As someone who travels exclusively for work and stays in many hotels, I thought based on the pictures and a decent 3.5 star public review, I’d be getting something clean enough to sleep in. But, I have never stayed in something so unclean in my life. I am on a trip with my parents who chose the lakefront view and I went with a courtyard. Which is why I haven’t moved hotels. Spending $916 for 3 nights (in an off season) is a hefty bill to pay for a quick weekend trip. When arriving you walk in to a room that doesn’t have a pleasant smell, Many walls un-painted, bugs everywhere, bug GUTS and blood on all the walls, a mini fridge that makes excessive amounts of noise throughout the day, an extremely old chair and a very dirty bathroom. The smell goes away when you have the air on (24/7) but the rest of this stuff is here to stay. When taking our first shower we saw hair from past guests (which we left) as well as an exhaust fan about to fall off the ceiling. The following morning I noted that I wanted my room cleaned at the front desk. I said specifically that there was hair in the shower that was not ours and the shower needed cleaned. We were gone for 9 hours and when we came back all that was noticeably worked on was that they made the bed. Meaning the hair and all prior dirty items were still dirty. I then went back the next day and did the same thing again and it was the same process. As someone who stays in hotels in Vegas, LA, Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Kansas City and many more big cities I have never had an establishment have unfinished rooms for guests to stay in even if undergoing renovations. I would complain about the midge flies more but they’re native but they’ve done nothing to fix the problem, so at night we’ll have 50+ on our door where we’ll need to hurry up open and run in. We’ll then have 10 minimum to kill prior to getting situated. I was very disappointed in this establishment. I would not stay here again but would definitely come back to St. Ignace.

Excellent views. Kind and Courteous staff. Rooms are modern and as luxurious as can be expected for its price range... However, the pool here upon check-in is DISGUSTING. It has a serious algea problem and hotel maintenance/management doesn't seem to understand that no matter how much chlorine they dump into the pool, that doesn't make the water clean or refreshing. It's so gross that you can't even see your shins in the 3' end of the pool due to poor water clarity. Unfortunately, we will be checking out today instead of staying an additional night as previously planned. We specifically chose this hotel for its beautiful pool facility, what an incredible disappointment it was to walk into the pool house and see nasty water. Being that this is peak season and the pool is a huge selling point for this hotel, I expected MUCH higher cleanliness standards. Especially at $200+ per night. UPDATE: The manager chose this forum to respond to me rather than call me as requested, and I wasn't on property, we were touring the town waiting for your call that never came. So now I've been siting in your lobby waiting to speak to you in person regarding everything so I haven't witnessed ANYTHING being done to the pool... and this is CLEARLY a case of neglect. Further, I've been a pool owner for 25 years and it takes DAYYYS for a pool that large to turn that color. So nice try to stay on top of your Google reviews but you can go ahead and run that game elsewhere. And for those whose may be questioning... Please view attached CHECK OUT for today and note the comments.

Wish I could leave ZERO stars. We paid a premium for a lakefront room. What we were given is in fact a lakefront room, but you wouldn’t be able to see the lake through the one small window in a regular door, not a slider, that led to a tiny balcony. When you are in the room the window is so high that you can’t see the lake if sitting down. The window is SO small that it feels like you are in a dark cave even on a sunny day. To top it off, the room is directly above the exercise room and we were woken VERY early by the loud noise and vibration of those using the treadmill. To have paid this much money for such an awful room is beyond disappointing. In addition I left a cup of tea on my nightstand when I went out briefly for lunch only to return and find it had been discarded. I Ike a very special variety of tea sold by only one coffee shop in the area. Please, hotels, let your guests decide if they want their beverages discarded. When I went to the front desk to tell them how unhappy we were with the room and about my tea being tossed, the clerk Becca argued with me and as I was walking out the front door made a parting shot. I was very professional and respectful when I explained the difficulties we had. I couldn’t believe the disrespect shown to me and the lack of empathy.

Disappointed to say the least. We had several issues with our stay this past weekend. When we checked in we were initially checked into a room that didn't have hot water, despite the fact that staff was receiving complaints when we checked in about this issue. I overheard the complaints and asked they find us a different room. They then stated they would "upgrade" us to a suite. Which sounded nice but wasn't much of an upgrade. The check in staff seemed incapable of resolving issues and it was late (8ish pm) on a Friday so I had no faith in a resolution, so we took the "upgrade". When we made it into our room the air conditioning had been left on and it was 50 degrees outside, so we should've come into a warm room. When we tried to turn the heat on we were greeted by a burning smell. As we were sure the front desk wouldn't be able to handle this issue we just sucked it up and dressed warmly. Our 7 month old woke up 4 times due to the cold temperatures and my husband and I had to take turns snuggling him to keep him warm. This room was also dirty, the interior window sills were filled with dead bugs and we had to kill several spiders. We promptly asked if the hot water was on in the other building (where we were originally booked) the following day. We were advised it was fixed and our room was changed. We entered our new room to find it was still being cleaned, so we waited for the housekeeping staff members to finish it was clear that she was doing a poor job. She failed to clean the ice bucket, we found it to be full of coffee grounds. The hot tub in the room that she "cleaned" had hair all over the jets and she didn't run the tub or bleach it, just wiped it down. You could tell that she took one of the top blankets off the floor, it was wrinkled and dirty. At least the heat worked. When it came time to shower none of us could get hot water. I called the front desk and the girl said, its working just keep running the water. We left it running for 15 minutes and still no hot water. I ran out to get ice (only working ice machine was in the main building, we weren't told this upon checkin just had to figure it out). I advised the front desk that we still didn't have hot water. They (housekeeping staff members and check in staff member) both said it's working just keep running it. So I returned to our room and ran the water as they insisted for an additional 15 minutes, still no hot water. I finally gave up and microwaved water for a bath for my baby. We never did have hot water in that room. Upon checkout the following day I expressed all of my concerns and the front desk staff member stated all she could offer is 50% off the room stay for the 2nd night. I took that and I contacted corporate on Sunday September 30th. They responded on October 3rd starting somebody from St. Ignace baymont would contact us within a week. Fyi we stayed in room 202 the first night and 234 the second.

Side note, I read these reviews first and wanted to give the hotel the benefit of providing a better experience. Now I see they are seriously lacking. Hopefully they will resolve this issue with a refund. Save your money and...

Terrible experience with this hotel...We reviewed this hotel online and was going to book the advertised 1 King Bed, Lakefront, Pool Building, Non-Smoking room that was showing AVAILABLE. We decided to not book online, but go directly to the hotel to check in. We asked for this room type and was told that it was NOT AVAILABLE, even though we were showing Amie, the General Manager the availability on the direct hotel website. She proceeded to tell us that there must be a glitch in their system. We were offered a 2 Queen Room lakefront. We hesitantly took the room mainly to save time on having to look around for another room. We asked what would have happened if we would have booked the more expensive room and it was not available and she said that she would have had to change our room type. She later told us that our rate would have been adjusted...but how can you trust that? The hotel advertises free wifi….we had no internet service at all. We mentioned it to the front desk, and after resetting their router, we had maybe 10 minutes worth of internet connection. Amie blamed it on our Verizon service, but after checking out, we stepped outside of the breakfast area and had a full signal. This tells us that it is the hotel connection, not Verizon. We didn't have any trouble with our Verizon service for the 3 days that we spent in St. Ignace, Mackinac City or Mackinac Island....our service was just fine...except at this hotel. In addition, this hotel is not sound proof. For the 2 nights that we were there, it sounded like a herd of elephants walking around above us until at least 1 am. We asked to be moved the next morning, but was told there was nothing available. We were talking wiith some people at the firepit and they mentioned that they were offered a King size room the same day that we asked to be moved. We called the Wyndham corporate office to inform them about the website inaccuracy and we were told that it is the responsibility of the hotel manager to update the website's availability. When we spoke to Amie, the manager a few days after staying there about this, she again blamed it on a computer glitch. She made no effort to accommodate or make this right with us. We travel a lot and the few times that we have had issues with hotels, the management has usually at least offered extra points for reward members. We would not recommend this hotel....especially if you are booking online, don't expect to get what you pay for. The hotel is in need of updating and they are still charging a lot of money for the rooms. The only positive thing that we can say about this hotel is that the view is beautiful and there is a place to sit near the lake....

Booked online through hotel.com. Paid $140 for a premium king room based on good overall rating. Since we had spotty internet coverage, we were unable to read the actual reviews. Big mistake because the rating does not reflect the actual experience staying at this location, they are inflated. Had we read the recent reviews for the period of our stay, we would not have booked this place.

This place is dated, filthy and gross. Our "premium room" was on the end next to a busy, noisy freeway. Worse yet, our room is covered in flies. We can't enter or exit the room as the door is covered in flies. The ceiling, walls, TV, lamps, bed - EVERYTHING is covered in flying insects. We can't sleep for them crawling everywhere, we can't watch the TV because it's covered, we can't turn the lights on or relax at all. The most upsetting is that the hotel is aware of this apparent Michigan lake phenomenon, but did not warn us upon check-in or give us the opportunity to book elsewhere. When we arrived, the door was covered with dead flies, which was concerning. We had been traveling and needed to eat, so we went out for an hour for dinner and when we returned at 10pm we found our room door covered in live flies. There was no way to enter without them swarming in. They appear to be coming in through the air conditioning unit as well.

Calling the front desk resulted in a response of "did you open your door?" Well yes, how else could we enter the room? We're not from Michigan and had no idea this is a 'thing' that happens. It's definitely something they should warn guests about since it appears they do nothing to control this problem (screen doors, changing the type of lighting around the public area, etc). We have not had this problem at any other place we've stayed this week. It's Thursday. It wasn't a problem on Mackinac Island on Tuesday and Wednesday. It wasn't a problem on Thursday in Sault St. Marie. All on the water as well. But it's a problem here and one they don't bother advising their guests on before they check in or at check in.

Worse yet, Hotel.com doesn't stand behind its 'guarantee' either. Their suggestions was to leave and find another place to stay. At quarter 12pm? And we'd be out more money? No thanks. Please do not believe the 5/4 star reviews, listen to those from recent guests. So disappointed. And on top of that, we have no wifi connection (despite the access point being right outside the door) so we can do nothing but grit our teeth and bear it. We ended up having to create a tent from a sheet just so they weren't swarming us all night in this humid, fly...
