Nightmare Experience: We have attended the annual truck show every year for several years, an experience our 10 year old looks forward to all year long. This year we decided to stay for the weekend. We booked the room in march for the weekend of sept 15th-17th. Friday, Sept 15th we headed up to start our weekend of fun. We received a call to confirm our stay around 5pm, we confirmed and notified we would be a little late for our check in. We were charged the full cost for our stay at that time. Unfortunately, shortly after, our car broke down just outside of Indian River. It was late and dark, so we ended up having to book a room in Indian River Friday night. The next day we were able to fix our vehicle and made it to the truck show. After our late and rocky start to our much anticipated weekend we immediately went to the truck show to enjoy the festivities with plans to go to our room before the parade. After our fill elephant ears and trucks we headed to the hotel to get our room key and freshen up before the truck parade. When we arrived to the hotel we were informed our room had been given away. We explained the circumstances and that we had confirmed our reservations and had already been charged in full for our 2 night stay. The owner told us it was too late and that when we did not arrive Friday he gave our room away. This was frustrating considering the fact we had confirmed and had been charged, but we accepted it and asked for a refund to book a room somewhere else. He informed us he would not be giving us a refund even though he had booked our room we paid for to someone else. That we were "out of luck". I explained that we paid for the room in full and confirmed our stay and that once he charged us for the room it should have been ours to use as we wanted during that time frame even if that meant not using it At all Friday due to our car troubles, it was still paid for. Instead, the owner took the opportunity to make more money and double booked our room leaving us out our money and with nowhere to stay. I was truly shocked at the owner's lack of understanding or apology for ruining a stay we had booked 6 months in advance. Unbelievably poor customer service. Since the owner refused to refund our money we had to contact our bank to cancel the payment who thankfully has much better customer service and understanding of the hospitality business than this...
Read moreWe had checked in to another “pet friendly” location in the area with our two small “redheads”; Cavalier King Charles spaniels, Ruby Sue and Minnie Pearl. (With their crates, of course). It was awful, rude, filthy-dirty and, after the surprise fees we were moving out in less than three hours. *Stephanie was available and welcoming and at 9:00 at night she let us haul it all down the road and move into a cozy little cabin. #35, to be exact. But not before actually taking the time to show us our options and let us choose our accommodations. At 9:00 at night. CLEAN!!! This place is clean. Which is more important than anything else. The floor was clean enough for bare feet. The bedding was all fresh, pillows are full & fluffy, bed is comfy and when I ran a washcloth under the hot water you could actually smell the clean laundry. CLEAN!!! AC, heat, tv, fridge, microwave And a fan…. The shower is not good. I admit. Maybe sprayer hose heads would help. . ??? And I do wish there was a coffee maker in the room. But there’s fresh coffee every morning at 7 AM in the office. Otherwise there’s not one more thing you could need. We were a needy little family for our five days, though. Between puppy accidents (thank god for the linoleum floor) linen swaps and wi-fi password issues, we felt like we were in that office nonstop. But Stephanie was pleasant and accommodating for every little thing. She loves and cares for this place and it shows. We also prefer the mom & pop establishments and supporting local businesses. I think she said this is one of “two” (?) mom & pops left in the area. The difference is noticeable and worth it. She even let us view a larger cabin, to which we’re already planning our trip for next year. Directly across from a fudge shop, beach access and the famous “Java Joe’s” where people make a yearly tradition of the awesome breakfast and shopping the giant teapot collection to pick out their favorite and take it home. (Of course I did) We’re coming back next year and probably many years after. *Thank you again, Stephanie. Next time we’ll have our stuff together!! LoL Paul and Stacey...
Read moreMy mother passed away in May and my wife, I and two cockatiels traveled from Virginia to South Range, Michigan in June to bury her. Finding pet friendly motels is difficult when traveling with two caged birds as most motels will only accept dogs, which is kind of ironic as most birds are much, much quieter than the dogs.
I emailed the Firehouse Inn regarding me situation and Stephanie was very accommodating. Stephanie is a wonderful person, very hospitable, and will go out of her way to ensure you enjoy your stay. I can’t thank her enough.
The Firehouse Inn is conveniently located on the left hand side of the I-75 Business Loop about 2.5 miles from the Mackinac Bridge. Several restaurants and shops are within walking distance of the Inn.
The Firehouse Inn offers ample parking with easy access to every room. The rooms are quiet and comfortable with several amenities: Cable TV, Internet, Mini-Fridge, Microwave, Heating, and Air Conditioning. The rooms have laminate flooring instead of carpeting which for most people these days is a huge plus.
The bathroom is bright, clean, and well stocked, but recently had new light fixtures installed and there were no outlets, which the old lighting fixtures apparently had. However, once again, Stephanie was very accommodating and let us borrow two extensions cords during our first stay, and we furnished our own extension cord during our second stay. I feel the owner will likely install outlets in the bathroom in the near future.
Typically, the most important things for transient travelers is a clean room, a comfortable bed, a quiet environment for sleeping, and a secure and safe area. The Firehouse Inn offers all of this and more at a reasonable price, which is why we stayed there on our way to South Range and our return...
