We made a mistake booking this hotel. The service was horrible. The amenities are mediocre. There is no quality in this “Quality Inn”. And it gives this brand a bad name and reputation. Denise Horn, the GM is a hard-nosed, blow-hard person who does not care nor valued our business. Very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Did not even greet us when we checked in.||We took a trip to The Great Lakes to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary. This is one of our stops for one night as we planned to see all three of The Great Lakes. It’s a good thing it’s only for one night. I could not stand to stay there for more. I booked this hotel 10 days before and specially requested to be on the top floor close to the elevators because of physical limitations.||Check in is 3 pm. We arrived at 3:15 pm. There were maybe half a dozen cars in the parking lot. Denise gave us probably the worst room in the whole place. The very end room, in the corner with no windows, on the ground floor (Room 122). Total opposite of what I requested! I pleaded with her to honor my request since we arrived early and I know for a fact that hotels don’t assign rooms until you check in. It’s first come, first served. I even explained the reason for our trip but she didn’t care. She refused and gave the excuse that I booked with a third party (Expedia), and they are fully booked for the night, although majority of the guests have not arrived. She could have easily put us on the top floor.||I usually forgive and overlook the flaws of hotel rooms, but since this one started off bad, I’ve noticed everything wrong with the place because she already put us in a bad mood and basically ruined our day. I can tolerate an imperfect room or property, but not staff bad service and attitude. The key cards did not work. Had to walk back uphill for her to properly program them. The room was dark and unclean. It is outdated. The carpet is nasty because when you step outside of the porch (hence, the ground floor), the ground is littered with ducks and seagulls poop to accidentally step on and bring inside. The room was smelly. There was a urine stain on the toilet seat. The HVAC unit is so old, it is hard to control. It looks like it’s from the 60’s and 70’s era. The porch sliding door is not safe. The lock is broke so they put a stick to prop it close and a chain lock. We felt unsafe in this room. The screen is also broken with screws missing.||The hotel is set in the back, downhill from the front office and the breakfast room. So you‘ll have to walk uphill to get breakfast. It’s a good thing it’s not raining or snowing at the time. And if you are disabled or mobility challenged, it would be a difficult endeavor. And if you want to drive up there, there are no places to park except for a couple of spots for checking in. We vacation and travel a lot, staying in many different brands of hotels. Their breakfast is one of the worst we’ve had. Did not have much choices. Very few, not so fresh items. The milk is outdated. The dining room is so small with just a few tables. When guests arrive at the same time to eat, you’ll have to wait for an available table. It was so crowded people are standing up waiting and bumping into each other.||Upon checking out, Denise refused to give me a receipt I asked for. She again used the excuse of booking through a third party. I felt like she was us punishing for booking with a third party instead of an alternative. We paid $170 plus tax; for a total of $190 for one night stay. It was not worth it! This is an old hotel with nothing to offer except for the view of the lake. ||Would not recommend and would not stay...

Read moreIt's a shame this outstanding location is so poorly managed. Calling the property, you're immediately treated like an inconvenience. It seems with the location they have, there's a "take it or leave it" attitude since they are often booked. I had simple questions about the room and property, met with a snarky attitude. I decided to book anyway, and not let the bad attitude of one reservation agent stop me. I had read concerns with cleanliness, bugs and mold in the shower, etc. but again thought I would decide for myself. I voiced those concerns to the reservation agent, her reply was "Oh, ok, I'll go ahead and cancel your reservation." I told her numerous times NOT to cancel my reservation. I asked for my confirmation number, she said she didn't have it, I'd have to wait for an email. Email arrived, the total was much higher than I was given over the phone. I asked about that, her reply was "I didn't charge your card anything!" I told her, yes, I know that. I said to her again, the amount showing on the confirmation email didn't match what she told me over the phone. She replied that she had given me the room rate, not the total with taxes and fees. To which I replied, that makes no sense. She shouldn't have told me $119 when the total would be almost $140. She then asked AGAIN if she should cancel my reservation. Again I said no. A short time after this, someone saying she was the hotel manager called, and she refused to give me her name. She informed me that she had cancelled my reservation because I had "disrespected her property and her employees, and threatened to leave a bad review." None of which actually happened. But her actions are making sure she gets one. I don't see this property staying 2 stars on Maps for long, 1 star rating probably not long away. I'd look elsewhere if I were you. Note - all you have to do is look at the reply from management - no accountability, no responsibility; "It's your fault, you were having a bad day." Classic deflecting behavior from rude/incompetent types. I wasn't having a bad day. Not at least until the rude employee, then the call from Denise. I was sitting on my couch sipping coffee at 9 in the morning. I called corporate customer service, and they told me Denise violated their company policy by cancelling my reservation prior to informing me she was going to do so, and that she would be hearing from both her regional management as well as the hotel ownership. Best to...
