We booked six rooms months in advance for a special family trip celebrating my parents’ 50th anniversary. One of our key requests was to have all rooms in the same building, especially to accommodate my 92-year-old grandmother. Unfortunately, our reservations were completely mixed up. It took over an hour at check-in to sort things out, and we still ended up spread out across the property. My grandmother was left alone in a room, rather than the suite we were originally promised, or even a connecting room, which was very disappointing.
Other issues included a very overcrowded breakfast area—not nearly large enough for the number of guests. There were long lines, and while the biscuits were good, the eggs and sausage were not. I also reported broken glass on the path near the Huron building twice before it was finally cleaned up a day later, only after I personally asked a staff member who was walking by and had gloves on.
On the positive side, the grounds were lovely, with a nice bonfire area and a big open field where the kids played football. Our room in the Huron building was clean, spacious, and the beds were surprisingly comfortable (though the blankets were quite thin).
The staff was kind enough to let us use the breakfast area for a small anniversary celebration with cake and ice cream, which we really appreciated. They even brought ice for us.
We've been told since we booked through a travel agency, there was nothing they could do for us. This doesn't seem right. If you're not able to accommodate guest requests that were promised, then don't work with agencies. Otherwise, you're setting everyone up (from the hotel's front desk to the travel agency) for failure and disappointing your guests.
This place has potential, but poor communication, disorganized reservations, and lack of follow-through made for a frustrating experience during a very meaningful...
Read moreGreat for the 1 night stay we needed it for. We did the ocean view and it was 100% worth the extra money. We had the last room on the corner by the bushes and it was very private and great view of ocean and privacy. They had S'mores at 8pm by the ground fire area which was nice. Chocolate was old but kids enjoyed and the thought was nice. LOVED having the little go-cart driving around to drop you at office for breakfast since we stayed all the way in the back. The man was very friendly as well. Staff was kind and helpful.
Hot tub outside needs some love. Tiles are falling off and water could bit a tiny bit hotter. I personally wouldn't want to stay by the outdoor pool but for people with smaller kids it's a perfect walkout to the pool. They have an indoor and outdoor pool so it didn't get too crowded. Loved that the indoor pool is open until 11pm and breakfast until 10am was nice. Allowed us to sleep in then eat. Breakfast was your normal hotel breakfast (fruit, bagels, waffles, eggs, juice, etc.). They could use different potatoes but all other stuff was good. Danishes were really good and loved the fresh tea and coffee. The food area was clean with a nice patio area and enough space to get a table.
Room was spacious and clean (Booked 2 queen bed room with ocean view. Feels almost like an appartment layout. It got the job done for our stay! Loved being able to wake up and walk the lake, collect rocks and just relax. The room did have an odd smell when we first got there but opened windows and it went away. Prices on vending machines were a bit high but still got snacks!
Mackinac island pro tip...Take the ferry from St. Ignace and don't go back over the bridge. We went back over the bridge and took us 30mins+ to find parking and then stood in line 45min+. The rides from st. Ignace were all CLEAR to use. Would of saved us about an hour if we just left...
Read moreHonestly one of the worst experiences. Pros: it was a great location and the shuttle was great. S’mores were good in the evening. We didn’t use the pool but it looked nice.
Cons: the staff was just really unfriendly and dismissive. When we arrived they seemed annoyed by any question. I would have brushed it off but then we woke up our first morning at 6:45 to water pouring out of the light in the ceiling of the bathroom. We called staff and they said they’d send maintenance. I asked how we were supposed to go to the bathroom with mystery water pouring out of the ceiling and they just repeated maintenance was would be there when they could. 30 min later they arrived and the maintenance guy was utterly freaked out by the scene. We went up foe breakfast which was good and when we went to talk to the staff they literally seemed exasperated and said they called maintenance. I finally showed him the video and he basically said “oh.” Management arrived with maintenance and they confirmed the issue was not small and they did move our room. We got our stuff packed up and the new room was fine. But we ended up on Mackinac island an hour later than we wanted and kind of in a tizzy after all of that. It was so bizarre they just did not seem to believe us until I showed them the video and other staff saw the problem. I wanted some sort of compensation for the time and stress but I didn’t feel like wasting more time on waiting around and dealing with rude staff. I would not come back here purely for the staff. The rest was...
