You could do a lot worse...
I always feel like when most people leave reviews, it's a lot more emotionally motivated, and a lot less motivated out of a desire to accurately and objectively convey your experience, and what someone actually wanting to stay at the hotel can experience.
The pros
The bed was solid. I had a king bed suite for the night, and the bed was not amazing, but definitely not bad at all, and better than even some nicer hotels that I have stayed at. It was a little on the firmer side, but I personally like a firm bed. If you can't stand a firm bed, I believe this bed would at least be tolerable for you. The bathroom was also nice, and clean. Other than some minor, yet noticeable, wear on the wooded frame of the sink, I thought it was very nice. I was not a big fan of the shower head though, which you could tell was installed with water conservation in mind. Which is fine, but the dismal stream of water coming out of it made it hard to rinse off all of my body efficiently. Mentioning the wear though, this brings me to my cons.
The cons
The poor lady running the reception desk seemed a bit overwhelmed by a system issue with the hotel's computers. She kept had to go back forth between the two available terminals. They probably need to revamp their system, or install new hardware. It took more than fifteen minutes to check in due to this issue.
This hotel is either due, or will be due for another renovation sometime (I hope) within the next couple years or so. The doors on the rooms, and to the bathrooms most notably appear very old, and likely as old as the hotel itself. The furniture shows a lot of wear around the edges, where it has been chipped off and worn away. The couch in the room seemed old, and a little more suspect than I cared to investigate. Needless to say, it was this dark green color that would do an excellent job of covering up any stains, if there were any, but definitely didn't seem to be in the best condition. There were a lot of dark spots on the carpet next to my bed as well, which seemed to be either from ink, grease, or most likely someone's bloody nose or something that just stained the carpet. Additionally, and more bizarrely, I'm about 90% sure there was a blood stain on curtains in my room...for some reason. Regardless, I believe this room in particular is in need of new carpet and new drapes. I stayed here as things were kind of starting to die down from the pandemic, so can't say much of anything about the facilities outside of the room, like the pool, excise equipment, etc. as they were closed.
The location, while convenient to the freeway, and roughly ten minutes from downtown, is not in the nicest area. It can be rather loud from the nearby traffic, and I would personally recommend asking for a room on the back side of the hotel away from the street if you can. Definitely don't try to walk anywhere near by, if you can, because I don't think it would be very safe. I'm grateful I didn't have to spend to spend a lot of time within the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
This is definitely not the worst place I have stayed from the Choice Hotel's chain, but I have definitely stayed at better places within that same family of hotels. I stayed at this particular location because it was convenient to the people I was visiting, and I had points to spend with Choice. If you can afford a little nicer place, or if you don't mind somewhere in a different location, I would suggest looking at newer, nicer, hotels in the area.
In summary, you can do a lot better, you can do a lot worse, but in general this place was fine. If they do get another renovation sometime within the next couple years or so, it will be very nice...
Read moreThe room I selected for my wife and myself is a handicap accessible one because she is pregnant. We were originally staying at her parents, but the abominations were very uncomfortable for her, so I booked here as last minute for a more comfortable bed. The bed far surpassed our expectations and is very comfortable. The pillows are odd, however, being perfect squares, so when my wife or I moved, our heads sunk in between the pillows, and we had to constantly readjust. The bedding is soft and warm, so just bring your own pillow. Sadly, that is the end of the goof sides. The room is not handicap accessible as advertised. It may have added rails, but that does NOT make it good for a wheelchair. I and my wife, thankfully, don't use a wheelchair but as a Fire Chaplain, I understand the struggles of the handicapped all too well. The microwave, coffee machine, ice bucket, and cups are above my wife's head, so it is definitely unreachable and unusable for someone disabled. The space between the bed and the wall is a tight fit due to the luggage bench and TV for a wheelchair, the closset is dark, and the shelf is too high as well. The bathroom door doesn't stay open om it's own and closes if you aren't holding it, and while annoying for someone not disabled, it can be a hazard for someone who is.
The bathroom shower has very high bathtub walls making it difficult for my pregnant wife to get in and out safely, let alone someone who would be more disabled, also I can't imagine a wheelchair user even getting in it in the first place without help. The shower head lacks adjustment, and the water setting just beats the heck out of you. The water made the skin on my feet turn yellow and the soap which normally when I stay at a confort is causes me no problem caused my arms and face to break out in horrible itchy red bumbs, then you have the danger that is caused by that cloth shower curtain. It does a poor job of keeping water in, so the floor is always soaked and is a massive slipping hazard. The water quality will leave your skin yellow if you enjoy long showers like I do to just relax and let the water wash over you, the chair is hard and uncomfortable, and the paintings have paint from the walls splattered on them.
The aircon cover was broke when we arrived, so a bright green and red light was our unwelcome nightlight.
The breakfast was enjoyable and a nice welcoming sight in a world where continental breakfast is dying out.
The lack of smoking makes me very happy due to my asthma. I need a non-smoking place to breathe. However, the indoor pool uses chlorine, which is the only thing you can smell throughout the whole building. This did not help me any and makes me wish it used salts instead. So sadly, we didn't get to enjoy the pool.
Overall, it wasn't a great stay, but it worked in a pinch for my wife and I, which I can appreciate because it made it so she could finally get wome rest on our trip. If all you are going to do is sleep, then this place is good for you. If you are handicapped in any way, however or pregnant, this place is a...
Read moreAs a State traveler my reimbursement rate is $95/night. When I checked in, I noticed that the nightly rate was higher than the allowance rate. I informed the front desk attendant, and he indicated that the manager would take care of this issue the following morning.
Two days later, before I went to work, I inquired at the front desk, and the correction had not taken place. I left a written note for the manager to call me, as well as, a written explanation of what had occurred. The manager did not return my call. Later in the afternoon I called the hotel and the young lady, whom I had spoken to in the morning at the front desk, provided a phone number for me to call. The phone number was for the California Department of General Services. When I spoke with the DGS employee she informed me that the hotel could make the change and that obviously DGS could not change the rate for the hotel.
I called the hotel back and yet another front desk attendant told me that he would speak to the manager to make the rate change.
Two days later I checked out of the hotel and the rate was never changed.
Upon checking out I left yet one more message for the manager to call me and/or to please make the rate change. I won't be reimbursed for anything higher than the the maximum $95/night rate allowance from the State.
As I write this note and after checking my credit card the transaction indeed was charged at the higher rate.
Since March 1, I have stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Sacramento for 27 nights. Literally 1/3 of the time. I am a business traveler that has attained the Platinum Choice Privileges status.
The hotel manager, never acknowledged my face-to-face, phone, or written requests. She has treated me as an insignificant and completely non-important person to this establishment. She wasted my time during the day. I was given a runaround by her staff. I wasn't acknowledged as a person, nor as a customer who stays at this hotel every week. I could just imagine the treatment if I did not have Platinum Choice Privilege rewards status...
NOTE: I made the reservation and the mistake is mine to own, however, the complete lack of communication and the disrespectful silence by the manager is the reason to my complain. The staff were courteous to the extend of their dealings with me. The manager of this facility is unwilling to manage situations and take care of...
