed) owner were chatting in italian when we walked in. Not that that makes the food good... but i felt it was a good sign :-). The food was geat. i couldnt make up myu mind between a basic bolognese and anohter main course... the waiter suggested that we get a half/kids sized bolognese as an appertizer which worked out great (we had not eater since breakfast and were pretty hungry. during dinner the table next to us had dessert and the the waiter informed them that there were no more cannolis, but he would go in the back and make one up for them... which he did. nice service. Everyone was friendly. the prices werent too bad for s good italian meal. When they saw we had a little extra sauice on our plates they brought extra bread (which was awesome.). I had cup of espresso and tiramisu for dessert. both were wonderful. Overall an excellent experience. would definitely...
Read moreDined here for the first time and was greeted by the most unfriendly host/owner we have ever encountered. Food was fine. Not great, but fine. We had salads and then waited 45 minutes for our meals. One of the dishes arrived cold. The real kicker was the scam with the bill. Waitperson came to the table with a hand-held mobile payment device. I looked at the bill and and all it showed was the food and drinks with a total of $159.00. I gave her my credit card. Three options for tip starting at 20% and higher. I pressed 20%. There was no submit button to see the final tally. Waitperson walked away and came back with my final receipt. The subtotal was 159. The tax was 12.72. The tip was listed as 39.75. Total bill 211.47. 20% of 159.00 is 31.80 NOT 39.75. (It's not the 8.00 I care about; it's the principal). The only thing that makes sense here is that the tip percentage was changed to 25% after the waitperson left the table. When I asked about it, she made somewhat of a scene suggesting I could leave her less of a tip. I tried to explain that, on principle, the bill was calculated wrong and that they should not do that. I told her she could keep the almost 40.00 tip but that I was not happy about what happed to our bill from the time it left our table to the final tally. NEVER again would we ever return to this establishment. They also tried to push more expensive water (bottled), wine (we ordered 2 glasses and she tried to convince us to just get a bottle) and dinners (you should really get the lobster) on customers....Shameful. Owner needs an extreme...
Read moreThis is the second time we've gone to eat here for dinner - the first time, the food was fine, barely any seasoning, average Italian food. They don't tell you that they charge $10 for the San pelligrino they leave on the table, they word it in a way that it's equivalent to getting still water. We were willing to accept that & remember for next time. We came back for our anniversary dinner & the server mentioned they have a truffle risotto as a special (not written on the menu) - she said we could have an appetizer portion if we wanted to try it. We got all of our food - again nothing to write home about (just average Italian food where you have to add your own salt & pepper), the risotto as well was pretty bland and had a few flakes of truffle shaved on top. When we got our bill in the end the risotto "appetizer" was $35... so something that is told is an appetizer portion is the same price as the filet mignon? After a back and forth with the manager, the owner took it off our bill. How do you except someone to guess the price of a half order of mediocre risotto & make it the most expensive thing on the menu ? Seems shady. For perspective the most expensive item on the menu is the filet mignon which is $44.00 the "full" portion of the risotto is $45.00....they should disclose the price and not use shady tactics to make...
