Bed bugs, review censorship. Do not stay at this hotel
Me and my family of three went to this hotel for a vacation. Upon entering the room, we checked the hotel room for bed bugs because the sheets, furniture, and curtains were dirty. Everything was very poorly cleaned - the carpets had stains everywhere, so did the curtains and fabric on furniture. We even saw some suspicious looking small blood stains on couches and chairs which could be indicative of bed bugs. However, we didn’t find anything for about an hour. When I sat down on one of the chairs to get some rest, a bed bug climbed onto my arm. I wasn’t bit, luckily, and neither were any of my family members, but our clothing was most definitely infected. We couldn’t risk storing the clothes in our car as we had to drive six hours to get home and that would risk the car and our house getting infected. So, we had to throw away our best and favorite clothes, the ones we had planned to wear during our vacation. After we alerted the hotel staff about this, we got a better room and money back. But, our vacation was still ruined as we didn’t have proper attire for a vacation. We wanted to leave a detailed review about this on the hotel feedback survey, but our review was censored multiple times, under the excuse that it was “legally sensitive content” because we mentioned bed bugs. We sent an email to get the money back for our ruined clothes, but there has been no response after more than a month. I am very dissatisfied with our stay and would not at all recommend you stay...
Read moreWe stayed for a 2-night weekend getaway at the start of the season (early May 2023). Off-season this hotel is shutdown so we were one of the first guests of the year. The location is great with a spectacular view right up against the shoreline. Service was good and what you would expect for a Holiday Inn Express. The breakfast area seemed more of an afterthought in the design process of the building; it really isn't sized properly for the number of guests and was crowded and not enough seats at peak time. But, the staff did a great job. My biggest complaint though and cause for low rating is that the mattress was rock hard and bordered on medieval torture for a side sleeper like myself. I mean, you go to hotels with the idea of being able to get a night's sleep in the bed. I've stayed at many IHG hotels across the US, Canada, and Mexico and never have I had a mattress this hard. About every 45-60 minutes I would wake up in pain at every joint from shoulder, hip, and knee and need to roll over. If I slept too long on my back, my wife would jab me for snoring too loud. It was so bad, I actually contemplated if the floor might be softer... it's not. I honestly can't bring myself to ever go here again simply because of the horrible mattress and experience of two consecutive nights of lack of sleep. I mean, the cinnamon rolls are good, but not good enough to make up for that bed. I'm still...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed in a double queen room that had a jacuzzi tub and was lakefront.
The view was absolutely gorgeous, however our balcony was right over a big light so enjoying the balcony at night was out of the question due to bugs.
The room was more or less clean, minus a few fish flies and a spider. Being right next to the water I'm not sure if that's something they can 100% control? But I still think it's worth noting.
The beds were comfortable and seemed pretty clean. The tubs were clean as well as the bathroom.
The location was pretty good. We were really close to downtown, and a few minutes walk from one of the ferries. We also were within walking distance of this really tasty Mexican restaurant. There is also a small candy shop right in front of the hotel that we stopped at while waiting for our room to be ready.
Overall, we felt the room was a little pricey for what it looked like, but considering the season and it being on the water, I don't think there's much wiggle room with that.
Also, regarding covid - they did serve a got breakfast. You waited in line and one of the staff members served it to you. They always had gloves and masks on. There were multiple areas that required masks and suggested social distancing, which I appreciate. The staff checking us in was very kind and also wore masks.
I would probably...
